TOPIC | Make the Coarsefur Yeti a real boss
1 2
So the Coarsefur Yeti is… weird. It’s been around as long as venues have, and it was the first ‘boss’ creature to ever be in the coli. The concept of bosses as we know them today was introduced much later, and by the new standards, the Yeti doesn’t fit; it’s in a limbo zone between boss and normal mob.

Here’s why the Coarsefur Yeti is a boss.
-It only appears one at a time, and rarely compared to other mobs in the venue.
-It’s stronger and has more HP than other mobs in the venue.
-It’s bigger than standard mobs.
-It’s an extremely rare familiar drop that doesn’t stock in the MP.
-Its drops have higher food points/treasure values than other mobs in the venue.

Here’s why the Coarsefur Yeti isn’t a proper boss.
-It can appear with other mobs (sometimes with a snowfall elk and sometimes with a poultrygeist.)
-It has much less HP than any other boss, even the ones from Blooming Grove – two or three scratches and an eliminate from a typical fodder trainer will kill it.
-It doesn’t have a counterpart.
-Its drops are much less reliable than other bosses’ – bosses nearly always drop their food and trinket, while the yeti drops its like a normal mob.
-Its drops don't scale with the creep of other bosses. (The Spotted Seal is 8 food points and 70t; Rainsong's and Crystal Pools' are both 13 food points and 375/380t.)

So yeah. While I’d definitely miss just how easy it is to take them out, I think it should be standardized and given another yeti friend, and Boreal Wood should have a true boss pair like a venue in its level range should. The way things are is convenient when you grind there, but it doesn't really make sense anymore.

I would prefer if there was a proper boss for the venue.

Other bosses don't have a Recolours available through different means, but the Yeti does. Two others.

I could go with it if one was found in the venue as another version of it (other venues have two bosses, obviously) and one was available through Fiona, but it's not the case.

They've been available for a while now, and putting one of those recolours into the coliseum would be unfair, since they're user-made recolours.

I don't think we need a fourth variation on the same familiar, either.

UK time. Sorry for timezone-related delays in responses. They/Them.
Yeah, like Greyjoy, I'd actually like a true boss, rather than make the Yeti a boss - we already have yeti recolors and they're...well, pretty cheap.

Just make a bigger yeti and we can pretend Coarsefur Yeti is calling his big brother to help fight the dragons that have been bullying him for years. <3

(Would prefer a proper boss like stated above. I like the piece of history the Yeti brings to the Coli.)

...Huh, I completely forgot that the Yeti has mp-available recolors. Yeah, that'd be a little strange to have a boss that has two other treasure marketplace recolors. I suppose it would be better to start from scratch.

Instead of making Yeti a boss, why not introduce new half-bosses to other venues?

TBH, one of the reasons why I like Boreal Wood is because the half-boss is faster to take down and doesn't slow me down the way a full boss does.

Places like Bamboo Falls and Woodland Path are a godsend during NOTN precisely because they don't have a boss. I know this may not be a popular suggestion, but I'd really like some places to be boss-free for the sake of grinding. It's not that I'm afraid of getting killed if I go to someplace like Redrock Cove or Waterway, it's that the bosses do slow you down and sometimes I just want to grind on autopilot. If we MUST have "more challenge" in a venue like Scorched Forest, I'd really rather it be one of those half-bosses.

no support, hate venues with bosses and esp ones that are melee which the yeti would almost certainly be. like others have said, bosses only slow down grinding.

I kind of like the yeti being special.

If anything, I’d prefer the other bosses to become ‘half-bosses’ :)

Personally I'd rather have less bosses as they tend to throw a wrench at anything I plan to do in the coli whether it's taking extra time while I'm grinding or proving a nuisance while leveling dragons. In venues without bosses/weaker sub-bosses it's nice to be able to just do your thing without the interruption.
