TOPIC | New/Renamed Colors from Flight Eye Color
1 2
The Flight Rising color wheel is amazing as it is. But, what if there were a few more? I've seen dragons be circulated and bought up and more widely wanted for having "matching eyes" and we already have the "Ice" coloring- I feel like that's unfair to the other flights.
What I'm suggesting is adding colors that directly match the eyes of a dragon.
How cool would it be to have an XXX 'Light' colored Dragon with light eyes?
And this doesnt just apply to Light dragons. We should have a color for all of the Flight eyes.
We already have Banana, Yellow, Grapefruit, etc, but it'd be cool to have a color directly sampled from the eye color of each flight.
And if these colors already exist then I'd love to see a name change for them.

I would support non flight color eye contact apparel but I don’t support changing the eyes for dragons who have already hatched in a certain elemental region. Besides that, I’m not sure I completely understand what you are suggesting with the different eye colors matching the same gene colors the dragon has. How exactly would that work? I’m a bit confused.

I'm suggesting new colors added to the color wheel that directly match the eye color of the flight.
Like entirely new colors called 'Light' 'Nature' 'Arcane' etc that directly match the flight eye colors, sampled from the eye color.
In example,
The 'Light' color would be taken from the Light eye color.

No thanks. Adding a handful of new colors in to the colorwheel seems like a waste of effort and I'd rather not another large expansion like they did in the past as many colors are already quite similar to one another. Nor do I see the point in renaming the colors--plus some of the flight names don't really make sense as colors. Gloom, Orca and Eldritch are already stretching it; and I'd rather not see more nonsense names by changing Flaxen to Light or Shamrock to Naturefor example.

While nice in theory, and I potentially wouldn't mind some colors being renamed, I don't really think this is truly needed/wanted enough to justify the confusion/upset it would cause.

1. If colors were renamed, this would mean that people would need to 'relearn' the color wheel where those colors were changed. While this would be a minor inconvenience , it would still be one.However, this would be the option I would support the most.

2. Adding new colors would be problematic: We already have 177 colors up from 64 previously. Adding in 9 new colors seems inconsequential, but what if the 'flight colors' weren't significantly different from an existing color? This would mean either we have to do 1 again, or have two colors that are practically indistinguishable from one another (we already have several colors that are pretty close). The true problem, though, would be breeding ranges. They were not really planning, as far as I know, to expand the color wheel because it would and did, greatly mess with people's breeding ranges. Adding in 11 (at most) new colors could and probably would cause many breeding ranges to flip to the opposite side of the wheel (I have two 'half wheel' breeding pairs) which could greatly impact people's projects and anger them for little benefit.

Also, do the current 'flight' colors such as ice and fire match the eye color already? (I Never paid attention so I don't know)

@Crazyredfire

This may have already been answered, but I think OP meant having colors of the wheel match the existing flight eye color. So you would have a 'water' color that matches the water eye color.

Kinda hard to pin down what a fligh's 'actual' eye colour is though. All breeds seem to wear them differently. Sampling across the breeds with more prominent eyes gives a whole range of colours that could be called 'wind' Also check out the gradient on the nocturne eye.

Ah okay thanks SolarSonnet and Jemadar! I guess I was just reading it wrong and thought it meant changing the eye colors to match the color wheel colors. As the suggestion stands now, I don’t support another color expansion. I think the colors we have are plenty and I think there are already colors that match the elemental eyes pretty closely.

Edit: I also don’t really want to see colors renamed since they are already well known by the player base.

Those are both really great points! And while I can definitely see some problems, I feel like the eye colors would either replace or be renamed from what the current Flight representatives are.
I can also see a lot of people getting upset over this, so maybe just a rename of existing colors would be better than adding new colors altogether.
But, uaing the Lightweaver as an example if new colors were added;
http://flightrising.com/main.php?p=lair&id=8&tab=dragon&did=8
The 'Light' color could either
A; be taken from her eye color.
Or B; be renamed from her Primary, Secondary or Tertiary (Sunshine Banana or Gold) depending on what fits the flight most.

Undel said we wouldn't have another color wheel expansion, to not ruin people's breeding pairs. (RIP LIME)

I don't really dig the "we have enough colors" argument, though. There are still colors that have really rough transitions in the wheel, and some traditional colors aren't present. Things like Lime, Scarlet, Chestnut, Ebony and Puce

Also, no support for renaming colors to Flight names. The names we have are fine.

Also fun fact - Shadow the real color, is nowhere near the color it is on FR. It's a shade of brown. Water, the real color, would be closer to what is used for Ice eyes than what is used for Water eyes.

No support since we allready have matching colors.

There is no need to add colors just for their name.
