Originally "Who Bought Your Auction (Discretionary)"
So, I have an idea about how people buy items from the Auction House on FR.
New Idea:
In your AH history, the name of the person you bought an item from should be available. This would be helpful in that, if they mispriced and item, and you wanted to reach out to them about it, you could know who you bought it from. Sometimes things on the AH happen far too quickly, especially in the cases of snagging a cheap mispriced item, and there won't be enough time or in-the-moment thought to note down the seller's username. It also could just generally be useful if the buyer has any later questions about the item or dragon which they bought.
This feature would be easy to implement and not in the way!
Old Idea Etc.:
Typically, when someone buys an item from you, you do not know who necessarily bought your item. This is a very good thing--because people who buy items definitely do not want to be pestered by the seller that there was some auctioning mistake, that they want their item back, or etc.
[s]However, I feel like there could be an option, like a check box, where a player who buys items on the Auction House can choose whether or not their username is linked to their purchase. For example, when an item is sold, the information it could additionally include to the seller (if that player who bought the item did check that box) would read something like:
"This item was purchased by @"Username", who has agreed to display their username in case you have any questions or concerns about your transaction. If you feel like there was an issue, you may politely contact them, but may not harass them. You may click here for Flight Rising's policy on Harassment."
[s]Personally, I would see myself as someone willing to list my username with having purchased an item. If someone really made a mistake, I'd be okay with helping them rectify it, even at my own expense.
Additionally, when I'm curious about who bought my items, sometimes it's in a very general interest where I want to know what type of profile/lair I would like to appeal my items to, such as if my dragon was sold to an exalt lair or information like that which might be broadcast on a player's user page.
(Also, if you think about dragons specifically, you can still search for a dragon you sold using dragon search to find out what account it has ended up in. It's just generally with items, especially with things like materials, that this information is not available.)
The check box, like I said, would be completely optional. I'm still not sure necessarily where it would be, but I'm thinking that it would appear every time you are asked to confirm your purchase. The check box wouldn't be a required question, so if you don't check anything, it would automatically be assumed that you don't want your username included with the purchase to the seller. There wouldn't necessarily be an extra step to take, and possibly, you could save your answer similarly to how making multiple auctions of one item saves your input for what quantity/cost you want for it each time (with the little lightning bolt), so it's a saved answer for convenience but you can still change your answer at any time.[/s]
Any thoughts on my idea? Does it seem useless? I understand it's a bit nuanced, but I think it could benefit seller-buyer communication a lot.

No support, I feel like people would be pressured to turn it on and refusing to do so would be "shady."
Also I would rather not have to look through extra information in my notifications.

Well, as far as it being "shady," such shadiness would never be linked to a player because they did not include their username. Even if the buyer would decide to view it that way (as shady), the player would never be able to be considered shady, if that makes any sense, because there is no attached username. The entire thing is more just like a way to open a channel, very optionally, to the seller you bought an item from.
Would it work if the check box question was in a smaller font with the confirmation? I can see what you mean about clutter, but I'm not sure where else the box should be put. Possibly somewhere in an Auction setting, so people who just want to buy an item don't have to know or care about it, and only those who want to take the extra step can go check it off, but again, to certain people I think it could be helpful.

I feel as though there would still be countless threads about threatening to block anyone who refuses to use the future or threads commenting on how shady it is that even if it's not linked is still pretty frustrating.
I feel it would be best to keep the auction house as anonymous as possible.

No support.
I see too many problems with the seller knowing who buys the item, even if the thing is opt in, that I don't think even a toggleable version is a good idea.
I don't really think it would be seen as shady but I could definitely see problems: someone turns it on for dragons, and suddenly snipes a mispriced item. Theseller now knows who to contact to try to get the item back. Sure it is against the rules, but that doesn't mean the seller can't go offsite to post that player's name all over.
Or, a new player turns it on, and then forgets it. Later on, they decide that exalting is king and they want to make money, so they start buying and exalting dragons. However, they never turned off the visibility so every person they bought from now knows who bought that dragon and exalted it unnamed/at all.
There is too much risk for way to little gain in my opinion

I wouldn’t mind if the buyer of an item/dragon saw the seller’s name but not the reverse as all that would do is just lead to harassment

I do definitely see your point... But on the topic of dragons specifically, again, if you buy or sell dragons, the person can still use dragon search. A person who misprices a dragon and wants to find out who bought it can already search for the dragon and find who's lair it is in. It's an interesting problem but that's already present on the site in consideration to dragon sales specifically.

