What if, when you were in the coli, there was a (very) small chance you could end up facing a randomly generated dragon, and if you won, it would come home with you? That's what this idea is about.
Details:
  • The dragon would be slightly tougher than the typical enemies for the area, and may or may not be accompanied by an area typical enemy (so, functioning like the yeti in that respect)
  • After you won, a message would cover the coli screen: "The dragon is impressed by your clan's skill in battle and would like to join them. Accept (him/her) into your lair?"
  • If you accepted, it would show up in your lair. Like a regular gen 1, it would show the day you got it as its hatchday, but unlike a regular gen 1 it would already be leveled and have battlestones, according to its breed and the venue you got it from.
  • Breed, colors, and flight could either be completely randomly generated, or thematically weighted according to location (such as white-forest ice or nature tundras being more likely in the boreal wood, jade-magenta wind or arcane faes being more likely in the bamboo falls, etc.).
  • They could either all be ungened plentifuls, like standard gen 1s, or there could be a slight chance, increasing with the difficulty of the venue, of them having treasure marketplace genes/breeds. It could be interesting to give them genes/breeds not obtainable from the marketplace, but since people like to gene up their dragons, I'd suspect these would also need to drop as scrolls from the coli occasionally, which would be a whole 'nother can of worms
  • Thoughts, anyone? If you like it, what aspects do you like best, and if you don't, is there a change that would make it more acceptable to you? Any additional ideas?

I think this is a pretty good idea, but i think breeds should be limited to tundras, faes, guardians and mirrors. Also, i don't think there should be genes/battlestones/ battle levels on the dragons though.

Good idea though, support.

Personally I don't think we need another source of gen ones.. You can already get gen ones from the coliseum in the form of dropped eggs. Its rare but they do drop

What if a user has a full lair and along comes a random dragon that s/he can't take in no matter how much s/he wants to? At least with the egg drops (as said above), users can hold onto them until they have room their their lairs to hatch said eggs.

If writers are supposed to "show not tell," why are we called "storytellers" and not "storyshow-ers"?
It's a cool idea, but personally I don't see it as being that necessary. I especially don't like the idea of them already having battle stones (unless they were solely the generic Scratch/Meditate + Shred/Contuse). Having dragons as general NPCs in the coli could be neat, but ehhh...

I quite like this idea. It should be a really rare occurrence, but I think it could go down well. I wouldn't want to find one with really nice colours and not have room in my lair. Maybe there should be some kind time limit for how long you have to say you want to keep it, or let it go, which could maybe be incorporated into the alerts section. That way you have time to either expand your lair or make a decision of selling/exalting one of your current dragons to make room. I think if there is a way around this, I support the overall idea. E: This could also be good for roleplaying, it could give a good base for a dragon's profile.

I was a little unsure about the battlestones/leveling point, but I think it would be upsetting for a user to, say, fight a dragon in the harpy's roost that's tough as any of the enemies there, then have it be level 1 when they have it in their lair. From that perspective and from a lore perspective, it makes more sense for it to at least be leveled with stat points assigned. Also, keep in mind "battlestones" doesn't necessarily mean fully outfitted with ambushes and berserkers. It could just mean it has a couple of acuity stones and an elemental bolt.

@DragonSage
I tried to make this idea a little different from eggs. People love gen 1s, especially for roleplay and storybuilding, and I think it would help build and maintain interest in the site to introduce new ways to get them that don't function exactly the same way as eggs.

My original thought on this is that it would encourage people to leave a slot or two open in their lair, but perhaps that isn't the best way to go about it? Maybe there could be an additional section in the coliseum where you could keep a dragon in reserve until you had room for it. To keep people from abusing it, it could only hold one dragon at a time, so either they'd have to make room in a timely manner or, if they encountered another dragon (not, if the rarity is managed well, likely, but still possible), then they would have to choose between them.

I think the basic idea of this is pretty neat. I do share some of the other concerns mentioned here but I like the concept.

Seems like a neat idea! However, I think they should be completely ungened Plentifuls that don't carry any Battle Stones, that they wouldn't start with like Scratch/Shred or Meditate/Contuse, with them.

I love me some Gen. 1s, so the basic concept definitely has my support! :D
