Flight rising has been good in the past with giving trans rep (Scribbles and Fiona), but the recent addition of the gender markers to the icons underneath their energy bars is a step back. I am nonbinary. I use they/them pronouns. I know that the gender markers have always been around, but the recent update made me notice it for the first time.
Instead of getting rid of the gender markers completely (I understand the reasoning of them), I would suggest making them customizable. Add in a "Ø" for nonbinary and allow the user to change the marker as they like. This of course wouldn't change the sex or assigned gender of what the dragon was hatched as, but would be useful for roleplay and lore reasons.
The markers in the top right corner of the dragon icons in the lair/hibernal den page could stay the same, the actual markers of the sex the dragon is and what they breed as. But for the markers underneath the energy bar, it would be nice to make those customizable and representative of gender. Gender =/= sex. As silly as it may be, I would love to be able to show off that I have trans and nonbinary dragons without solely relying on my lore or having a gender marker almost discredit it. Poses would also be locked to further indicate what the dragon was born as.
In addition, to avoid confusing/scamming other users by changing the gender marker to male/female when their sex doesn't match up, perhaps it can be a locked option such as having a familiar. You can't sell/trade a dragon when you have their gender marker customized.

Ooooh, this is the first practical suggestion for "officially" trans dragons that I've seen! I like it!
Especially with the caveat that changing the marker locks the dragon like apparel/familiar, that would have been my only qualm.
The gender symbols were always there in the icon bar but the new ones really are more obtrusive-- I can understand getting rid of the blue/pink stereotype, but I think being gray is what's making them stand out next to the elemental symbol.

That may be why I only barely took notice! It is nice that they removed the blue/pink stereotype, but it definitely ending up drawing my attention to it.
I hadn't thought of the marker locking the dragon until a friend brought it up, and it definitely makes sense! I don't want to aid in any scams that may happen xd

I think as long as the dragon was locked, it would be fine.
Not only could it be used in scams, for new players or people who aren't familiar with new dragons, but I could also see issues where players set a custom gender marker, sell the dragon, and the new owner resets it to male/female, or completely ignores it in their lore, because they bought the dragon because of the colors or genes or breed or whatever.

I'd definitely make use of a feature like this.

This would be neat! I'm already thrilled that they've minimized mention of the dragon's sex on the page itself (rip my trans dragons when it was in big letters under the name), but the option to change the symbol would be fantastic on top.

squid/winter | FR+3 | they/them | spelled squidra-gon (like octagon)
Support! Having a wide array of gender symbols to choose from would be amazing, and locking the dragon after customizing the gender symbol could definitely help prevent scamming.

The markers are indicators of a dragon’s sex, not their identity. Personally I don’t wanna see the same mess that Furvilla has, because that just makes the whole thing feel like a joke.

This is how I feel about it... It's a mechanics thing, not a lore thing.
If we did get this, though, the dragon would have to be locked from trading or selling.

I did mention in my second post on this page that it would be a locked thing like with apparel and familiars! Both of you make very good points on the matter.
