when looking for accents for my dragon, i almost always have specific themes in mind, and it can be very time-consuming finding already existing accents with those themes on the AH or database. right now, your best bet is to ask around on the forums.
my idea is a new tagging feature with skins and accents, similar to the GASP pinglist, that will allow users to easily find existing accents with certain themes on the AH and/or game database. UMAs are a huge part of FR's market, and with sooo many of them at this point, i think an efficient organizing system is due.
when submitting an accent, the artist can also choose from a list possible tags, such as: bright colors, dark colors, rainbows, creepy, nature, silks, jewelry, gold, pastels, etc etc. during review, mods can edit these tags as necessary to ensure their accuracy. then, when searching on the auction house and/or game database, there can be a dropdown of those tags to filter search results.
there is the question of how this will affect previous accents; that's the part i'm not too sure of? on one hand, the devs going through every UMA ever created and tagging the notable themes or elements would be a major pain and, arguably, isn't the most efficient use of time. however, if it was left up to the artist to go into the S&A problems forum and request tag changes, the efficiency of this idea would drastically decrease as many artists are either inactive or won't care if their old accents are tagged or not. honestly, i sort of figure if the devs can go through the trouble of sorting all skins by artist and color, a tagging system wouldn't be too out of the question.
of course, other ideas on how existing skins would be affected are welcome :>
here's a little mockup to show what i have in mind

edit: good points about people abusing the system.. that's why i mentioned that the reviewers could edit the tags to make sure they actually describe the skin, but perhaps they should be up to the reviewers entirely :0

I'd love this, but I think there should be a cap on how many tags can be used (to avoid abuse of a tag system) OR let the tagging be completely up to the skin devs that look them over :D
I also think this would be VERY useful for skins/accents with potential triggers (insects, body horror etc.)
Hopefully if this were implemented I would have a way to go back and choose tags on already-existing accents

This has come up before and the part about having users apply tags is always the sticking point. People frequently have less than helpful motives like wanting to get as many people looking at their item for sale (all the tags) or just being a jerk (all the tags or completely wrong tags).
Additionally the definition of emotional tags like "creepy" is highly dependent on the person doing the tagging. Outside of an actual physical description like flowers/stars/animal companions it's very subjective and not helpful. Even what seems like easily defined terms (pastels for example) would need a defined list of what qualifies at which point players might as well just use the color match instead since not everyone has the same definition for pastel/bright/dark/etc.
I'd support a system where the admins tag based on a physical description and creator artists can suggest appropriate tags to new/old artwork they've done.

I want to live in Theory. Everything works there.
Have you checked the
Gem MP for Gene and Breed scrolls before buying an AH listing from me ending in
5g?
I'd like this too, but I don't want skins to take even longer to process from admins having to figure out all the tags to apply, either.
I do like this though.. kind of like... a site-implemented GASP... that works on old stuff too...
If i can just check stuff off like in GASP that would be pretty neat.
I'm sure people would abuse the tags, maybe that could be reported? that would probably take less time from the mods than having to tag everything themselves.

i like the idea, my concern would be people abusing the system so more people see their skin (think people adding 30 completely unrelated but popular tags to instagram posts). it could be super useful but that's dependent on everyone following the rules. currently i just search by dragon breed/pose and colour and skim through the results and it works fine for me.

What if this worked by searching comments?
That way anyone could add tags, and it's free-form so people aren't limited to an admin-chosen list (ex. a dropdown may only show "flowers" as an option but with the space in comments you could specify with "flowers, roses" if someone wants to filter for specific flowers).
Abuse of the comments system is mitigated by the cooldown, and can be reported to get taken down.

I like that. I was thinking some way to add tags through the database page or comments could be interesting but i wondered if that would work with the current database setup.
I also like that anyone can tag any skin - so that old umas whos creators might have left don't get left out.
