TOPIC | Pin Familiars in Flattery

The only familiars I will be completely unable to obtain ever are the KS and Boolean familiars. All the others, I'll get them eventually as a guarantee. This has been pretty representative of my daily Flattery. Half are familiars that are already paired on a dragon, (So I'd either click it on Flattery or on the dragon itself when I go through them, so it's kinda of a waste?), and one is already awakened. I'd really like to be able to focus on familiars that I don't have. The first day FF came out I got the Skycat and Cog Frog in my listings, then a repeat the day after and now it's been pretty infrequent since the GW update and the recolors being in the mix now. I don't mind getting familiars that are on the "to get" list in Flattery, but I'd really prefer it focuses solely on the familiars I have in no form, not the ones tucked into the hoard/vault, OR that I be allowed to pin at least half-of the results for Familiars I'd like to focus on.

I think that you should be able to pin one familiar, but everything retired including the ones that are ridiculously cheap like Slight Eyewing should be offlimit.

So no, people shouldn't be able to just go and pin Boolean to bond with it daily.

Prior to the Spring Sphinx being added to the bestiary, there were only three familiars I hadn't obtained and/or awakened (Boolean, Cog Frog, and Cracked Crystal), and Fiona gave me all three every day. Now with the Sphinx, I only get three out of the four. In both cases, there were also two randoms I've already awakened, plus three that I've obtained but not awakened. So I think the distribution is intentional.

Because if you want to be sure to awaken a familiar, your priority should be to buy it.
I think being able to pin one familiar sounds great. However, to pin a familiar you should get it via Fiona, and you can't take the pin off until after it's awakened (to avoid people getting lots of rusted chests very fast). However, I think retired familiars should be included too - otherwise the feature would be useless for those who have gathered all the available familiars.
Because if you want to be sure to awaken a familiar, your priority should be to buy it.
Most collectors won't be able to buy booleans and KS fams - not just because of the price but also because there simply aren't enough of them for everyone. There are less than 200 bools in existence, I believe? And only a couple at most are being sold every year. If the retired familiars aren't included, there is no need for a pin. Any other familiar can be obtained and bonded on a dragon, they may be hard to get (hi, delver...) but still technically unlimited.

I definitely think we should be able to pin retired familiars. If we have to shoehorn "challenge" into it for some reason, then a player gets to check Fiona every day until the familiar(s) they want to pin show up. After that is's no different than only checking familiars on a given set of dragons. I seriously do not do the 800 something familiars I own. Just the 30 on active dragons I have at a time.

When kicking around values people generally say "800kg" if they're buying/saving up to make an offer.

People selling Booleans generally start by saying "whatever I want" and settle for the most people can bid/create or go back into hiding to wait for people to earn more.

That led to the most recent Boolean auction, in 2018.

February 2018 Auction

This Boolean sold at 860kg.

If this were instituted, literally everybody would use it to bond only with KS/retired familiars. There'd be almost no point to including any other familiars in her pool. Those are there specifically SO people can't just easily bond with a KS or retired familiar as if they own it, in addition to giving people with large amounts of Unawakened familiars an extra leg up on bonding with them if they have smaller lairs.

Fiona isn't meant to replace proper familiar bonding and collecting.

"You should buy it" absolutely doesn't overlook the purpose of Fiona. The site absolutely wants players to continue buying/trading/selling familiars as part of the economy. Making it so that players can basically Awaken ANY familiar they want (but especially KS/Retired familiars) without actually owning it would completely defeat the purpose of owning familiars at all short of having a fancy background in your bestiary. And familiars are an important if supplementary part of FR economy.

So no support. I can't even really support being able to pin one "Favorite" familiar because it's basically giving you a free familiar to consistently bond with outside of the ones assigned to your dragons and again, most players would prioritize retired/KS/otherwise expensive familiars given the choice.

It only takes 80?-ish days to fully bond with a familiar. There are currently 16 (give or take; 5 KS + 11 Sprites) truly difficult to obtain familiars and given Fiona has 8 spaces, it would take even the average bonder about half a year to bond with all of them, thus rendering Fiona mostly useless.

Fiona is only meant to offer a CHANCE to bond with rare/hard-to-obtain familiars. Not a guarantee.

What you're seeing should be expected for someone who has—and has bonded with—so many familiars. Grats to you! It's quite the selection! But you should be expected to wait out the same odds as anybody else.
