TOPIC | Re-add male/female to Attribute box
1 2 3 4 5 6 7 ... 16 17
I know this probably won't be a popular suggestion, and I wasn't going make it because for the most part, the dragons have different poses, and even with new ones, after a while you learn to recognize them by those poses. My suggestion: Add Male/female to the physical characteristics box, and put it with the breed, so Jain would be Male Mirror. Edit: Just for clarification, I am talking about the box with the gene and breed and size information, not just under the dragon name. I had actually forgotten that the breed shows up there as well, so I thought it would be obvious I was talking in that particular box. Edit II: Thanks to Foa for this image. This is exactly what I had in mind when I created this thread. Reasoning? I am one who hates pictographs. I can never remember what each little icon means, and I hate having to find the little icon and hover over it to find out. I can also never remember which gender symbol is which. It would help me immensely if I could have the dragon's sex (according to the site) on the physical attributes box. The reason why I decided to make this thread at all? Hatchlings. As I said, most of the time you can tell the different sexes by pose, and even with new breeds, it is only a matter of time before you learn which is which. But hatchlings only have one pose, so if I go through any hatchlings I may hatch/buy, I have to remember each and every time what that little symbol means, instead of being able to just scroll down and see what sex the hatchling is, along with the colors and genes and eye type it has. This is going to be annoying to me, because that is usually one of the things I check for when I do hatch any dragons.

I believe screen readers are easier to use with pure text? Someone who has knowledge of screen readers can correct me but as I understand it, image/emoji heavy texts are troublesome to parse. So for general accessibility reasons, I can support wanting the sex of the dragon to be displayed somewhere in plain text.

I was really against the original version of this blurb gendering the dragons, but since it's editable now, I don't have a problem with the default blurb text listing the dragon's sex.

Now I just said I'm okay with this but a counter argument that I think is fair- you can mouse over the mars/venus symbols for it to display a tooltip that shows textual indication of the gender. If screen readers are able to read these tooltips without a problem, the suggested change might not be necessary at all.

I was about to say absolutely no support to adding it back under the dragon's name because that's super obnoxious, but Jemadar is actually suggesting adding it to the "Physical Attribute" module below the dragon, yes? That seems reasonable, especially in the same line as "Hatchling/Adult" where it'll be small and tucked in with other breeding info, but easy to locate if you want it.

Edit: @/Foa below has mocked up exactly what I'm thinking.
Yeah, this is what I was suggesting. Sorry if it sounded like I meant re-add it to where the broadcast message goes. I will make that clearer in the first post. (I had actually forgotten that the message under the name was along the lines of Level X *breed*)

I'm absolutely for this. Something like what we had before with it written in the stats box or whatever would be very helpful to me.

I 100% support this. Please add this back. I need this data for my extensive database of dragon details :( I've actually been rather bummed since this morning when I realized that this piece of important data was no longer present as text. At this time I've updated my copy/paste importer to include this as a manually entered field, but depending on how many dragons I add each day, ends up possibly introducing manual entry errors in my data. Not only with mis-clicks, but also with mis-reading. Like the OP stated it is easy to overlook if that hatchling, which looks exactly like all of the other hatchlings for the daily nest was Male or Female. With the previous update, and the original layout, it was a simple 100% accurate way to collect the data about the dragon. I think that in the Physical Attributes area this is an appropriate, unobtrusive way to display this detail as plain text. For example...

It’s not front and center, but it’s still screen-reader friendly, and it’s also a more foolproof way to check whether a hatchling is male or female. Sex is unimportant for lore, but it still matters when you’re buying dragons for a breeding project.

Yeah, I think I support this one. While it is really nice for lore purposes to not actually have the words "male/female" anywhere on the profile, it's definitely less user friendly for actual mechanical breeding game purposes.

I personally could do without it and do kinda like it not being there, but I can easily see how screen readers or people who just have trouble keeping track of symbols would have issues. And as already mentioned earlier in the thread, it also makes copy/pasting dragon data more difficult. I think the physical attributes section is small enough that it's pretty unobtrusive, and the fact that the section can be hidden is another way to tuck it out of sight. This would be a good place for it and I wouldn't mind seeing it added back.
