This is to partially address the 'unretire sprites/stuff' thread with a new approach. While it is not an ideal approach, it attempts to make a middle ground [While spooning in some other game features]. Ultimately, I would hope this would be a temporary solution on the road to a better permanent one. Melnoth has taken a pause from terrorizing the high seas to sell her treasures to the land dwellers. Her ship comes into port only once a month. But for a full week or until all her wares are gone and she has a hefty stack of treasure and gems. Melnoth is very interested in getting the very best deal possible, so she opens items up for auction. Usually 8+ items at a time with varying auction times. These items can be anything from rare items from the marketplace [in bulk], or retired [non KS] apparel and familiars. Additionally, her travels to far off lands have led her to acquire new items that cannot be found anywhere else; such as Baldwin recipes, pirate duds, exotic flowers, spices, and even a pile of gold for your dragon to lay in to their hearts content! Additionally, Melnoth sometimes needs a few errands done. Produce the object she desires (usually an amount of supplies, such as 25 honeycrisp apples to ward off scurvy), and she will award you with a Doubloon. These doubloons can not be traded to other players, and can be used to shorten an auction time in your favor, or purchase some of her exclusive goods from exotic locals. Doubloons behave like holiday currency. Any player is able to bid, and the starting bid is randomly generated, and can appear as either gems or treasure. Once you bid, that amount in your hoard is frozen until you win the bid or someone outbids you. Whatever player has the highest bid by the time the timer runs out wins the item. There is a randomized snipe buffer on auctions, that will randomly freeze it on the last players bid anywhere from an hour to 30 minutes before the auction expires. Sometimes she will even recruit dragons with a particular trait for her crew! This can also earn you doubloons. She looks for a new type of crew each day. This includes dragons of a certain level, or have a certain ability stone, stat, breed, genes, gender, size and color. They will set sail on long adventures, and will never be able to return to the life of a land lubber again. She is ALWAYS interested in treasure maps. Sometimes lucky gathering dragons can encounter lost maps [or parts of them you have to stick together]. She will offer a reward for this as well! After the week is up, she packs up, takes her gold and gems she earned and sails off again for more booty- where these currencies are never seen again. Features of this proposal: - One week a month (second week of the month?) Melnoth appears - Melnoth has 'quests' that any player can complete each hour to gather her supplies for her ship What she needs changes each hour. Players earn a special currency for completing these quests- Doubloons - Doubloons are used for her special doubloon shop for exclusive exotic items she gained overseas. These items are random every month but can repeat. - Melnoth's Black Market Auction House is open during this week she is present. - The BMAH has random rare items, with the potential to include retired or gem familiars and apparel [KS items not included] - When an auction ends, another random item will pop up in its place. Auctions can range from being 30 minutes long to the entire week. - all auctions end an hour before the end of the week, so she can begin packing up early. - Currency used on her auctions is gone for good and is pulled out of the economy. - She will accept both young dragons and adults on her ship for adventure. Her requirements for hire change each day. These dragons go to far off lands and never return except now and then when she returns to port. However, they no-longer can return to your lair. Offering a dragon this way will earn you extra Doubloons. - Treasure map fragments [or rarely, intact treasure maps] that can be redeemed for doubloons. Benefits of this event/addition: - removes currency from the economy - Adds an unofficial/partial exalt shop - provides another incentive to battle for dom without it being given to a particular flight [presumably] - Allows for users to acquire retired familiars, apparel, etc while introducing them into the system in a controlled and limited way. [Kickstarter items not included] [downtime items ARE included] - New holiday - Pirates - Pirates are always a good idea - Lets all be pirates Be sure to check out my other suggestion threads: Make the Fairgrounds an actual faire Baldwin Dyes Edit: Added an addition by another user!
@Autopilot Here's my addition to this idea (which I originally posted in another thread): Ryth's Retired Requisition A figure hooded in black perches on a similarly-colored caravan wagon, surveying the crowds who came to the Trading Post. Scrutinizing the crowd, she eventually settles on a Coatl female leaving Baldwin's brewery and heading for Pinkerton's sky-high mound of junk. She slithers like a serpent past knots of Spirals and troops of Tundras until she finds her victim target. The Coatl is startled, to say the least, as she clumsily drops the books in her claws. Sheepishly, she apologizes for her reaction and starts to pick up her belongings. Watching her every move, the strange cloaked figure spots a small slip of parchment hanging out of one of her books-- her records of her clan's hoarded treasure, with a big goal circled in red ink at the end: Arcane Sprite. She's found the perfect customer. "Say..." She leans in and whispers, "You want an Arcane Sprite, right?" Dumbfounded, the Coatl only manages a slight nod. The figure chuckles slightly at her expression, then says, "Follow me, then." Leading her potential customer to her cart, the cloaked dragon glances around to make sure no one is watching, then slides down her hood. The Coatl blinks in surprise at the young (compared to most of the shopkeepers in the Trading Post) Nocturne female, who smirks a little and begins to speak once more. "I am Ryth, and this is my Retired Requisition. Here, you can find extremely rare items not found anywhere else in Sornieth. You can buy these items with various runestones, which you can gather in various areas or earn through completing requests for me. It's a bit like a scavenger hunt, actually-- I ask for certain items, you get them for me, and I'll give you a random runestone from my collection. You think you can do that?" "Yes, of course!" The Coatl says. "I'll go home and get some items right away!" As she scurries off, Ryth turns to a statue of a Shadow Sprite, carved from ebony. If inspected closely, it looks like the Sprite has a startled expression. "Rune, my precious daughter..." Ryth says tenderly, wrapping her claws around the statue and holding it against her chest. "I'll save you soon..." ~*~ Ryth's backstory: Ryth is a devoted follower of the Shadowbinder who is never seen without her trademark cloak. Her only daughter, Rune, decided to leave her clan to serve the Shadowbinder, and sent a Shadow Sprite to keep her mother company. Ryth was heartbroken after her daughter left, so she named the Sprite after her. Rune the Sprite became the light of Ryth's life, and she delighted in collecting the runestones of the different flights. However, the Shade-worshipping coven that made up the majority of her clan detested the Sprite, and transformed her into an ebony statue. Outraged, Ryth left her home clan behind, absconding in the middle of the night with most of their valuable items. Now she trades these items away for runestones and the items necessary to reverse the curse on her beloved sprite. Ryth's personality: Ryth is often considered to be not completely trustworthy due to her Shadow origins, and this suspicion is not misguided. Something's a bit off about her, as she refers to an ebony statue of a Shadow Sprite as her daughter, Rune. She's mysterious and somehow depressing to talk to, as she holds many dark secrets. Her sanity is very questionable. ~*~ I like the idea of Melnoth having doubloons to trade for exclusive items, and Ryth here can deal in the retired items. You can trade runestones (or another currency; probably about 100 or so of them) for a chest of the element of the runestones you traded her, which may contain one of the retired items from that element's holiday. You can only do this once every time she and Melnoth visit, though, so choose wisely! Maybe this could be a random event that happens once every year in the middle of the month? That way, it won't interfere with any holidays or NotN and everyone would be totally unprepared. Maybe the admins would give a few days' notice, but other than that it would be completely unexpected. However, there would never be two visits less than 3 months apart-- if there's one in December, the earliest the next one could be would be March or April. Even if the admins decide not to use this idea, we could do this as a user-made event to raise money for a good cause! :-)

