TOPIC | in-game advertisement banner/page
i was lookin at that banner above my username (where it says who has dom and theme week stuff) and thought of something. how about a cycling advertisement banner? to be specific, just a little one-line banner, maybe a little longer than that one, that players could purchase an advertisement for anything in-game. it could be like, in the red bar at the top of the page, or at the very top right next to the original banner. players can ONLY make the ad link to a forum post or their lair (like a sales tab) obvs it would need people to moderate it just like skins to be sure people aren't doin bad with it. it could cost, say... 1.5kg to put an ad up? and it's to staff/the game, not a player. a person could advertise something like an xxy gen1 auction, or a lair purge. maybe they could even attach a small fr emoji like the little icons on the small banner up there. examples for ads: "[emoji=eliminate size=1] Selling level 25s with eliminates! (@/fakeusername)" "[emoji=eternal youth size=1] The Generic Name Hatchery! (@/madlad)" "[emoji=dice 2 size=1] Shadow Dom OOF Raffle! (@/shadowbro)" "[emoji=bestiary size=1] Quest to collect all familiars! 289/761 (@/Natsucci)" "[emoji=money bag size=1] [24 Hour Auction] Swamp/Swamp/Eldritch Unbred Gen1 (@/andioop)" "[emoji=cauldron size=1] Baldwin melting service [OPEN] (@/oceanman)" (sorry if i used your username lol) what are yalls thoughts? question/concerns or criticisms? ty for reading this far! to be specific, just a little one-line banner, maybe a little longer than that one, that players could purchase an advertisement for anything in-game.

obvs it would need people to moderate it just like skins to be sure people aren't doin bad with it.

examples for ads:

" Selling level 25s with eliminates! (@/fakeusername)"
" The Generic Name Hatchery! (@/madlad)"
" Shadow Dom OOF Raffle! (@/shadowbro)"
" Quest to collect all familiars! 289/761 (@/Natsucci)"
" [24 Hour Auction] Swamp/Swamp/Eldritch Unbred Gen1 (@/andioop)"
" Baldwin melting service [OPEN] (@/oceanman)"

(sorry if i used your username lol)

Eh, I’m gonna say no support on this one. It seems like a good idea in theory, but I feel like it’d just end up being a cluttered mess ^^; besides, does anyone actually look at that thing besides to see who has Dom (which is always one of the first things anyway)?

Does anyone look at it? Meh, not me when half of it is out of date and the rest is links I've learned, but for a newbie I'm sure it helps a bit. Some of the messages are a bit redundant too since the addition of the Which Waystone.

If it only directs to FR pages, and maybe some additional rule restricting offsite links to whatever is linked to, I think it's an interesting idea. I doubt I would make use of it, but I know people would.

I'll guess that 1.5k gems is too low a price for it unless we're talking only a day or few, because I doubt the admins want to totally swamp some of messages they want there.

Might as well add that someone is going to be concerned about harassment, so maybe only allow linking to your own content.

I'd rather have the banner strictly for game news as it is now, although besides dom, I don't think it stays updated anyway. We have specific forums for almost every type of service, so players have avenues of finding ads that are easier than a temporary appearance in a scrolling banner.

No support.

The small rolling banner is well, small :/ it's already so hard to even remember looking at it because if it's minuscule size that wasting 1.5kg on it seems like an ripoff for me personally.

It's also not kept up to date at all and serves as an general "tips" bar mostly, so imagine having an G1 for sale on it for example, that G1 sells fast but the ad stays up for god knows how long until removed and possibly causing you/the new owner to keep getting messages about it.

We already have our free signature box to use as ad space, that's the way I find many good deals/auctions personally at least ^^!

I would hate to think of how much something like this would need to be moderated (can you imagine what some people would try to put on something that is seen by everyone on site theoretically?) and honestly, I doubt it would generate much attention. Players who are looking for specific things already know where to search for those specific things. I just see this as becoming like ads on television where everyone claims to have the 'lowest, super best deals on WHATEVER YOU WANT!!!!!' and the buyer has to actually figure out whether or not that is true. For players selling specific stuff through the forums, they can already use their signatures to advertise their threads and deals, while players who sell through the AH already can have their items show up quick and easy to those who are interested by having their prices be the lowest on the AH. I have ads blocked for a reason (mainly because viruses, but also because I hate seeing dozens of ads for multiple things all competeing for my attention) and would hate that FR gave a way for ads to show up that would again compete for my attention. Next, I also agree I want that banner to be for game news only. I would also like it to be kept up to date, and perhaps cycled tips and other things through as well. Such as 'Don't forget to spend time with your familiars' or 'Do I smell something burning? Maybe you should check Baldwin' or things like that, a smaller version of the waystone that simply cycles little tips, combined with game news.
