TOPIC | Studs For Breeding
I think that being able to offer your male dragons up for breeding availability with a fee to other people would be a super neat addition to the game! It would help broaden lineages and solve for that annoying problem of not being able to breed two dragons because you bred for the same pretty dragon look for too long. It would also be cheaper, as you wouldn't have to try and find an expensive dragon to buy and take up a space in your lair, rather you could pay a much cheaper fee for the same result.

I literally JUST came up with this, so it obviously needs much refinement, but I think the idea is a valid one and would be an exciting and broadening feature to the game!

So why only males? Makes no sense to me. Also we definitely need to call it differently. Studding is a term you use for mindless animals and not for people.

The fee should be additional to the price for the breeding. All babies would go automatically to the buyer and a nest would need to be blocked - probably with an option to use either their or your own. The seller would of course need to accept the request so they can react to a buyers offer.

So, something like they have on Lioden? There you can put your lion up for service, and you can set a fee. Other people can look at your selections and choose who they want, and you can either accept their request or deny it. BUT, their male lions do not have a breeding cooldown while the females do, and the owner of the lioness gets to keep the cubs.

I do not know how this would here since both parents have to be on the nest, and both have breeding cooldowns.

There are some coding issues to consider with a two player breeding system--namely both dragons tend the nest and hatchlings aren't rolled until the nest is hatched, nests must be manually incubated and must be manually hatched so its quite possible to keep a pair in limbo--unable to be rebred, exalted, breed changed, regened, sold, etc, so if there aren't things put into place to prevent issues, a player could end up with a dragon they cannot breed, exalt, regene or change breed because the other player disappeared.

If a two player breeding option is added I'd like to see these restrictions
  • Both sexes can be put up as available for breeding.
  • The player who sends the breeding request gets the nest in their lair and is the one who gets the eggs. They are also the only player who can incubate or hatch the nest.
  • No dragon actually leaves the lair.
  • Both dragons go on the breeding cooldown ((lore wise, the studded dragon is still helping tend the nest, game wise its to keep the current requirement consistent))
  • If the nest isn't hatched in X days ((probably 15 days max as that corresponds with the length of a plentiful's cooldown. The minimum amount should be a day or two more than the needed to incubate and hatch a nest if you tend it daily, to give a little bit of leeway)) then the clutch is automatically discarded to prevent dragons from being stuck in limbo

@DragonSage
You make a good point even though the idea is nice I see problems with it and the coding will be a little tough. But if they do add it I want restriction so my dragons will not be trapped by another player.

Restriction that will help protect players dragon then I will support this but now I can see any reasons to sopport this so no for now

I'd love for this feature! I used to abuse it on BK

I definitely like the idea of a shared breeding/nesting so neither of the two parents have to leave their lair and what DragonSage proposed. But I do not agree with an automatic studding system where you can put your dragons in the studding market. They are Earth equivalent of human, unless you're thinking more in the line of 'sperm donors'? But the current breeding system of FR wouldn't be possible to support such idea, as both parents are tending the nest and both has breeding cooldown. I wouldn't want to change that.

I've always like the idea of having a shared "nesting/breeding" situation because sometimes I want to co-breed with a player but I'm so paranoid about sending my dragons to them, and sometimes they are paranoid about sending to me, so we wind up just saying "meh" and not doing it. I think that it would definitely save on scamming/dragon stealing if people had a way to share-breed. However, determining who gets the offspring would be very difficult.

Though I did use to play Lioden, and I did like the idea of the stud service fee, or a breeding cost for allowing the male to be bred to a female. However, I think in terms of FR, that would only be the fee of allowing the female to keep all of the offspring. So you run into snags because yeah you got a fee for doing it.. however, the owner of the female is going to make bank off selling the hatchlings whereas all the male owner gets is the stud fee which .. would seem paltry in comparison most likely.

I think it's a nice 'food for thought' kind of suggestion though, which could open up possibilities for game advancement later down the road, but at its base, in comparison to games like Lioden's stud fee feature, it just wouldn't make any sense with how FR's system works atm
