TOPIC | Awakened familiar as apparel-like item?
1 2 3
I have no idea if this would work, or how it could be coded, but what if there were an option with an awakened familiar to have them appear next to the dragon they're with? I don't think it should be mandatory, because that could easily upset some people who don't want an awakened familiar in their dragon's image, but it would be a neat additional reason to awaken a familiar for people like me who find clicking s l o w l y towards a single fancy chest to be a grind. We've already seen a few apparel pieces which are actually creatures, not clothing: It could also be fun with some of the Night of the Nocturne familiars, as a way to add treasure chests, or furniture/instruments/books, or columns and wall-mounter mirrors to the dragon's image. The problem, obviously, is that the artists would have to make many more versions of each familiar, and that could slow things down a lot. (Players might also not like the way a familiar posed with their dragon.) I unfortunately can't really draw, so I have no mock-ups to offer. :(

maybe just a regular fam pic standing next to the dragon?

Yeah, even that could definitely work--though they'd still have to adjust it in terms of where the dragon is in that pose and where the familiar is, so it wouldn't be able to be identical for all dragons.

@nonisland Agreed that actually drawing each potential familiar for use as apparel would be difficult-if-not-impossible for the artists. But you could just use their existing image, re-sized and moved around the dragon's picture to look nice, like this one I made a while ago: Given 750+ familiars and 28 dragon poses (if hatchlings and Gaolers weren't included), that's still 18,750 designs to make, but more feasible at least. Possible alternative to creating a new mechanic that allows a dragon to 'wear' their current familiar: what about an apparel piece that does the same thing? And maybe you'd get a familiar's apparel piece when you awaken them, so you could just choose whether to put in on a dragon or not, and how you want to layer it with the rest of their outfit. And presumably upon release of this, users would get copies of the apparel for familiars they've already awakened.

Yo I REALLY like this idea! Sure it might be a lot of work, but I never see that as a reason to not do something. Especially with the copy/paste route it would likely take. And they could release familiars in batches, maybe do a coli venue at a time, or a set of fest familiars at a time. Doesn't have to be all at once!
This would for sure make familiars worth the investment for me, since they wouldn't feel so useless once they're awakened.

Not to mention that IF it really is made as an apparel, then it can be another treasure sink-tho I don't really see it as something very expensive on the market OR the AH...Maybe around 1000t or 10g? And yeah,I can imagine glided chests having that kind of apparel piece.

Support, because it seems like a nice idea and letting your dragon be closer to its familiar would be cute.

I'm not at all sure how feasible this is but I love the idea so much it's a no brainer: support!

Also @nonisland or anyone who knows, what is that blue creature on the right hand side furthest up? I've never seen one of those!

support but what about bigger fams like the rat bosses whales, and Hydras I have a feeling they would be bigger than the square image which would lead to some trouble
