TOPIC | Dragons need less food
1 2 3 4
It's a simple idea, so maybe it's been said before but I had a quick search in the forum and I didn't see anything, so here's what I suggest:
Dragons eat less food, maybe one food point every 24 hours for example. Or no food at all, to be honest I dislike the whole system but that's a little too radical a change isn't it

Now, the reason I say this is that every single time I've left the site it was because I couldn't keep up with feeding my dergs. I keep trying to come back because I love the site but it's just too much to put so so much time into just maintaining their food. I don't have a huge lair but I just spent 50kt on food and I didn't even get half of them fed. So my only choices are spend all my treasure on food, or don't feed them.

I know most people's response would be something like, but what about the coli?
But not everyone has access to the coli, due to bad internet or many other things.
Or what about gathering?
10 gathering turns isn't enough to feed 2 pages of dergs, and I know lots of people have more. And it's unfair for people to never get to scavenge or dig just because they don't have the internet for the coli.

The fact that dragons require so much food means that being a casual player is impossible, I can either dedicate hours of every day to the site to get money for food, or I can let my dragons starve, and it makes it much harder for players to return to the site after being away for a while.

I could just let my dergs starve but I'd feel far too bad haha ^^

EDIT: There's a good point about the food banks, and it's true that they're very helpful, but you can't keep going back there every week or so, it's not a reliable source of food.

Flights have food banks to help people feed their dragons. Food requirements are already pretty low for dragons.

No support.

Food is a soft cap on lair size. Active dragons in lairs eat up a lot of FR's server resources. That's why exalting is so important, larger lairs are more expensive, and dragons need to eat food. If we removed this, then players would just hoard a ton of dragons, taxing the servers, and causing all other aspects of the game to run poorly. In addition, a lot of players earn their income by selling excess food. If FR reduced food so dramatically, all those players would lose their method of making treasure. That's why I don't support this.

If writers are supposed to "show not tell," why are we called "storytellers" and not "storyshow-ers"?
Sorry, but the only thing you lose is the well fed bonus, and the only two things you can't do is breed and fight in the coliseum.

People are absolutely able to dig or scavenge, they just can't feed their dragons (which many don't) if they have too many.

You can also buy food by playing the fairgrounds/breeding and selling or breeding and exalting dragons/buying dragons to exalt. You could also potentially hire someone to farm the coliseum for you (which might be cheaper than buying food directly from the AH)

However, I don't even buy food, and barely coli anymore, and by hoarding the food I have, I have plenty of food to feed my dragons by gathering every week but festival weeks when I then scavenge and dig. For those without access to the coliseum (not just don't like it but literally can't access it) then they have to adjust their playstyles accordingly.

Part of the game is dragon management and feeding dragons, and I see no reason to nerf that considering it is already pretty low anyways. I can let my dragons go a couple of days without having to feed them without losing my well fed bonus.

I do understand where you are coming from, but since there are no penalties for not feeding dragons (IE they don't die or change pose to sad poses) I see no reason to remove this part of the game.

No support. Dragons aren't actually all that hard to feed. I've been having a few issues with it lately, but that partly because I missed some days of gathering, not because I haven't been getting enough food from gathering. For a long time, I had no issue keeping my food stores above 2000 for each type using gathering turns alone, and I have well over 100 dragons. Even if you don't use the coliseum, dragons don't need much food at all.

The reason you're having issues is because you're dragons are completely starved, so it's taking more food points to feed them. If they where fully fed with just a few food points going away each day, your gathering turns would be enough. Especially since you get five extra gathering turns if you keep your dragons well fed for three days in a row.

If you can't feed a load of dragons, have fewer dragons.

I don't see it as necessary to change how often they're fed (again -- it's already been reduced) because a few people struggle to feed lairs of 50+ and can't use a main feature of the site for whatever reason. The Coliseum is there for our use and bolsters our food supplies. If some people can't use it because of bad internet or whatever, it's not a good reason to change a major feature of the site.

Yours is not a majority problem. If most of the players, even casual ones, can keep their lairs fed it's a specific player problem, not a site problem, and changing it would impact everyone ESPECIALLY since a high number of players can and do use the coliseum.

It sucks that you can't, but it's there. If you are unable or unwilling to use it, you need to adapt, the site should not change for you.

UK time. Sorry for timezone-related delays in responses. They/Them.
You don't lose anything , when you don't feed them.
Also I spent around 8 hours in total in the coliseum and had enough food for my clan.
And by enough I mean around 10k Foodpoints? You dont have to grind everyday to keep your dragons fed ^^

I also would like , if the dragons would eat more , so it would be a challenge to keep them fed.

No support, sorry. You seem to have an unfortunate combination of factors making it difficult for you, but that's you specifically, and suggestions address the entire site.

For most people:
  • Gathering is more than enough (I get most of my lair's food this way, and I have almost a hundred dragons.)
  • The Coliseum is available for any extra
  • Failing to feed dragons has few penalties
  • Finding food is supposed to be a challenge as your lair grows

To summarize, just because something is hard for you doesn't mean it should be made easier. Firstly, it's possible that it's supposed to be hard, and secondly, most people might not find it as hard as you do.

(Also, the Coliseum inaccessibility argument is flawed. FR should not design or adjust features, e.g. food, based on the assumption that another large part of the site is unavailable. Effort should go into making difficult-to-access areas of the site easier to access, not into making them less important.)

That is a very good point about making the coli more accessible, I suppose if it worked for everyone which ideally it would, then food wouldn't be a problem for me or anyone else who at the moment can't use the coli.

*looks closely at the achievements of the OP* I mean... if your dragons are starving... maybe try actually gathering food instead of digging and scavenging? I don't coli yet not only I feed my lair from gathering alone but also sell expensive ingredients, and occasionally dig and scavenge as well. The higher your gathering level is, the more food you get as you'll get access to the high-point items then.

Idk, food has never been a problem to me though I do maybe 15 battles per week at most, and often even less than that.
