TOPIC | LF M Tundra accent customs [4/28 update]
1 2 3 4 5 6
Please note: I can not pay in USD. I can pay only in gems/treasure/retired items/my UMA collection. If no USD is a dealbreaker, sorry, but I'm not the commissioner for you. Now with that out of the way...

I have a lot of male tundras, but not enough artists make accents for them. I get that; it's not as popular of a breed, and the market is smaller and more niche. But I hope to alleviate that with customs. The problem is, usually with a custom, you got to an artist and say "Okay, I want the cosmos on this dragon's wings with a full moon dawning in the background, and then deck him out with 32048 pieces of gold jewelry. Like seriously, bedazzle the heck outta him."

But I don't have specific ideas like that. I know what I like, but I don't know what I want.

That's where this thread comes in. I'm looking to commission custom accents, as well as pay for ideas for custom accents even if the idea originators don't have the familiarity or confidence to make the accent itself.

My plan is for three stages of each commission, and each commission can stop at any stage at either my or the seller's behest. e.g. if you think up a great idea but don't have the skills for the mock-up, you can just sell me the idea and I'll pay someone else who can do the mock-up. If you can do the mock-up but not the accent, I'll commission another artist. Or on my end, if I'm not 100% feeling the result of a stage, I may cancel the commission at that stage. You will receive payment for all work completed, and I will be free to use the provided idea(s) or mock-up(s) to hire further continuation if I wish. These aren't exclusive rights -- you're also free to do what you wish with them. It's just basically enabling me to use the ideas/work I have already paid for. With the actual accent commission stage it's more complicated, so we'd have to work something out individually at that point. ><

The three stages:

Step 1: The Sales Pitch.
You link one of my provided dragons I'm looking for accents for, and you give a description of what you have in mind.
Good: I think he'd look good with some vines running up and down his legs and arms. On the bottoms of his wing membranes, I'd create a forest that went to the top of them. Since you mentioned the horn colour, I'd also use his secondary colour to recolour his horns to stick out less.
Bad: idk, some trees or something. lots of green. vines???

If I like the pitch, I'll pay you for it. I haven't figured out a fee structure quite yet, but I'm thinking in the ballpark of 50g. It's text, after all. You do not have to get any confirmation to pitch an idea, but I reserve all rights not to pay for an idea if I'm not convinced on it. Not every idea in the thread will be purchased.

Step 2: The Mock-up
If you feel comfortable and think you have the artistic skill required, you may use your idea (or if someone else has sold me an idea, you can ask about that) to create a mock-up of the accent in question. This is a rough image (how rough depends on you, but it should be fairly indicative of how a final product would look -- just rougher. e.g. the areas of colour should be the same and roughly the same shapes, but doesn't necessarily need to be shaded/cleaned/etc.)

I don't have a set price for mock-ups, so work with me on what you'd be looking to charge. Please do NOT just post a finished mock-up with PWYW in the thread; this makes me extremely uncomfortable and I strongly prefer to work out price ahead of time. If the price needs to be adjusted, I'm pretty easy to work with, but I really really really strongly request that mock-ups not be surprise PWYWs. Thank you.

Step 3: The Accent
Once I have a mock-up, whether that's yours or someone else's that they've sold me, it's time for the actual accent. This stage is pretty self-explanatory. As a note for purchased mock-ups, I understand that every artist is different and that I'm asking basically the equivalent of working off someone else's sketch and that's nearly impossible to get accurate to the mock-up. That's fine -- it's a loose mock-up. I'm not expecting exact replication. Work with me on any concerns/questions.

Again, no specific price in mind. You (as the artist) can choose whether you'd prefer for me to provide an accent (or skin if it's a skincent due to coverage) blueprint + fee in gems for a printing for me specifically, or whether you'd prefer to do a run in your existing (if you have one) accent shop/auction house. If that's the case, you're more than welcome to, but I do request a guaranteed reserve slot on the list. :P (I will also pay less for this, since it's assumed you're making outside profit on it as well. Not trying to devalue this or anything, and you're very much encouraged to do this option if you'd like. Again, work with me on questions/concerns.)

tl;dr sell me accent ideas, make a mock-up, and then make an accent. Or if you can do some of these but not others, tell me what you can/can't do. Work with me, I promise I don't bite and I'm really easy to work with.

