TOPIC | Leave cycled MP items or cycle them more

Hello everyone, this has been bothering me since the marketplace revamp has come out. What is the point of cycling out items now other than creating product scarcity. If it was due to cluttering up the marketplace then that issue has been solved because we can search for what we want much easier. I understand that Flight rising/ Stormlight Workshop is a business and they need money. But doing stuff like cycling in the gem marketplace items once a year is just frustrating from the player’s standpoint. Either they cycle in the items more often like doing weeklong events once a month. Or they could just leave the items in all year now.

If the Flight Rising staff do decide to create a schedule to cycle in these items more often. There are two things that I would recommend. One is announce in advance when the items will be cycled back in. Communication is key for any business so informing players in advance when cycled items will come back will give them the chance to save up. The second thing I would like is a constant schedule. For example the staff could cycle back items the second week of each month.

What are your thoughts on this suggestion? Should we just have the staff cycle the gem marketplace items more often. Or should they leave the items in all year. If you wanna add on to this suggestion feel free to do it. I’m curious to see what others think about this suggestion.

I'd buy more gem items if they were permanent/regular. I never even look at the nightsky set in the dressing room because that's like dressing a dragon up in pure money.

Would I like to buy them? Yes absolutely but I hate the FOMO baiting tactic so I'll live without them.

I'm +10H ahead of FR time!
Replies may be slow, so sorry ;w;
Support for at the very least, a set schedule where people know when items will return/exit.

If writers are supposed to "show not tell," why are we called "storytellers" and not "storyshow-ers"?
Strong support. I've said this before but I'll keep saying it: the timing of the WC scrolls, Night Sky Silks, and other items cycling back in right now when some people are having a hard time with IRL expenses thanks to the pandemic (and yes, it is possible to trade treasure for gems but that involves a lot of grinding in one week, especially when the t:g ratio is this inflated), is gross and predatory. I don't approve of items cycling out *at all* and I have very little sympathy for people who are like "but that'll hurt muh income when I can't charge 3kg for a WC scroll!", but if we absolutely must have them cycling, I'd prefer them to be on a set schedule. I don't like this "no advance warning and only one week to grind for it if you don't have money saved" business.

And as another commenter upthread said, I would actually be more inclined to spend gems on certain items if they were available year-round. I honestly think the site would make more money, not less, if they stopped cycling WC scrolls and Night Sky Silks and made them available all the time. The money would be flowing in more steadily rather than "everyone make a mad dash to buy gems at X time of year".

As an aside, I *hate* Wildclaws and the reason why is because of the cycling and how much extra I have to spend to be able to afford to turn my g1s into Wildclaws, I got completely turned off to WCs for that reason. (It's not a question of not being able to afford them off-season, it's a question of me refusing to pay jacked-up prices for WC scrolls and resenting it.) I dislike that I've closed myself off to an entire breed, I don't even feel like this about Imps, because of feeling like it's "not worth it" to scry Wildclaws. I don't bother to do dressing room previews of Night Sky Silks either, and in fact I rarely design anything with silks anymore (some of my older permas wear silks) because of this. I don't know how common or uncommon my attitude is but if it's even a little bit of players who feel this way, the site is potentially depriving themselves of money that we'd be spending on these items but we don't because we can't let ourselves like them. I'd probably dislike WCs a bit less and use Night Sky Silks a lot more if they weren't cycled out for ridiculous amounts of time just to come back for a week out of nowhere.

I understand why staff cycles in demand items (sweet, sweet revenue) but they'd probably get MORE revenue if they would cycle them out with a more consistent schedule.

I support a more consistent schedule. Anything more than a week, at least. Maybe a few months?

I can't even afford to buy gems right now (I have 2 dollars fr), and I had to wait so long for the wc scrolls I dropped any projects I had that involved them. I do think FR would see more gems spent if it had all these items available year round.

Regardless it does sit bad with me that there was a whole other thread talking about how predatory this no warning cycling is (especially right now!! Especially right now) and they didn't even address that at all, rather they just did it again. It's not a "they think its a neat surprise and they don't know how it's coming off" at that point, it's "they're intentionally trying to wring money out of people. Right now. And it's impossible to deny that."

Edit: Also it's very clear that the cycling of the desert dynasty, pastel lace and ornate armor sets is there just to create artificial scarcity for sets that don't sell well so they can get a few sales out of resellers when they come in stock.

But the issue with short term profits is that you have to constantly do it. Which the staff have not been doing at all. I also like your point on these sales lasting several months. Personally I like the idea that WC scrolls and night sky silks stay for six months, while coatl and prismatic can stay for the other six. Just have them split up for each half of the year.

I've said it in another thread and I'll continue to say it: I have nothing against the cycling. HOWEVER I would really appreciate a set schedule with everything cycling in at least once a year.
