TOPIC | View Lineage

This suggestion is very much based on me thinking this would be neat. Please let me know if the logistics would be too complicated.

I think it'd be really cool if we could view our dragons lineage beyond just clicking through their parents, their parents parents, their kids kids, etc etc.

It could be hosted on it's own page, and maybe you could choose whether or not you would like it to be accessible to other users? Idk.

Something along the lines of a family tree of sorts. If other dragons in the tree had a note of their genes/colors, that would be pretty interesting as well. As a site based around breeding, I think it would fit really well with the core values of the game.

Idk - I haven't thought it through loads, so there's possibly a glaring issue with this idea. But at it's base, I think it could be a fun little mechanic for curiosities sake.

I rent nests through the nest network.
Sure, why not!

Couple of caveats though - it shouldn't be possible to limit who can see it (since it's completely public information anyway) and I'd limit it to the five generations back for breeding thing. Could be a bit heavy on the server otherwise, and that gives it a purpose other than 'makes it easier to satisfy curiosity'.

I think with some restrictions on how far back you can go to save server usage, it could be neat from a curiosity point of view. I don't know if it's something I would look at regularly, but others might like it.

The main restriction I think it would need it is would have to be direct lineage.

IE, only the dragon's parents, not aunts/uncles, and so on back.

Also, no going forward (ie, the dragon you are looking at is always the 'end' point of the tree), as some dragons can literally have hundreds of children with hundreds of partners.

This would be really cool! I think it’s probably best for it to be just direct lineage. A lot of times I like to track down where my permas came from and how old their first generation ancestors are, this would make that really easy! Probably great for lineage projects too, but I don’t do a lot with that personally.

I played Ovipets before FR and they had a little "tree" at the bottom of any pet's page with images of the parents, grandparents, and great-grandparents. I think going back five gens here would be helpful for breeding, but images of all of them might be a bit of a load on the server (even if further back gen images got smaller, like on Ovi).

Thanks for the responses everyone! Going back with only direct lineage and having it be no more than 5 generations sounds good. If you want to look back further, you could perhaps click on the furthest back dragon in your dragons lineage, and it would bring you to that further back dragons own lineage?

Supporting, with the restrictions posted by Jemadar and Vendrus. I'd love to see my dragons' direct ancestry!

I'd LOVE this idea, have an actual pictured family tree instead of having to click so many times. As a huge fan of The Sims family trees, I want this so bad ^^
