This isn't really a definite suggestion, so I'm not sure if it really belongs here, but I've noticed certain trends in Dominance. Specifically, that Shadow and Arcane, the two biggest flights, tend to rank near the bottom, and Earth, the smallest flight, tends to rank at the top or in the top three pretty much... all the time. Given that there's no way to delete an account, the larger flights are probably accumulating dead accounts. I'm not sure what the best way to deal with that would be, whether it's to give players the option to delete an account (which has its pros and cons), or to delete accounts after a certain amount of time (again, pros and cons), but I thought it would be interesting to discuss.

Dominance only take accounts active in the last two weeks into account. So, if Earth is good, it's not because it has less inactive accounts.
Also, Earth has actually a big proportion of dead accounts, because all inactive accounts that never picked a flight USED to be funneled straight to Earth.
It was changed after it was pointed out by Earth members - but yeah.

Support for offering players the option to delete their accounts, with the understanding that all dragons on the account are exalted and all items remaining on the account are lost, and the understanding that only the owner can delete the account.

^This.
I don't support deleting a user's account without their consent for ANY reason, especially not inactivity. Life happens - if I had to go on hiatus for a few months because of a medical emergency and I came back to find out that my account was locked or deleted due to inactivity, when I've invested IRL money in gems and countless hours of coli to earn treasure to pretty up dragons and buy familiars and whatnot, I would be... upset, putting it mildly. It's one thing to consent to account deletion, I don't mind that being a voluntary option. I will always mind it being forced on people.

Agreed with above players. Also, FR has recently demonstrated that they welcome and encourage the owners of supposedly 'dead' accounts to come back whenever they like by introducing the feature to fully feed their dragons when they do so. I would say that implies the admins are in agreement as well.

Support for voluntary deletion by the user- with at least one "Are you sure?" message so it can never happen on accident, hopefully!- but not for deletions during absences. If this became a thing I would have had to start over three times by now probably, and I would've quit the first time when I lost Lacey to inactivity deletion.

I will mention for those talking about voluntary deletions - You can already sort of do this.
recently there was an update that specified that if users wish to close their accounts they can contact the staff about it. Previous to this update there was no way to get an account closed besides breaking the rules which... wasn't great and saw many people purposefully act out in order to achieve a banned status.
With the new procedure all you have to do is ask for your account to be closed. There are even users who I've seen discuss that they've closed their account voluntarily this way and then changed their mind later and had the account re-opened
So in terms of a voluntary account suspension - it is already possible.
I'm iffy on straight deleting accounts however. As in actually wipping the ID# and inventories.
Firstly, if a player decides to come back and finds their accounts gone (as in a non-voluntary wipe) then that's not really a good idea for reasons stated all over the suggestions forums.
Second, in terms of voluntary deletion - it IS possible to change your mind. As mentioned with the above user (It's not me but I don't know if they wish me to share their details like this so I'll choose to keep them anonymous for right now. They did bring it up openly on another suggestion forums thread though so if one is that determined I'm sure they could locate them) can decide they want to come back.
FR has always kept the general idea that it's OKAY if you go away for a very long time because you can ALWAYS come back to your account. Even - as it seems - when people voluntarily close their accounts.
So I'm not really on board with the idea that accounts should be perma-wiped.
On another more technical note. How would it even work to completely delete a user ID#? I wouldn't imagine it would go back into circulation and if that's the case I could see it messing with a few of the sites features that rely on ID tracking.
What happens to the dragons on the account? All of them auto-exalted? Does THAT count for Dom? Are they perma deleted as well? If so that would break (actually literally break) the dragon lineage features (parents, offspring, etc)... so also not a good solution
Items? Do they get moved to admin accounts? Perma deleted, etc?
What happens to the skins/accents made by the user in question? Do they get removed? The info-box changed to reflect that the user is no longer existent? Does nothing change (as nothing changes now when a user changes their name - the tooltip, to my knowledge, does not update) and one is simply left in the dark about the user?
On the direct topic of the OP.
@/Sopheroo has already answered their concerns about active/inactive accounts and I can safely say that it is already possible to close your account. While I certainly wouldn't suggest it to those who want to come back/leave frequently - it IS an option.
Edit: I know a few of the hypothetical questions I tossed out in the middle section have already been touched I wanted to bring them up for the sake of... well... hypothetical questions, really.
As far as support go... I don't really support full on deletion - as in wiping the ID# + Auto-exalting + item deletion since... it seems unnecessary I suppose. I guess it could effect server stability at some point but I don't think we're at that point yet. So until then I rather like the notion that even if you decide to quite and ban yourself that if you ever change your mind you don't have to come back empty handed, so-to-speak. While I wouldn't encourage casual use of the self-ban it IS a thing. So full deletion seems redundant at this particular point