@Autopilot oh I had my own idea as well xD though in this case it'd be more gem based, still thinking of what fair prices should be, mean if it's to high people won't bother. To low and people will whine "og but they didn't have to work as hard as us" so trying to think of a good middle price, not to high and not to low. after all I'm pretty sure lots of people would gladly buy gems, so more moolah for FR XD Seryna’s Specialties: You spot a fairly small stand, you notice some rare items stalled out on it. You can’t help and approach it; a skydancer sits next to it. Apparently she’s she owner, she looks at you. She appears a little bossy and quite posh you almost want to turn around when she calls out “Hello there, I’m Seryna and I can see you are looking for some rare things. I might have what you’re looking for but-“she raises one of her claws and rubs three digits together “It will cost you, these items are not easy to come by so they are rather pricey if you got the gems to spare I’m more then happy to sell you some items” She straightens herself and scowls a little “but if you don’t have the gems for them I suggest you leave” Alright this Skydancer doesn’t seem all that nice or perhaps she just cares a lot about gems “You might want to come back during the festivals I can get my hands on some interesting stuff for you” You ask her how she even obtains these things she responds by having her claw in the air dismissingly and giving you a rather suspicious smile “I’d tell you but a lady never reveals her secrets after all” and here she is: I seriously have a mighty need for a skydancer like this in my lair now XD deck her out with red clawtips and maybe crimson silks or garnet flourish stuff XD she's all about that bling bling
Ryth's Retired Requisition

Still no support for bringing back retired anything, for the reasons gone into on the other thread.

I like the idea of the new tradepost, however, but maybe for exclusive items, etc.

Sounds good to me.

A nice way to bring sprites back so newer players will be able to aquire them even in 5+ years when all now existing sprites are either in loving permanent homes or 'frozen' into inactive acounts.
Plus the obvieous lovely things like Pirates and Dubloons and Pirates... And Macaws and Pirates... And big Sailships and Pirates.

@Autopilot

Not sure on the neutral thing. Firstly anything marine reminds me at one of the Tidepotato. Secondly having a neutral 'flight' has much the same problems as adding any new flight would have.
I suppose one can use it for roleplaying pruposes rather well. But right now I cant see a neutral flight work well (if at all) in FR.
