I just changed my avatar for ROR and remembered how much white space shows up with some dragons and had a very big brain idea to fix it:
an (optional) feature to have the scene of a dragon show up in the avatar. it's pretty self explanatory, when using this feature, and assuming the dragon has a scene equipped, the white space would be replaced with the applicable part of the scene. this feature would obviously be optional for people who don't want the scene to show up in their avatar, but it's a small and pretty easy way to get rid of the white space in avatars for anyone annoyed by them.
people who experience sensory overload from scenes would also be umbothered by this change as even in the avatars with the most white space it's still a very small area. the scene could even be slightly faded, like the dragon profile outside of scenic mode but to a lesser degree.
it's really just a small cosmetic change, but I know myself and many other people find the white space in avis annoying and this could fix that. it would also make scenes relevant outside of just dragon profiles, albeit only for one dragon
Edit:
I created a mock up of the idea I was going for

Support, the white space doesn’t bother me too much but I know it does for other people. I want this or the ability to have the white space a different color

I get too many pings, please PM if you ping and I don’t respond
Support!!! Some of my dragons I'll NEVER use because of this white space issue! I'd love love if scenes appeared there!!
I support solid color backgrounds but not scenes or vistas in the background. Things already get busy with apparel, adding those would be way too cluttered.

no support. it would look incredibly busy, the white is there to give deffinition. however I'd love it if instead of solid white it was slightly transparent as to see the vista background. also this has been suggested recently theres a good thread about it!

I'd love to use scenes in avatars. The white in avatars isn't exactly there to give definition, else some dragon's silhouettes would have been drawn different (ie: a spiral male takes up nearly the whole avatar box, there is no white present). The white is simply there because of the absense of a dragon's silhouette. Unfortunately this means some dragon species/sexes DO look incredibly vacant as avatars and imo could benefit from having more going on, be it the presence of a scene (possibly at low transparency), a solid background, vista extension or anything else. I just greatly enjoy aesthetic feature updates.

support as long as it's toggleable! personally im not sure because of the busy-ness issue brought up by other users but as long as it's toggleable, nobody's forcing you to use it if you feel that way :P
i'd also love an option to make the avatar background transparent/less opaque so you can see the vista!

Support! The white space doesn't show up much for mine but if I ever change to a smaller dragon, it would be cool to fill all that negative space.

I would love this! I know that people are concerned about the icon looking too busy with a scene, but I think your mockup shows how little visual clutter it would add to the icon.
I tested this with an f banescale (which I'm pretty sure has the most white space) and the scenes mostly looked like a solid color, sometimes with just an added bit of texture.
I would also support toggles for white backgrounds & solid color backgrounds, but I think having scenes as backgrounds adds a great bit of utility to them.

Oh I love this idea! I cant stand the white space, even if the vistas just continued in the background at a lower saturation would be nice, something that isnt just a solid block of color.
Whether or not the scene makes the avatar seem cluttered is entirely up to the user imo as they can already use cluttered dragons for avatars. Its literally no different, especially if it is optional.
Definitely agree with the mockup (looks gorgeous i want lol) and opacity/faded, simply because it would hardly be noticeable if they do it right, and make the dragon pop while allowing it to blend into the Vista for a more cohesive look.
Support for sure, excellent idea!
