The title is very self-explanatory. We need some form of tutorial for people who are starting FR. Don't know. Just throwing in ideas.

FR's community is awesome when it comes to writing guides and offering help to newbies who ask. And the fact that users do these things frees up the team to spend more time working on the site and new content.

The flip side, however, is that new players who don't ask for help, whether because they're uncomfortable with interacting, don't find their way onto the forums before making costly mistakes, or even don't realize that they could be helped in a particular area, can fall through the cracks.

Given that, I think there's definitely a need for at least a few more official guides and tutorials.

The tutorial could do with an overhaul, but it has already been suggested here

I mean there are already a lot of tutorials made for the site and a lot of flights offer newbie programs where people are given help in any aspect they have questions on to get started. I don't see a real need for this.

No support.

isn't this what the Which Waystone was supposed to be? I have it turned off, so I don't know for sure.

I'd say someone aught to make an up to date masterlist of all resources for newbies. I could start, but I might need some help.

I do Not think anyone should try writing one from scratch, that wouldn't make sense. Everything's already here, it just needs consolidation.

Dragons am I right
Personally I agree.

While user run guides are great, and are valuable assets to any site, there needs to be *official* guides and tutorials for basic functions and mechanics.

That is why most sites DO have tutorials when you first join them, instead of just tossing you off the deep end to sink or swim on your own. (some are more intrusive than others).

This would be something that players would be 'forced' to read in order to advance to the next area or finish registration process. (by 'forced' I mean that anyone could just scroll down and click next without reading, but the information would be there for those who want it) and something that would be linked in the encyclopedia and that players wouldn't have to go digging around the forums to find or clicking a ton of links from a master list to other threads.

One issue I have with player run guides, and I ran into this a lot on Sylestia, is they aren't always up to date. While the guides there are great, there are also misinformation in them, because at the time the guides were written, that information was true. HOwever, when the site change, the guide did not.

This has always been an issue with player run guides and it can be so easy for a newer player to get a hold of one containing misinformation, which is why I support official ones that can be updated by the staff when they change something.

It doesn't have to be indepth, but just general information that is helpful to most new players and gives them general ideas of where things are and how to use things. (fortunately most of FR is relatively intuitive as to how to use it and where things are).

I especially think that things like selling dragons and using the coliseum need to be covered in an official tutorial. (I often see people complain about not being able to advance beyond a certain point, and you then find out they equalized their stats and one of my HUGE confusions when I was a new player had to do with the elemental stones and which were STR based and which were INT based.)

Player created guides would still have their uses, as they would be able to go more indepth into mechanics and the best way to use them, but a knowledge of the basics is a good thing to have in any game, and it is easiest to collect that knowledge and keep it updated is for the basic tutorials to be site created and not player created.

Tutorials would be very helpful, long time players know where everything is. When i showed my dad the game he was extremely confused on what everything was because theres so much to learn and memorize when you weren't gradually introduced by updates.

I did almost exactly what you describe when I first started in the coli. First I didn't even know that stat points needed to be assigned, so I was confused as to why I couldn't progress to a higher level without dying, then I assigned them evenly, then I gave my first fighter all of her elemental attacks, and couldn't figure out why Bolt was doing almost no damage.

@Lara8

I know what you mean, I can't really recall how I first did my dragon (I did get a level 25 as a gift, so I did have a 'guide' so to speak), but just coming in, with no knowledge, most players would have put them evenly, assuming the stats actually did something (usually not me, I have always been a 'hit them before they hit me' type girl and often sink my points into damage stats rather than armor or dodging stats... Those and the ones that allow me to get more loot on games that have it :D)

Also, the issue with edit dates is that not all guides need to be constantly updated, so you could have one that is very old, but still relevant.

Plus, another thing I didn't mention: player run guides can run into issues when the original poster of the guide leaves the game. This is one of the things I was thinking of when I typed the other post. When the original poster leaves, there is no way to update the guide, so it either has to be duplicated by another player or players update them in the thread (which means a hunt through threads to find the most up to date information)

Fortunately, I haven't seen that issue a lot on FR, where guides are allowed to fall out of date and no one updates them or creates a more up to date guide, but the possibility is still there that it could happen.
