TOPIC | Allow 2-Letter Names (Again)
1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8
I'm not sure when this was changed or why, but it used to be dragons could have 2-letter names and apparently now they cannot. The naming prompt still makes it seem like 2-letters are allowed, even.

So... could we regain that power please?

Allowing two-letter names was a bug, which is why it changed. Don't see any reason not to make it allowable though.

while it was a bug... i don't understand WHY it was a bug? :O whats wrong with 2 letter names.... also why fix harmless fun bugs while years-old bugs stay around.. very silly priorities

there shouldn't be a minimum amount of letters a name can be, it's not like the names need ot be unique like our usernames

like, i can not think of a single reason names should be 1 or 2 characters :O

Support. Please please please.
While really desperate for space well before they changed this to disallow 2 letter naming, I exalted a Ra (as in the Egyptian god) and an Io (moon of Jupiter) both names I really liked and part of naming themes I love and meant to bring back with new versions later on. And then they changed the rules and now I'm out of luck on both sets of themes because I can't complete them the way I'd like to.

Support! I know that it was a bug and that's why it was fixed, but I don't see why names can't be two letters long.
while it was a bug... i don't understand WHY it was a bug?"
It's because of the search function, pretty much. If you're looking for a dragon called "Da", instead of giving you the results for "da", it's going to give you all dragons who have "da" in their name, even if it's Dalida, or DaDaDa It was extremely obnoxious for the servers

Though, I would love a dragon named Yo for... reasons...... Though, if this did get re-implemented without straining the servers, this would quite stink for the people who bought two-letter dragons for lots of money because they suddenly became 'rare' and now suddenly they're not because now anyone can name their dragons two-letter names.

I really don't think the search-strain from 2 letter names would be that big of an issue in practice... you can already search for 2-letters (heck, you can search for one letter.) How many people look for dragons via name in the search engine on a regular basis? What percentage of those searched-for dragons would have 2 letter names? If it's your own or a friend's dragon, you already know where to look for it.

I'd also assume that they'd have removed the ability to search for 1 and 2 letter phrases if it was a major performance concern, but do correct me if they've spoken about this somewhere.

Support, anyway.

@inkdeer
How many people look for dragons via name in the search engine on a regular basis?
I actually do.
I'd also assume that they'd have removed the ability to search for 1 and 2 letter phrases if it was a major performance concern, but do correct me if they've spoken about this somewhere.
This is probably something that will be addressed once they recode the search page.
