TOPIC | Name unnamed exalted

I get that it's impractical to think of names for every dragon that might come across a Lair, especially if it's a dedicated exalt lair.

I propose that when an unnamed dragon gets exalted, a name gets picked at random and essentially the deity picks a name for the dragon that was sent to them. (But it's just a randomly genned name)

It's just a little thing that I think would help out lore dedicated clans.

It'd definitely make buying AH dragons more appealing if they didn't have a super long list of Unnamed's in them! Also it'd make it less sad to see an exaltie have a cute lil name for them because they deserve a lil love for their sacrifice

yeah support, nobody likes seeing those unnamed children in your dragon's offspring list and giving unnamed exalts a randomized name would save some trouble. also i think it's a cool lore element to think that the deity you're submitting your dragon to names them !
It's just a little thing that I think would help out lore dedicated clans.
Except....I have two dragons where any children who don't meet certain conditions get exalted unnamed because in my lore they don't exist. Forcing a name onto them would ruin that. Plus, there are many other reasons to have Unnamed exalts in lore: -hatchling was still born? -dragon never earned a name? -parents are unknown? (for when you exalt the parents of a dragon unnamed) -hatchlings don't exist in lore? -dragon left the clan and the clan doesn't know its name? -etc. Is your lore any better than those who incorporate unnamed exalts into theirs? Absolutely not. There is a very simple solution: name before you sell. Once that dragon is no longer in your lair it is no longer yours and you have 0 say over what happens to it. The owner is well within their rights to exalt the dragon unnamed. Very hard no support, name before you sell

@LordMalak, then by the very same token, you could also name the dragon Unnamed or Unknown. Be aware that its also a risk a lot of new players may not know of? Like they sell their first babies but are unaware of the common use of fodder, etc, and its easier to rectify mistakes like that by doing an auto name for newbies or people wanting to buy a dragon with offspring that may contain 6 or many more Unnamed but being saddened by the abundance? Also lore wise, I'd say its interesting to incorporate the mechanic you have no control over at times (i.e being a new player or buying a previously bred dragon) but its a bit of a problem for a lot of people that may not want to write stillborn or non named dragons? why not give people the option rather than placing them in a situation where no options are available to change it? plus it wasn't a question of whether their lore was better, it was an open opinion/search for a better solution to the naming mechanic that more than a few players complain about? Its a pretty common issue, so i hope you can see it wasn't to dissuade cleverness or adaptability, but to maybe seek more flexibility for all and not expect people come onto FR knowing everything? so still a support, but also maybe a hope that new ideas come to the table.

@Drazerii

You cannot name a dragon Unnamed

Unknown is not the same. It implies the dragon still exists, which it does not in my lore

Even after being exalted, the dragon is still tied to the account that exalted it - and thus is still owned by the exalter. If the exalter had wanted the dragon to be unnamed, the the owner of the parents has no say in it, especially if they have never owned the unnamed dragon. By implying that this is better for lore lairs, you implied that those who want no unnamed exalts were more important than those who did.

Something that would work for both sides would be if they ever came out with a way to hide exalted offspring. That way people could have their unnamed exalts and the people who don't like it could hide it. I have also seen someone suggest on another thread (that was made for the same reason as this one) that there could be a PSA somewhere for newbies to let them know that exalting unnamed is a thing. (Also, the people over there are waaay better at voicing their argument over there. I suck at expressing my opinion lol)

No.

Just name your dragons and let the rest of us play how we want in peace. If you are unhappy with the fact that the buyer can do whatever they want with the things they now own don't sell stuff that you can't let go of.

How about an option in the user settings that's default on (or off, whichever), and can be turned off (or on) for auto-naming exalted dragons?

It would only effect dragons in your own lair, and sold dragons can be named or unnamed as is the want of the user that buys them.

While I understand where this comes from, I also have to say no support. Unless it's an option that got prompted at the time of exalting an unnamed and asks the exalter 'do you want to name your dragon before exalt?', that's the only situation I can accept. Forcing a name onto all exalts is the same as dictating a play style onto everyone. For a game like FR that had encourages player creativity and imagination when it comes to individual lore, I feel this is a restriction to how far our imagination can go. But, by providing a prompt at exaltation to let people have a last minute chance to name their dragon would be a good substitute.

edit:
A toggle is nice, but I'd rather it to be a prompt at the exalt each time instead, because people can easily forget what they choose in their settings, or want to do something different once in a while.