Doglover287915
Again, though, it wouldn't make sense to threaten blocking people who don't show their username, because you literally wouldn't be able to know who is and isn't showing their username. I'm being a bit confusing maybe?

I understand harassment is the complete, main issue of why something like buyer names isn't already a thing. I'm just wondering if there's a way we could circumvent harassment through a type of reinforcement that the feature exists out of a kindness/willingness-to-help on the buyer's part, not a calling to be harassed. But I completely get what you mean. :)

Having the sellers name would make it easier for people to return misprinted items if they wish, having the buyers name listed (even if it’s opt in) would just lead to harassment even if there were warnings against it (as harassment is already against the rules and yet it still happens)
In the case of dragons and exalting- in many cases, the seller wouldn’t see a who bought the dragon before it was exalted unless they were on at the time of purchase as many exalters don’t keep them around long (just long enough to train and exalt which is generally 5-10 minutes max)

I wasn't talking about dragons (though I realize it could sound like that) I am thinking more of they were in the AH to buy dragons, clicked on the wrong link (I do it all the time) and perhaps saw a new auction that had a high priced item priced for very cheap, so they quickly buy it.
This person wanted the seller to know who bought their dragons, (for any number of reasons, but perhaps they are an exalting lair, so they want to allow players who might like the dragons back the ability to find them easier than going through dragon search), but forgot they had it on when they saw the mispriced item and snatched it up. Suddenly the seller knows who bought that item, and even if they can't harass the person directly, there are multiple ways to harass them indirectly:
Posting on offsite pages with the user name, so that other players can message them to return the item, or having everyone they can block that person, which impacts that person's ability to use the AH. If that person also has shops where they are trying to sell things, whether dragons or art or skins, a user, especially if it were a better known one, could get a lot of other people upset that this 'mean person won't return an OBVIOUS misprice' and that impacts their ability to sell their stuff.
Perhaps they weren't buying dragons, but maybe eggs, so they wanted the people to know in case that person wanted to check up on what the eggs hatched (I have often wondered about the eggs I sell). Then they spot a mispriced egg and snatch it up.
As said, I just don't feel that the potential for harm this might have outweighs the little benefit it would be to me, the seller, to know who buys my items. Honestly, outside of curiosity, which is, at least in my opinion, not a good enough reason to implement this, mispricing of items is really the only reason to have something like this.

It seems like the entire problem with my idea is that the likelihood for harassment would be increased. I'm really not trying to create any problems, but I was trying to think of a better way for communication between AH transactions.
For example, yesterday I bought a quantity of materials which I think could have been either
a) mispriced
or
b) the person just wanted it out of their lair and didn't know it's worth.
It wasn't even a large misprice, but still, I did buy it. Probably, admittedly, someone would have. However, I would be perfectly open to the seller contacting me politely to address the issue. Maybe even they had a really hard day and didn't look at it close enough, maybe this person has a visual disability of some kind, and I'd be very happy in those cases to help that person out. Yes, this is an online dragon game and not all that serious, but I'm open to gestures like this.
It just doesn't seem like something like this can happen between players, in a benevolent way, when there is completely, 100%, never an opportunity for a seller to know who bought an item (again, discretionarily). I guess the buyer could go the extra mile to PM the seller that they bought an item from them, and that possibly it was mispriced, and that the buyer would be open to reconsideration, but that seems more like it's making a problem out of nothing by addressing it. It also would never happen because that would be at the financial harm of the buyer. Also, maybe the seller really doesn't care, or is bothered by messages from strangers like that.
Anyway, if anyone has new ideas on what I said, I'd also really like to hear those. Clearly mine is a bust.
