Sometimes I'm not able to be on for a bit, but I'll get back to see my meter has dropped to 78%, and I go and feed my dragons and I'm good. I'll check the next cycle, and my gathering turns have gone to 10 instead of the normal 15. I fed them before the cycle started, so it shouldn't have taken it away, and I'm annoyed by it really, I get if it drops after the next cycle but if you get it gets started again.

Boo!
Did I scare you?
It sounds like the function is working as intended, though. If your bar drops below 80% at any time, you lose the bonus gathering turns because you lose your well rested bonus for the next 3 days*, even if you feed them the second it hits 78%
*Assuming you go on to keep your clan above 80% for the next three days

You need to keep it above 80% for 3 consecutive days. If it drops below 80% at all you lose your bonus. Sounds like it's working as intended?

I think there should be a grace period, at least. My lair never hits 80%, so I always have to feed it at 84% or 82%, which means I'm losing the bonus if I don't catch the few hours it takes to drop. And it's not a matter of not having the food to feed them, it's just happening to not check the website on the small window of time it'd drop below (which isn't difficult considering how quickly the bar drops).
So I think it'd be nice if it didn't drop until after a couple of hours or until rollover or something. Maybe with a warning?

I feel like there already is a grace period? 80% takes a few days, and you can see your dragons' hunger dropping all the while. You don't have to wait for 84% to feed... feed at 96%, or 94, or even 88. It's not the end of the world if you lose the bonus, either; you just have to feed your dragons again and it'll come back in a few days. It's three gems, 750 treasure, and 15 gathering turns you're missing out on before it comes back online. That's not really a lot of opportunity cost whenever there's a vacation or an unexpected internet outage.
Mostly... the purpose of this function is to get people to play Flight Rising more often. Even if it's just logging in to feed your dragons, that's page loads and ad revenue, with the hopes that once you're on the site, you'll do more things, load more pages, and generate more revenue. So I don't support anything that makes this bonus more applicable. You shouldn't view it as a default, because it isn't; it's a bonus for activity.

Sounds like the system is working as intended.
10 is actually the default number of gathering turns. You get 5 extra turns, bumping the number up to 15, as a reward for keeping your lair's energy level above 80% so if you let your dragons' energy drop below 80, you'll lose those 5 bonus turns.

You need to be above 80% to get the bonuses.
You can't technically lose bonuses already earned for a day because they're awarded at midnight, so if you start your day at 80%, and dip at 8AM to 78%, you won't lose your bonus. You earned it.
However, you need to go back to three days at over 80% and over to get it again. It's the way it's meant to work

10 turns is normal, 15 is the amount you get if you keep your dragons well fed. If you keep your energy above 80% for three consecutive days, you will receive bonuses. If you are at 78% you dropped below the threshold so when bonuses are calculated at rollover you’ll loose your bonus and it will take you three days to earn it it again

I think the only time we'd need a grace period is when we're removing dragons from the hibden or buying dragons from the AH. Hibden a little less worried about since it warns you about sending dragons with low energy, but if you have a really small lair and buy a dragon with 0 energy it isn't really fair to lose your bonus because that dragon entered your lair and brought down the average.

I would like to see a grace period implemented, for the ongoing issue of unfed dragons on the AH. As pokemonbutch pointed out small lairs or lairs temporarily hovering in the 82-86% range can easily lose their bonus just from buying fodder in the current system. Having it only check for the bonus at the feeding times would allow small lairs to have to watch much less closely while buying fodder. Yes, if people aren't feeding their dragons they shouldn't get the bonus, but there would be very little harm done by giving people a few hours grace period.
