TOPIC | Delayed Apparel Release 4 new breeds
1 2
Most of the issue with new breeds being released is the apparel backlog, which is why we have ancients now. What if they just released new breeds without apparel function and as they caught up they could just make little announcements that current sets were now available for the new breed to wear. When you'd click on the new breed to put on apparel, only the sets that the dragon can wear would show up, instead of the whole hoard.

I would definitely love having new breeds that could wear apparel eventually instead of waiting 3+ years between new breeds that aren't ancient. I do love ancient dragons, though!

To help prevent newbies from asking why their dragons can't wear new clothes, maybe have a little message on the apparel page on WIP breeds that Sornieth's tailors are hard at work designing clothes that fit the newest breeds.

The majority of users of FR are fairly known for disliking when things are released unfinished or not completely thought through. This can be found pretty easily if you know where to look. Examples: Genes being rushed out that aren't completely clean, resulting in errors. Features and items being added which later have to be undated because they forgot something. Or one that pertains to this example. Ancients were stated to never be getting apparel and there are still people that are asking for gaolers to have apparel.

So, on to this suggestion. No support. This has been mentioned before and the general consensus was that people would rather wait to have a fully completed breed with all the bells and whistles, rather than having one that's only partially finished and having to wait god knows how long before they can use their favorite apparel on said breed. And if they intend to give the new breed apparel, overall it would be a better idea for them to wait to release it. That way efforts can be focused and items or errors won't slip through the cracks.

We can be patient so that things can be done right.

But then the backlog would still exist. It would just be fiddly bits of apparel instead of breeds.

It wouldn't solve anything.

Release a breed with half the apparel, trickle it in... and then release another breed with no apparel, with half of the first breed's still not done... nothing is really fixed. We'll just end up with breeds with no apparel.

Which we have with the Ancients. The compromise. Except there's no waiting around for bits of apparel to come out.

I don't see the point in this.

UK time. Sorry for timezone-related delays in responses. They/Them.
The problem is that doing it this way means that there will just be more and more apparel that is part of the 'back log' needed to be completed.

Not to mention, how do they choose which apparel? the oldest, the newest? just the bits they don't want to draw? It gets very complicated for players trying to figure out what is useable on what breed and what isn't.

I don't want to be unable to use apparel on a dragon that's supposed to have apparel. I'd be really disappointed if apparel I really liked wasn't able to be used on a dragon for months. Especially since they release new apparel fairly often.

We have ancients for a reason.

No support here either, sorry.

I see this suggestion leads to apparel backlog increase exponentially that they'll never catch up. And super confusion to everyone that apparel group A works for dragons X, Y, Z but not S or T, and group B works for X, S, T but not Y or Z.... and it's only going to get more complicated over time.

i don't think this could work because i'm sure a lot goes into designing a new breed, and one of those things is making sure all available apparel works on them, which i imagine they do by drawing the apparel

what happens if they release a new breed before testing out all the apparel, then as they're releasing apparel the breed can wear, they discover that some existing pieces simply don't work well on the breed? then we'll have dragons that look really bad in some apparel sets, or worse, that apparel isn't available at all. then we'll have a bunch of breeds that can't wear seemingly random types of clothing. i think we'd all find that frusterating.

i think it's best the way it is, i'd rather the artists take their time to assure best quality than release something half-done and possibly problematic
