Please note: I can not pay in USD. I can pay only in gems/treasure/retired items/my UMA collection. If no USD is a dealbreaker, sorry, but I'm not the commissioner for you. Now with that out of the way...
I have a lot of male tundras, but not enough artists make accents for them. I get that; it's not as popular of a breed, and the market is smaller and more niche. But I hope to alleviate that with customs. The problem is, usually with a custom, you got to an artist and say "Okay, I want the cosmos on this dragon's wings with a full moon dawning in the background, and then deck him out with 32048 pieces of gold jewelry. Like seriously, bedazzle the heck outta him."
But I don't have specific ideas like that. I know what I like, but I don't know what I want.
That's where this thread comes in. I'm looking to commission custom accents, as well as pay for ideas for custom accents even if the idea originators don't have the familiarity or confidence to make the accent itself.
My plan is for three stages of each commission, and each commission can stop at any stage at either my or the seller's behest. e.g. if you think up a great idea but don't have the skills for the mock-up, you can just sell me the idea and I'll pay someone else who can do the mock-up. If you can do the mock-up but not the accent, I'll commission another artist. Or on my end, if I'm not 100% feeling the result of a stage, I may cancel the commission at that stage. You will receive payment for all work completed, and I will be free to use the provided idea(s) or mock-up(s) to hire further continuation if I wish. These aren't exclusive rights -- you're also free to do what you wish with them. It's just basically enabling me to use the ideas/work I have already paid for. With the actual accent commission stage it's more complicated, so we'd have to work something out individually at that point. ><
The three stages:
Step 1: The Sales Pitch.
You link one of my provided dragons I'm looking for accents for, and you give a description of what you have in mind.
Good: I think he'd look good with some vines running up and down his legs and arms. On the bottoms of his wing membranes, I'd create a forest that went to the top of them. Since you mentioned the horn colour, I'd also use his secondary colour to recolour his horns to stick out less.
Bad: idk, some trees or something. lots of green. vines???
If I like the pitch, I'll pay you for it. I haven't figured out a fee structure quite yet, but I'm thinking in the ballpark of 50g. It's text, after all. You do not have to get any confirmation to pitch an idea, but I reserve all rights not to pay for an idea if I'm not convinced on it. Not every idea in the thread will be purchased.
Step 2: The Mock-up
If you feel comfortable and think you have the artistic skill required, you may use your idea (or if someone else has sold me an idea, you can ask about that) to create a mock-up of the accent in question. This is a rough image (how rough depends on you, but it should be fairly indicative of how a final product would look -- just rougher. e.g. the areas of colour should be the same and roughly the same shapes, but doesn't necessarily need to be shaded/cleaned/etc.)
I don't have a set price for mock-ups, so work with me on what you'd be looking to charge. Please do NOT just post a finished mock-up with PWYW in the thread; this makes me extremely uncomfortable and I strongly prefer to work out price ahead of time. If the price needs to be adjusted, I'm pretty easy to work with, but I really really really strongly request that mock-ups not be surprise PWYWs. Thank you.
Step 3: The Accent
Once I have a mock-up, whether that's yours or someone else's that they've sold me, it's time for the actual accent. This stage is pretty self-explanatory. As a note for purchased mock-ups, I understand that every artist is different and that I'm asking basically the equivalent of working off someone else's sketch and that's nearly impossible to get accurate to the mock-up. That's fine -- it's a loose mock-up. I'm not expecting exact replication. Work with me on any concerns/questions.
Again, no specific price in mind. You (as the artist) can choose whether you'd prefer for me to provide an accent (or skin if it's a skincent due to coverage) blueprint + fee in gems for a printing for me specifically, or whether you'd prefer to do a run in your existing (if you have one) accent shop/auction house. If that's the case, you're more than welcome to, but I do request a guaranteed reserve slot on the list. :P (I will also pay less for this, since it's assumed you're making outside profit on it as well. Not trying to devalue this or anything, and you're very much encouraged to do this option if you'd like. Again, work with me on questions/concerns.)
tl;dr sell me accent ideas, make a mock-up, and then make an accent. Or if you can do some of these but not others, tell me what you can/can't do. Work with me, I promise I don't bite and I'm really easy to work with.
