please can we have spaces, hyphens, and apostrophes acceptable in names...... please..

first of all, what's the harm? these dragons need cultural-inspired names that consistently use hyphens and apostrophes

Apostrophes are actually big coding breakers, so I'm fine with them not being allowed.

Spaces, hyphens and numbers absolutely should be allowed, though

I'd love spaces and numbers, I've needed both in the past for fandragons. I wouldn't use hyphens myself, but why not them too?

While we're at it, could we have two letter named dragons? (Or even single letter named dragons?) I wanted to name a dragon Oz (as in the Marvelous Land of...), and couldn't. I wanted to have an offspring list after Sue Grafton's mystery series, but since X is just X, I'm stuck. And I'm sure people would love to make fan dragons of N (Pokemon) or L (Death Note) or Po (Kung-fu Panda). Not to mention other lovely two letter names: Io, Ax, Ox, Ed, Al, Ty, Ki, Jo etcetc.

Pings are disabled.

If writers are supposed to "show not tell," why are we called "storytellers" and not "storyshow-ers"?
While we're at it, could we have two letter named dragons?
I saw someone say once the reason two-letter names aren't allowed are for Search purposes, to cut down on lag. But it seems to me like a better way to solve that would be to make anything less than three letters unsearchable... Anyways, yeah, I'm for anything. Hyphens, numbers, yep yep.

Big support. We already know that dragons canonically have first and last names thanks to the Bounty of the Elements short stories. It feels weird that we're not allowed to do that with our own dragons

It takes Twelve Years for one Imperial pair to produce a Primal-eyed offspring of a specific sex. Goal-based breeding is dead.
The 'Harm' is that adding punctuation makes the number of names the admins need to ban for obscenity, slurs or profanity skyrocket.

I mean, the amounts of variations 'Buttface' has goes up astronomically with hyphens and spaces allowed.

Buttface is just Buttface. With hyphens it's B-uttface, B-u-t-t-face, Bu-ttface, and so on. More with spaces permitted. More with numbers. 8u-t-t face could be a dragon of the future.

That's probably the reason, as well as the requisite coding/lag ones.

I mean, I don't personally care. Not my circus, not my monkeys, just giving a reason as to why they might be disinclined to include them.

The site kind of has a history of heavy-handed bans on names (on account of using things like Urban Dictionary as a way to determine what is and isn't bad ... yeah, needless to say, some innocent things got pulled for a time) so opening the door for a whole new breed of variations on naughtiness from the users is probably not what they're going for.

UK time. Sorry for timezone-related delays in responses. They/Them.
I'd be okay with Spaces, or even if they added an additional name line? First Name and Last Name and then there wouldn't be a need for 'spaces' to be added, because each name would still be a single string of letters.

I think adding numbers is dumb, but that's just me lol.

Searching for 2 letter names, perhaps there could be a check box? 'Search 2 letter names only' or 'Search 3+ letter names'? I don't know; the tiny names never bothered me much.

I'd rather they input a slew of new names into the randomizer, or update the code that slaps letters together, because there so often only seems to be like five different names in it xD (Yes, I am clearly exaggerating but naming Fodder gets droll when the same options pop up repeatedly)

Not to be that guy, but there are already dragons out there whose names bypass the filters. It's actually really easy to do. People who want to be jerks are gonna do so regardless. We report them and move on.

Support.

I'm from a Latin country who uses different letters that are nor allowed in the name format on flight rising, like the latter ç, or just different words like coração or Natália or bênção (means blessing in English, I liked to use real words for my dragons.)
