TOPIC | Separate roleplay forums

I suppose I'm a little salty, but I'd like to see two roleplay forums. One for multiple people roleplays, and one for 1x1's. It's sort of frustrating to look through the roleplay forum for rp's to join and half the page is just 1x1's that are entirely irrelevant to everyone besides the two people posting. That or create a rule that states 1x1's should be taken to PM, but I feel like the first suggestion would be a little kinder to everyone.

Any reason this shouldn't be a thing? I feel like the RP forum moves fast enough for the separation to make sense, since people looking for groups to being their rp can get buried quick by just a couple of 1x1's.

As someone who likes both types of rps (group and 1x1) and someone who currently is in a 1x1 right now, I'm actually irked at the suggestion of possibly forcing those to pms. I HATE role playing through pms! All the RE's are annoying and its hard to keep a record of the story that's going on because there's no type of thread or search option in the pms. Absolutely no support for that part of the suggestion.

However, I do agree it would be easier to find open group rps if there was a section just for them with another for private rps. I understand your frustration, I do, but people don't do 1x1 rps just for the sake of being annoying. They do them because they were previously arranged in an organized fashion with a solid story-line worked out beforehand with one or small group of players.

Open group rps tend to be more spontaneous with looser story-lines and varied writing abilities between the different rpers. Don't punish those who planned and organized rps before posting them just because its inconvenient for you.

But yes, I feel like a separation would make sense. However, there will still probably be more 1x1 or private rps than open rps even if they do divide them.

I didn't know 1x1 rpgs were even allowed since this sounds too much like "private conversations". So I defenitely support a way to shove the 1x1 into another category or separate forum so that people looking to join an rpg are not blocked by a "but you can't join this is private!" Wall.

Support.

While we're at it, it'd be nice to split non-FR and FR RP into their own categories. :v

This would make everything less confusing. On a similar note, it would be nice to have section for Roleplaying Requests as well. For obvious reasons, threads where people look for partners and/or propose ideas end up being buried by the (naturally more active) effective Roleplay threads.
I didn't know 1x1 rpgs were even allowed since this sounds too much like "private conversations". So I defenitely support a way to shove the 1x1 into another category or separate forum so that people looking to join an rpg are not blocked by a "but you can't join this is private!" Wall.
Typically private rps are discussed in other threads first or by pm and those who want to participate can apply then or ask to join before the actual rp is posted in the forum at which point those who will be participating have already been decided. It’s not that everyone else in the rp forum is intentionally left out but rps with too many players and characters can get overwhelming and confusing. Even open rps typically have to close at some point due to the volume of participants. Besides, there are plenty of rpers who get really stressed in rps with a lot of people in them and simply prefer 1 on 1 or a small group rps. Although there are some that do stay open for an indeterminately amount of time, it’s just not feasible to keep every rp open for everyone who is on forums all the time. You just can’t do that when writing stories with random folks poping in to join for a bit when they feel like it and then dropping out whenever they feel like it. That’s how rps die. So unless they seriously update the pm mechanic to where 1x1 rps will actually be feasible and in a similar format to rps in the rp forum, I think separating them would be best. Also, just as a side note, I’m not arguing with your statement, I’m just trying to give some information about the rp forum for those who don’t know much about it :) @Jupiteru I actually kind of like your idea about a section for rp requests. What if that’s a better way to divide them? Rps of any kind and then an rp request section. That way if your looking for an open rp or just 1 person to rp with you easily have a place to look for one without going through all the active rps.

I think it might work better if we had a better PM system. One that doesn't RE:RE:RE:RE, and one where the conversation is on-going and streamlined, with the newer posts either at the very top or the very bottom of the conversation. This would help not only RPers but anyone and everyone who uses PMs. Maybe a way to search PMs, maybe folders to put PMs in--just more features in general.

As to splitting the forums, I'm neutral. But I give full support for a more efficient PM overhaul.

Pings are disabled.

If writers are supposed to "show not tell," why are we called "storytellers" and not "storyshow-ers"?
I support.

Ibeen looking through RPs and ninety percent are 1x1s....

and I agree with gem there
PMs are great, but like can we get at LEAST a search system???

Exactly. ^ ^ I've seen other forums with a similar organization and it kind of worked, since it was easier to advertise your roleplay and find partners that share your interests.

I imagine this could help with groups as well; the request form works fairly well with them, too! In the aforementioned forum, for example, it's common to post your ideas in the request forum in order to recruit members. It allows you to discuss without clogging the thread and to advertise the group later on if you wish to add new members.

I was actually surprised when I realized there was no distinction here! Having to scroll several pages of closed Roleplays in the vain hope of finding one you can join is quite frustrating...

I'd support two separate roleplay forums. I don't see why it would be bad for there to be an open and a closed RP forum, so long as they were all public to view, so moderation can take place.

If you want it properly private, then take it offsite. Obviously.

When it comes to participation, I think RP is different to other 'private' threads. It's not like people are using a public forum to faff about with their friends, something which should be done offsite in non-RP cases. Sometimes RP is just between two people and there's no reason for it to be hidden away in the hideous FR IM system.

RP is a thing based on writing, and if people were forced to include everybody in any given RP, the quality of the playing, as well as the tone and direction, could be ... less than optimal for the people who set it up. I've seen some of the RP on FR and ... while I mean no disrespect to anybody, if I had set up a private thread with my RP partner and got writing of that quality shoved in, I wouldn't be happy about it.

That said, sifting through loads of 1x1 RPs to find some open ones must be tedious (I dunno, I don't RP on FR), so a separation of those two types would make sense to me. There's no downside, either.
