Barracuda was in quite a rush, sprinting over the greenish gray dunes of her wasteland home. Sand shifted under her feet with every step, threatening to throw off her balance. It posed no real problem to a light-footed sky kid, though. She continued on the ground until she reached the swarm of rock-like crabs. Those violent crustaceans stood between her and the looming fortress ahead. Rather than risk a thrashing by the creatures, she took to the air. One of the 11 glowing stars on her long, ribbon-like scarf turned gray as she launched forward, arms spread out to better control her flight. Light was more scarce than ever now, so she couldn't afford to fly carelessly with no one around to recharge her. Avoiding crabs was worth it though. The little demons sometimes tackled her with frightening accuracy, no matter how careful she tried to be. Once she was safely past the swarm, she touched land again, continuing her sprint into the dark fortress. ------- ((And there we go~ I don't know if I described it well enough, but she just passed the crab fields and is about to meet the first krill))

(I can't get a pic of Cantrius rn, so for now I'll do a text description. will probably put an outfit request on the official Sky Discord later)

For once, Cantrius had though of leaving the Graveyard. Ever since his friend, a Wasteland guide named Sheria, had been hit by a dark dragon and turned into one, he hadn't been able to make himself leave. Several months had passed, several months that he'd been living in a tent, next to a fire where the Pleading Parent used to sit.

Cantrius was slightly taller than the tallest Skykids, his beige shirt and black cargo pants and boots were reminiscent of the outfit the Jellyfish Whisperer wore, while the tassels on the end of his gold-colored cape reached just below his knees. A red guitar, worn but cared for, was slung across his back. His long hair was swept to one side of his head, and his eyes shone out from behind a cracked, black mask. A bandage that might've once been white was wrapped around his right forearm.

He knew the paths of the dark dragons by heart, and was easily able to avoid them. Soon he was making his way up the tall hill that led up to the dark fortress.

Within the dark fortress, two dark dragons circled about instead of one, but otherwise there wasn't much change to it. On the one safe platform, a small flame within a lantern on the ground flickered.

'Yay, my favorite part,' Barracuda thought sarcastically. She hid behind a wide column while 2 dark dragons scoured the small space. Ever since the 2nd one had moved in, that part of her passage home had become the most challenging. She had once been spotted behind a chunk of the broken roof, and when she ran to the other side of it; surprise! There was a dragon on both sides!

If her brother hadn't snatched her up in time, who knows what would have happened. There had been rumors of her kind getting turned into dragons after being attacked. How horrific was that? She didn't want to become a monster and hurt her siblings. No way.

With an indignant huff toward the oblivious dragons, she readied herself to move. 'Here we go. Wait for an opening, aaaannd....... Run!' She darted out of hiding and made for the next shelter: 2 stone slabs that rested against each other and left a perfectly-sized gap underneath. Once inside, Barracuda pressed herself against the inner wall.

And not a moment too soon, as blue light flooded the cramped space, then faded altogether. A dragon had gone by. Now she needed to confirm the position of the other. After a cautious peek, she found its black form and waited for the right time to climb the stairs that led up to a safely covered lantern.

It was going well so far, but she knew she couldn't relax yet. When the chance came, she sped out again. She was so focused on the soft tap tap tap as she ran up the stairs, that she nearly jumped out of her skin when a growl pierced the silence. Her startled reaction messed up her footing, and she slipped back down a few steps. Worst of all...

Red. Everything around her was red.

The sh sh sh of his steps on the sand transitioned to the quiet tap tap tap of his feet hitting stone. It'd been a long time since he'd heard that, but Cantrius didn't really pay attention to that.

He heard someone else.

He heard the dragon's roar.

He saw its arched form, and the red light that was locked onto another Skykid.

He broke into a run, his long strides catching up to the fallen Skykid easily. He grabbed her and took off into flight, holding her tight against his chest as he flew away from the dark dragon, towards the slope leading to the Graveyard. He knew what to do, and knew how to do it.

He'd dodged the strike of a dark dragon many times before, after all.

(I thought maybe you'd want to rp the dark dragon striking)

In her helpless state, Barracuda made no attempt to hide. She squeezed her eyes shut and covered her head, hoping the dragon would at least throw her far enough to lose sight of her, even if she'd be extinguished afterward.

Tension kept building in her limbs until the growl paused. Then a roar broke out, right behind her.

...Behind?

She cracked an eye open, expecting to see a glimpse of the dragon's barbed horns up close before the collision. Instead, she saw the fabric of someone else's shirt, and fluttering golden tassels in her peripherals.

Someone had saved her! She hadn't even registered the feeling of being picked up. That means the dragon was...

"WAAH!" she yelped as she spotted the beast still charging at her. It was dangerously close, and the gap shrank each second.

((Wasn't sure if he had already dodged it, or was preparing to. :V ))

"Hang on!" he yelled over the dragon's roar. Though, really, the Skykid he'd saved couldn't do much else. The most he could do to prepare her for this was tighten his grip on her, his arms wrapped around her body to make himself as aerodynamic as possible. It made his bandaged forearm hurt, sure, but he ignored the pain.

He anticipated the moment, then suddenly swerved to the side with a tight barrel roll, avoiding the dark dragon's strike. He kept flying until he was within a side room of the fortress, safe from the gaze of the dragons.

Finally, his feet touched the ground, and he set Barracuda down, letting go of her and stepping back to give her some space.
"Are you alright?" he asked.

Barracuda replied with wobbling legs, "Psh, yeah I'm fine. I live for danger. Ahaha... ha..." Finally her knees gave in and she crumpled onto the floor with a loud groan of relief. "But I guess dying for danger isn't so fun."

She eyed the stranger, taking in his appearance, first noting that he was taaaall. When she first saw the cape, she thought it was one of her brothers coming to save her. Again. This time, however, it was a complete stranger. What had she been told about those...?

"Oh yeah!" Barracuda jumped into a fighting stance. "Thanks for saving me. Now I'll be on my way before you can achieve your interior motive." That's what Pike had said about strangers, right? Something about using each other to survive. She was 97% sure.
