TOPIC | More freedom for dragon's names
1 2
While I kind of understand why you'd want to restrict dragon naming to be alphabet only, I don't see any harm in alowing spaces and some special symbols to be used in names. It would give a lot of creative freedom to roleplaying clans, allowing for arabic- \ asian- \ persian-style names and decreasing the amount of "FirstNameMiddleNameMashedTogether"-kind of names.

I would definitely like different characters added to the site for dragon names, for example, letters like in Lithuanian showing up as ?, ? and others with a hook, ?, ?, the letters with lines, and also I’d love the letters æ, å, and ø from Norwegian added!

Overall support for adding other language characters into names, that was just what I personally would want but Arabic/Asian and etc. would also be amazing!

Waiting 24/7 for death's sweet release (of their next hot mixtape of course)
It'd be nice, yes, but it could potentially be a lot of work.

Every indexing, storage, and display routine would need to be rewritten to handle some revision of multi-byte LTR/RTL unicode. Also, because of the unicode character encoding methodology, players without appropriate fonts installed on their systems will still be seeing question marks (or other default substitute characters) instead of the intended multilingual ones.

As for spaces, does the code use them as string termination characters anywhere? More rewrites and testing if they are.

I would just be happy about a space honestly
I recently gave a dragon of mine, for the first time, a name of two words
And I was a bit frustrated when I realized I couldn't put a space between them
It looks so cramped together, I just want a single little space xD

If I recall correctly, part of the reason we can't have special characters (including letters with accents) is that it would make filtering out banned words/names much, much more difficult. A lot of chatrooms with strict swearing rules are a good example of this; people get around that by using swear words and putting an accented letter in place of a normal one, thereby getting around the filters.

I would love to be able to accent names correctly, but I'm not sure that the pros outweigh the cons. As Tornir pointed out, they might not appear correctly for everyone. That may be part of why FR decided to develop their own emoji system, which will be visible to all users no matter what OS, network, or country they are on/in.

Spaces, though. Spaces I can definitely get behind.

I'd be happy with a space, or even if it allowed _ if it couldn't do spaces for coding reasons.

I don't know anything of coding so I'm sorry if I'm wildly wrong, but couldn't they just make it so like: À Á Â Ã Ä = A à á â ã ä = a So any swear words filtered with A or a would be noticed immediately? Also there's issues with people trying to use foreign words/symbols as dragon names as the lack of symbol can change the meaning. Often to Bad Words. This is a benign example, but: moña: lace used to tie hair / mona: female monkey But there are SEVERAL words, that without the ñ, the user is unwittingly naming their dragon something Naughty. I think the common alt key code symbols (common to all computers) that are associated with a letter (not like, ♦ or something) should be allowed, as well as apostrophes, numbers and spaces. Dragons are known all around the site as their ID number. I don't understand why we are so limited on their names.

I'd love a space or something like that, but the point about bypassing filter with it is a problem
As on other games/forums with word filters, spaces are often used to bypass, with like: '(letter) (space) (letter+letter) (space) (letter)' to spell out words.
But then again people also do stuff using generic letters like I or O like that so maybe I'm overthinking it

But yeah, a space would be great if we could have one! (Though I'd have to buy renaming scrolls for a bunch of dragons hahah)

While I doubt it's feasible due to offspring lists, I dearly wish our dragon names could be a good deal longer.

Anyway, support for anything that adds more flexibility, especially spaces of apostrophes.

Lore shop closed for good :(
I would love to see spaces allowed, and more letters, and even numbers for all those robotic/science experiment dragons!
