TOPIC | Temp. Freezing Accounts
1 2 3 4 5 6 7
For those times when people go on vacation or just don't have time to take care of their dragons, would there be a way to temporarily freeze accounts?

Freezing being: Dragons would stop losing energy when a player doesn't care for them during the days they have their account frozen. Some things could be put in place to make sure people don't abuse this feature, such as not being able to use frozen account dragons in the Coliseum.

Thank you! (And pardon me if this has been suggested before or even already exists. I checked the site all over for this feature/suggestion threads but couldn't find any.)

----

EDIT: Before you post:

We do need a freezing system but please note that this would be a system that does not allow losses or gains. It would also be a system where you would have to wait a few days before freezing your account again so that people can't abuse the feature by freezing overnight. A perfect system would NOT punish you for freezing your account NOR reward you. It is simply a way to make it so you don't lose /horrible/ amounts of food stocks while you are away for 1-2 weeks on vacation.

There was a topic in the suggestions forum about egg sitting/a dragon hotel that would take care of your dragons/eggs while you are gone but completely freezing your account would also be a great idea. I like to travel a lot and sometimes there is no way to check on my dragons and eggs. So yes, I'd support that.

If you don't have time to take care of your dragons, you probably don't really have time to come on the site... so I think the best way to prevent abuse/unfair advantage (in that you don't need to feed the creatures or worry about eggs rotting) would be that you can't buy or sell items, play games, participate in the coliseum, take advantage of the daily activities (including well fed bonus), breed dragons, have dragons cooldown decrease or have babies grow up during the time your account is frozen. So you would only really be able to reply/comment/make threads, access your message center and adjust how long your account will be frozen.

Do you think this would be an acceptable way to freeze the account during business trips/vacation? It would prevent the loss of eggs through rot and the bonus from consecutive days online because those days would effectively not exist. But it would mean you would not have access to any of the game aspects of the site.

Alphares- That sounds like a neat idea! But yeah freezing would be good for those times when you really just need to stop playing for awhile or can't access your account. I go on vacation to a ranch once in awhile and they don't have any wifi up there. So it makes things impossible when it comes to sim sites!

Praeses- Well I know that Flight Rising has a very large age range, being a college student myself I sometimes hit stressful snags and have to freeze my other sim accounts because the thought of taking care of my virtual pets when I have actual stuff to do IRL is just un-needed stress! I love playing these kinds of games when I have time, but I also have a lot of stuff in my life I need to pay bigger attention to. Sim games aren't the priority for me, and I'm sure they aren't for a lot of people who have jobs and such.

But yes, having a big set of limits on freezing would certainly be needed. Although I know some popular sim games that still allow the collection of items. In my opinion it's up to those that run the site what they want the limits to be! As long as it's not giving frozen accounts an unfair advantage, then it works well.

The basics should certainly be covered however. So no breeding, aging, combat, etc. Anything where a dragon is doing something means that the account isn't really frozen and defeats the purpose of freezing your account/dragons in the first place. Mainly we just need something that makes it possible to go on vacation without coming back to sick dragons I think!

I'm certainly in favor of this idea. I know I'm probably going to have a lot to deal with during college, and I'm sure there will be days when I just can't spare the time to maintain my dragons and such on FR.

Regarding limits: If it were me, I'd freeze everything, but it's up to the admins.~

I know what you mean about putting life in front of breeding sims and there are a lot of reasons why someone might need to put internet things on the back burner. Currently I don't need the option, but I can certainly see its usefulness. The penalties for not logging in don't seem that bad except for the eggs potentially rotting. I don't believe dragons get sick, just that you would need to feed them before fighting in the coliseum or breeding, but I may have missed something.

I thought suggesting some things to include in account freezing might help with discussion and maybe give the admins a place to start when they have time to look into including this feature.

@Praeses They don't get sick, no, but their energy levels certainly drop which is a bummer if there's no way to take care of them while you're gone. I mean you can fix things when you get back but it would be so much easier to be able to just freeze the dragons. Also aging is sometimes a big deal to breeders in various sims, I know a lot like to keep the ages of their pets low as it creates a better market. Also the eggs rotting would certainly be a problem for those who might be breeding on a large scale. Missing a week could hurt their breeding project pretty bad.

And I appreciate it! I would love if more people helped with this discussion.

The basics are simply that we need something that lets us go on vacation without detrimental effects on dragons/clutches. I know on some sites there are also freezing limits. Such as you can only freeze your account for so many days each month. But that can over complicate things at times.

The biggest issue would be, as people have mentioned, using freezing to cheat. I'm sure that freezing accounts completely, as in not letting people collect items and use their dragons in any way, would make for a more stable in-game economy. The more items that are gathered without dragons needed to feed would mean items going down in value in general. Although that is just my assumption after watching various other sim games and their own economies.

I agree partly. My sister and I have to leave for a week in about two weeks and we don't want our dragons to loose energy or our eggs to rot.
If there would be a freeze, maybe somebody can put a timer on their account. Like I'll be gone for a week so I enter the dates I'll be gone and on those days my account "freezes". Maybe I can still log on on those days but I can't do anything on the site until the timer runs out or I request for the freeze to be off.
If not like this I'd like some way to have my dragons be okay while I'm out on vacation.

A thought on feeding - food is taken from your stocks and if you froze your account your dragons would quickly eat through them (especially if you're time away is not a duration you can formally plan out specifically to stock up for).

I'd suggest that an account freeze would feed the dragons daily until food stocks run dry - that that point they'd lower to say half food on the assumption that they go part feral and simply hunt for food; but not enough to sustain bonuses.

Hunting/gathering could also be fixed to something like 1 activation for each option per day so that players don't lose out on them, but at the same time don't get as much as they would normally (discourages people just leaving the game in frozen mode to build up a stock - whilst at the same time not overly punishing those forced away).

Daily gains from things like flight dominance gained as normal.

Familiars and eggs - honestly I'd say eggs get attention daily as normal. Familiars I'd say no gains since that could be abused since they can give quite a bit per day once friendly.

I do strongly support the idea of a holiday mode - happens to us all that we can't be on site every day. I'd also say that accounts left completely inactive for a period of time auto enter frozen mode. So for example if you're away for 7 days without ever logging into your account the game puts your flight into frozen mode. This helps those who are forced away by events beyond their control. (ps 7 days is a random number off the top of my head - it could be longer or shorter).

I don't think that locking players out of the gaming portion of the site would be punishment. Especially if thread participation was still allowed. The idea would be that the option would only be used when people were intending to be away, unable to access the game anyway. I feel that it would be most fair to have the dragons locked down in terms of feeding, breeding, incubating and coming off breeding cool down. No food consumed and none gathered. To me this would prevent people farming items and encourage them to stay active on the site, as well as reduce the distraction the site would provide while they are busy.
Having a chance for the eggs to rot would actually really weaken my support of the freeze as that is the only real concern I would have for missing days online.

As for taking advantage of daily activities I'm pretty sure that (right now at least) daily activities, including feeding, take 10 minutes or less assuming the site is running ok. But that could just be me.
