Skins and Accents

It varies on a case by case basis. Obvious references (logos/symbols, exact costumes, etc etc) won't be allowed but you can sometimes get away with more subtle references.

When I make these fandom skins, I'll change it a bit so it's still a reference, but not straight up ripping things off. For example, in this skin, which is based off an outfit from Fire Emblem 3 Houses, I changed the banner from a Lion to a Tundra, and altered the patterning and embellishment on the cape. It's recognizable, but definitely different.

Same goes for this skin, where it's an obvious reference to the surprised Pikachu meme, but I changed it to a blushing imperial.


I know there is also a case somewhere of someone who used copyrighted material in a skin, but they actually got expressed permission from the owner of the content (which is cool!). Can't remember which skin or game that was, but I remember the story. :)

If something is obviously ripped though, it might be something from a smaller fandom that the mods don't recognize. The mods are humans, and they can't possibly know about every single fandom out there. If they do realize that a skin was let through the filter though, that skin will be later removed from the site. Anyone who had copies of that skin will receive glitched, blank skins, and the original artist will have the option to replace that skin with something else I believe. There are a couple of these glitched skins floating around out there, I used to have a copy.

If you ever plan on taking orders on a fandom grey-area skin that you're not sure will go through, I'd definitely suggest submitting some test copies first! Just to make sure that the mods are ok with what you're submitting, so you know it'll go through and you won't be able to let buyers down. :D

I love putting subtle references in a lot of my work, and testing the line of the skin rules is my unfortunate guilty pleasure haha

And remember if a skin is ever rejected, you can fully refund your blueprints (as long as you bought them from the custom skins page and not another user) by sending them to one of the skin mods! So don't be afraid to test things out. :D
