TOPIC | Retiring Gene Scrolls! Gasp!
1 2 3
I'll probably be clapped in irons for even suggesting it, but WHAT IF?! We know skins are retiring, so what if gene scrolls could be retired as well? With dragon prices as they stand, I know lots of people just buy a pre-gened baby in the colors they're looking for. What if that was the only option? Would it boost dragon prices back up a bit? Would you not care either way? Would you hoard away scrolls for future selling if you heard they were retiring?

I'm one of those crazies who purchases gene scrolls and customizes my own dragons for fun, because what else am I going to do with all that treasure? c: I think it would make gameplay more interesting if breeding was the only way to acquire certain traits.

OR, alternatively, have genes that just randomly, and rarely, pop up on a hatchling. And even if they breed with another hatchling that's been afflicted with the same gene, they might not pass it on.

I'm done. Discuss. c:

I have no problem with this.

I'd prefer that the scrolls be cycled rather retired; cycling would have a similar effect to retiring except it wouldn't cause all the fuss that retiring would do (many people got annoyed that skins were retiring; genes would cause even more of a commotion).

Agreed with @DragonSage; I'm iffy on retiring altogether, but cycling could work.

I would be okay with retiring, providing they are restricted to treasure scrolls. Don't support, but would be okay. I would love cycling genes.

I go on another pet site (PonyIsland) where you are only able to get a G1 pony with a certain gene (in this case, it's a fawn pattern) once per year for about a week around Christmas. I think it'd be fun on FR, assuming the gene had the same or more common rarity as the treasure genes, not the gem genes, as the gene can be bred all year long and it's not retired after Christmas, as it's released again next year... you just can't get an entirely new, non-bred pet with the gene until Christmas. Perhaps something like this would do well on FR?

I don't support it, really. Cycling is okay, I wouldn't throw a fit, but I'd only support retiring gene scrolls if it was something like a one time super special rare gene scroll.

Right now we don't even have that many gene scrolls in the system. Only two terts, four primary and five secondary if I believe. We need a lot more variation in my opinion; we certainly don't need any less right at the moment.

No retiring. When consumable things retire the prices go through the roof. Case in point: good luck buying an Imperial Scroll. In a year from now they just won't exist.

Cycling is iffy. The prices are high enough to keep genes value up so I don't see it as really needed. But if I had to pick between retiring and cycling, cycling makes more sense as then at least people will be able to get them in a year without spending 5 billion treasure per scroll.

I also agree: we need more variety, not less. more variety will help prices stabilize. The faster we get it the more stable they will stay.

I'd be alright with cycling but straight up retiring gets a no from me. Maybe in the future if we have a lot to choose from I could see retiring some old genes but right now cycling would be better.

Well... You know my stance on this.
I'm sure that many new players would want to gene their progenitors and first gens with those. Which they wouldn't be able to do if the scrolls have been retired.

It's usually not good business practice to make a game less accessible to newbies. After all, you need fresh blood to replace all the old players that gradually drift away.

Cycling would work though, once there are enough genes to stabilize the market.
