TOPIC | Bring back two-letter names.

This seems like a bizarre restriction. Theres a lot of legitimate two letter names like Io, Ra, Yu, Ai, AJ, Bo. The list goes on! Right now if I wanted to get one of these dragons, I'd have to spend upwards up 3000 gems in an auction or just hope a returning player doesn't know what they've got and lists it for sale. Ridiculous.

Full support, I'm not a fan of character limits creating naming restrictions like this.

As long as the reason it was changed isn't technically important, yeah. I never really got why 2 letter names could be a problem, although I suppose it could pad out search results to an unreasonable level, but that's all I can think of. Seems like it would make more sense to constrain the search to exact terms only or something.

So, yeah, it'd be nice as long as it's not a problem with the site backend.

As much as I'd love to support this, I'm gonna have to say no support for two reasons:

A.) While it wouldn't be too hard to manage code wise, two-letter names were never intended in the first place, it's just that an accident occured with the coding. As mentioned above, it could be due to Search reasons.

B.) It's going to cause a lot of distress to collectors, since the glitch has been publicly fixed. People sometimes spend big money on these dragons due to their newfound collectibility, so having that stripped away would make players angry.

I agree. And why not one letter names too? For example, X could refer to Prof X. N could be the character from Pokemon. And then there's L from Death Note.

If writers are supposed to "show not tell," why are we called "storytellers" and not "storyshow-ers"?
Don't understand why there was ever a limit on characters. Support.

Gonna reply at you @SpaceSnakes for some added discussion :>

A.) I don't think its unintentional nature should be any sort of knock against it! Sure it wasn't meant to be there, but this isn't a glitch that actively harms the mechanics of the game like an infertile dragon. If players utilized and enjoyed 2-letter names, why take that away from them? Decisions about the nature of the game should be dictated by the community as a whole.

B.) As someone who's also interested in dropping an arm and a leg on one of these dragons, their price dropping rapidly is a possibility I'm fully prepared for. This change would also allow more casual players to have a chance at owning these! It makes far more sense to have a select few take the loss and let that world of possibility open up for all players. I don't think anyone who can afford these dragons is at risk of going poor.

TLDR; Where my two-letters at!?

Support! There's a whole interesting world of unique two-letter names, historically, and to be made, and I'd love to be able to give my dragons two-letter names without selling a kidney to buy a new dragon. I'm sure it would upset people, every single update and change on this site seems to, but I think a lot more people would be happy about dropping the restriction in the end.

To solve the searching issue, perhaps a "restrict to what I typed ONLY" option for the name field? So Io won't always bring up every name with those letters together, and vice versa. A lot of sites' search features already have this option, it shouldn't be too difficult to add.

I don't really care one way or the other, if they allow two letter names, great, but if there is a reason behind why two letter names aren't good for the site, I am not going to be sad.

However, I want to reply to the 'people who bought two letter 'glitch' dragons might be angry'.

This is not a very good argument to me, because then the admins should never have given out two eliminates to the userbase. That DID make some users angry, both because they bought eliminates right before they were given out and because they were selling eliminates (two different theys).

They shouldn't have unretired items, because that was a huge topic of debate before Roundsey with players on both sides getting angry about it one way or another. Yet, we now have roundsey that can give retired items.

Things devaluing is simply a fact for games. (and real life). Sometimes the item you have just grows in value, if people decide it is worth it, other times it shrinks in value.

Things change. Sometimes that means a particular item grows in value, such as two letter named dragons when the glitch was fixed. However, that also means that sometimes things lose their value, like when eliminate was given out for free.

This also reminds me of the scattervial debate, where poeple were saying that the scattervial can't be unretired because it would mean people who bought them for inflated prices would be upset.

Players who buy objects whose price reflects a subjective nature (sorry can't think of how to better phrase it right now) need to realize that that nature could easily change, sometimes for the better, sometimes for the worse.

This includes things such as Two letter names, something being retired, or anything else that can change without the user's input or consent. They run the risk of losing their investment in those objects.

So, if two letter names are allowed again, yes some people will be angry, some people will lose investments they put in dragons with such names and so on, but again that is the nature of games and life. When change happens, some people are happy, others are unhappy.