Accents and themes I really like. General Examples I'm pretty basic, honestly. I love flowers, galaxy patterns, abstract swirls, jewelry, etc. I do NOT like gore, plague-themes, bones, and extra eyes. I have mixed (usually negative) feelings about extra wings/body parts, and I usually prefer to avoid "extra object" items in accents -- e.g. accents where a dragon has a faux apparel piece like a bag they're holding or where a dragon has a weapon placed strategically via accent. Nothing against the things I don't like, I just personally don't like them. If your tastes aren't mine, I mean no offense -- I'm just listing what I like and don't like since I'm specifically looking for custom accents/ideas. Some examples of accents I really like in general themes: [skin=31239][skin=9198][skin=6923][skin=6070][skin=21258] I love stars, galaxies, and cosmic themes. I don't know how much more can be said here. lol [skin=31411][skin=14634][skin=7175][skin=29126] Gilding and jewelry is great. Other colours of metal besides gold works -- I just happened to mostly have gold examples in my lair to pull from. [skin=11777][skin=19116][skin=19818][skin=20796][skin=21202][skin=22100] Silks/draperies are always fantastic. [skin=31460][skin=11361][skin=30377] Flowers are great. I love flowers. [skin=2552][skin=4209][skin=4145][skin=12583][skin=14623] In general, patterns and pretty colours are great. [skin=30024] Sunsets/skyscapes are great. Harder to pull off on a tundra than these guardian examples, but I'm open to ideas. :P [s]yes, I only had one example in my lair specifically.[/s] [skin=4032] This is the only example I know of, but I love well-done henna designs on the wing membrane specifically. I wouldn't really want henna on the fur on a Tundra. Specific Examples These are some examples of tundra-specific accents where I feel they're perfectly suited for what I was looking for, and my rationale on why. The colour distribution on this boy was already pretty good, so I was mostly just looking for some enhancement. MAN, this accent delivers. It has nearly the exact same shades (impressive, considering it's a non-custom accent that wasn't designed for this dragon), adds some extra pink distribution into the wings, and in general adds some nice sparkle that I am a SUCKER for. Tiny note, but I'm also a big fan of how it darkens the tail to match the legs better with artificial shading. This accent existed before in other colours, but I had a custom recolour made for this dragon specifically. All the primary sections have teal roses, while the secondary sections have red ones. On top of that, all the jewelry garlands were recoloured to match the dragon. It's a perfect fit, and I absolutely love it. It fixes ALL of the colour distribution woes I'd had before. It's kind of cheating to use this dragon as an example, since I picked some of the genes around using this skincent, but I'm still including it. The colours match beautifully, and while normally I'm not a fan of hiding the entire body or wings, in this particular case it works well and enabled me to use Giraffe, which is a gene I don't normally like. (I used it specifically for the visible underbelly shade.) The patterns are beautiful on this accent, and the shading is just AMAZING at creating that 'magical' feel to it.

Current Projects This post contains a list of dragons I'm currently looking to commissions custom accents for, and what I'm looking for if I'm looking for anything specific. Generally speaking, as mentioned above, I'm very heavily much a fan of colour distribution. If the colour distribution is off on a dragon, I'm almost always going to want to fix that with an accent. Apart from that, I usually don't have anything specific in mind, so feel free to suggest anything you have in mind. Also, worth mentioning -- when I talk about specific areas of colour distribution, I'm usually looking for an accent that does that and covers more area. Those are just specific areas I'd want addressed if possible. Also, when I say colour distribution, that can really be just about anything. Flowers, jewelry, cosmic stardust, gradients, whatever. I don't just mean splotches of colour. :P TOP PRIORITY! (Dressed preview of this dragon.) Ideally I'd like something that pulls the warm tones of the candles/jewelry into a few other subtle places of the dragon -- the legs in particular. Maybe also add a few VERY subtle small red gem things (to match the red gem on the belt-thing.) Aside from that, something to fancy-up the outer wing slightly would be good, as well as something to distribute dark blue into the wing-fur (both on the top/outside and the inner/limb bits). Something with hints of ice to match the primal would be very nice as well. Maybe distribute the red into the body section a bit better? This boy is already using an accent technically, but I'm not 100% sold on it. Overall his colour distribution is solid even without an accent, but if someone has really good ideas, I'm very much open to them. Distributing some of the bright blue-cyan to the wings and some bright colours in general to the tail fluff would be nice. Adding some colour gradient onto the horns would also be quite nice, since they feel so flat compared to the rest of him. No specifications. I like his colour distribution, so probably either some minimal pattern work or minimal jewelry or something. As you may notice, this dragon's Secondary is Basic. I never found a secondary gene I REALLY liked on him, even though I love his primary and tert, and I love phthalo as a colour. So on this one, I want you to pick a secondary gene and work with it with the accent. Sell me on it. :P I almost like the unbalanced distribution here. Maybe toss some turquoise on the nails or something, idk. Probably not a lot of colour rebalancing on this, but hey, sell me on an idea. :O Even out the distribution on the Pistachio section of the mane, maybe a slight retouching to the tail. His wings are TOO PLAIN. Please fix this. If you want to slightly darken the green of the skink on the lower half of the body, that would also be welcome. (maybe even just a careful opacity layer for this part, honestly.) No specifications. Some patterning to make that underbelly a little less bright and boring would be great. Either that, or maybe some patterning on the wings to bring the brighter white colour elsewhere. The usual problem of boring, mono-colour facefluff (the dark green section of the mane) applies to this poor boy as well, and he could use some help with that. Maybe snazz up the horns a bit too? Something pattern-y like maybe henna-design-ish would be AMAZING. I'm also entirely open to things other than what's specified here, though. Shoot me your ideas! In Progress The outer wing segment feels too plain to me, so I'd like something to spice that up a bit. His dark red mane and tail fluff also need some colour distribution work. @/VolcanicThunder With this dragon, I'm especially looking to get some of the purples from the rest of him distributed into the cream-coloured section of his main. That plain cream is just a little too plain for me. Same with the tail fluff. I would specifically like for the Pinstripe pattern on the wingtop to be visible, as well as the base Noxtide pattern on the bottom of the wings, so nothing too obscuring in either of those areas. @/willowlight7

The outer wing segment feels too plain to me, so I'd like something to spice that up a bit. His dark red mane and tail fluff also need some colour distribution work.

With this dragon, I'm especially looking to get some of the purples from the rest of him distributed into the cream-coloured section of his main. That plain cream is just a little too plain for me. Same with the tail fluff. I would specifically like for the Pinstripe pattern on the wingtop to be visible, as well as the base Noxtide pattern on the bottom of the wings, so nothing too obscuring in either of those areas.

@Alestrius maybe for this guy: i could do an accent with flowers in the mane and tail, maybe some hanging off the wings? sort of like the flower set, but much more varied in the type of flowers/colors. they'd be the purplish color, as well as tying in the slightly more reddish color of the noxtide. i could try to do banners but i am not confident in my ability to shade fabric, honestly

@willowlight7 Sounds good to me! I'll send 50g your way now for the base idea, and let me know how much you'd be looking at for a mock-up? :o
