TOPIC | Element hatching issues

As I have an ice clan atm, I hatch only ice element dragons. It makes no sense to me that a shadow and arcane can make an ice element dragons? Did the mother go off to see someone else, hm? It should be one of the parents elements! It makes hatcheries so much easier when people want all the elements except the one you can hatch.

Adding onto this because I forgot something and y’all’s replies want me to slap it here now-

A way to turn off the lore part? Some of us just wanna play and make our own lore (Heard from my friends who also play) so we can hatch the dragons with elements we wish c:

Hi, uh. Here, have this

The element of the hatchling depends on the nest, not either of the parents. In lore, the eggs absorb the magical energy of where they're incubated.

As someone with a hatchery, I would hate this. I send pairs off to nest in different elements because I want those eyes, and the parents don't necessarily have them. This would ruin a ton of my pairs because the parents don't have the eyes I need the hatchlings to have, and I have very specific color ranges that are very hard to breed for new parents of.

Flight isn't genetic, it's based on where hatchlings are born. The land is infused with the power of the deity in control there, and that power is partially absorbed into the hatchling dragons. Literally your flight's god is empowering your children, it's super metal.

Even ignoring lore, though, I'd just rather this not be the case. I like the consistency the current system allows, and while I'd sometimes like a way to get non-Nature hatchlings, I'd rather it be through something I control.

You're free to ignore lore whenever you like.

However, eye colour isn't just lore. It's a basic game mechanic. You get eye colour based on where your Lair is. If your lair is in the Plague territories, you get Plague eyes. If you're Water, you get Water. Ice, you're Ice.

I'd support a method of temporarily (for one breeding) changing the element of your nest, but I'd prefer it wasn't random, or based on parents.

It's literally one of the only real things (besides a slightly different wallpaper) that our Flight choice affects and it should remain that way.

Just imagine, what if all the red dragons are plague and according to your suggestion they can only breed plague (parents are plague), what can one do if they want a red dragon with green eyes? They'll be screwed! They'll need to find a nature dragon with redish colour first, but due to breeding for matching eyes there aren't any to choose from! Current system makes it easy - one can simply find a pair of red dragons and hire a nature nest, boom, red dragon with green eyes coming right up!

Also I agree with consistency. It doesn't matter about the site lore, but a breed mechanism should be consistent across the site, not each with their own rules.

This sounds more like it would cause problems rather than fix. With this system, you actually could get screwed over by having non-matchy eyes (or matchy eyes if you so prefer) but want the opposite. I know that I sometimes prefer to have eyes that don't match because that creates some cool outcomes that people might prefer. The current system is easy to predict and easy to get around, and I would like to keep it that way. With the proposed system, it's adding more randomness to the game that makes breeding more frustrating rather than less.

Why have flights if in the end, there isn't any difference?

I would like some mechanic that would let you use different element nests so that you could breed for different eyes. I suppose this is different from your suggestion though.
