Disclaimer: I looked through the 5 most recent pages of this forum and I didn't see any suggestions like this, so if someone has already posted something like this, my apologies!
So.
Right now, when I go on the AH and am shopping for a dragon, I have the option to choose a single parameter (ie: "Primary gene: iridescent") or to leave it blank (ie: "Primary gene: All").
My suggestion is that instead of a drop-down menu, wherein each menu allows the choice of a single option... Tickyboxes.
Here's an example of that in action:
My clan is built on a theme of characters from one of my favorite book series, so when I go to buy dragons, I often have some very specific parameters in mind -- for example, I am in the market for a dragon for the god Gandolo. I want the dragon to be a Skydancer or an Imperial; male; with either ripple, bar, or iridescent; with either shimmer, current, or seraph; with gembond; primary color in the red range; secondary color in the red range; tertiary color in the yellow range; element is irrelevant.
To find this dragon on the AH, I have to do dozens of searches, checking every possible combination and permutation of these search parameters, since I can only search for one from each category at a time:
First search: Skydancer, iri, shim, gembond
Second search: Imperial, iri, shim, gembond
Third search: Skydancer, ripple, shim, gembond
and so on and so on, ad infinitum. If I make the search too specific ("skydancer, iri, shim, gembond, crimson, red, gold"), then I run the risk of turning up nothing and wasting a lot of time. If I don't make it specific enough ("skydancer, iri, shim, gembond"), then I have to comb through pages and pages of dragons and... waste a lot of time.
It'd be so much easier (and it would cut down on site bandwith, I believe!) to set up the AH search parameters with tickyboxes, so that I can simply select:
Breed: Skydancer, Imperial
Gender: Male
Primary Gene: Iri, Ripple, Bar
Secondary: Shim, Current, Daub
and so on. Then it would show me ALL the potential dragons of ALL possible combinations, in one place, with one search, and everyone goes home happy having spent way more of their treasure than they had originally planned.
Thank you and good night!
EDIT: (added from a later post of mine on this thread) I've noticed a lot of people wanting color-range searches, but you know that the tickyboxes would pretty much eliminate the need for a separate color-range search, yes?
Cause then instead of selecting red range, you'd just select red, maroon, crimson, tomato, rust, blood, carmine. The problem with having a separate search parameter for ranges is that some of the colors are quite subjective: Is shadow in the black range or the purple range? Is aqua in the blue range or the green range? Is rust in the red range or the brown range?
Also, what if you hate half of the red range? I would advise a famous programmer's proverb: KISS (Keep It Simple, Silly). ;)
