TOPIC | Petition to Admins: Explain Lair Costs

Good morning, I'll start off by saying I am an adult, and I have purchased actual gems from the site. So in a real sense, I'm helping to support the site. So my Question and Petition is: Admins: Explain your reasoning behind the excessive lair expansion costs I've played a lot of pet collection games, and in all of the successful ones, getting more space to keep pets has been fairly easy or even free. Or at least doable with only reasonable playtime. FlightRising is one of the better games I've played, with even more potential than any of the others. Except.... it's a pet collection game where most users will be UNABLE to get above 75 lair spots. The cost of lair space gets too high compared to treasure earning abilities. Once you've had a "pet" (even though they are pixels) for a while, you get attached. And I for one have stopped buying dragons, because getting a single extra one would probably mean getting rid of one I already really like. Economically it makes no sense, and I feel is a large part of the problem with said economy. Lair space is like the cost of living in real life. When the cost of living gets too high, people stop spending their money on "luxuries" (ie, more dragons, items, familiars, genes, breed changes). I know I have stopped buying dragons. I see dragons of all breeds that I want all the time. But expanding beyond my current limit will be extremely hard and painful, so I must regretfully pass up those dragons. Because the cost of those additional lair spaces is simply too much. Best Regards, Cyradis4. Editing to add the response from an Admin, on page 12:
Hey everyone! We normally don't chime in on Suggestions topics, but this appears to be more of a clarification thread, so I'm happy to reply. Why are lair expansion costs priced the way they are? Simply put, and echoed by several people in this thread, these costs are meant as a treasure sink. It's a very common design choice for games to put soft caps in place as a means of progression and goal-making. They increase in price because that is a fairly normal and recognized method for creating a difficulty curve. I will agree that it's not certainly the most interesting choice, but it fulfills a purpose. Is there room for discussion/alteration of the expansion prices? Sure! Our team is absolutely not above adjusting things, much like we did for exaltation payouts, nest sizes, and egg rotting. It is not happening for sure, or soon, but I hope everyone here knows that we absolutely consider things like this and talk about them regularly. Why is there a cap of 99 dragons? This hard cap is currently in place to help prevent our infrastructure from receiving too much strain. As with all data, the more there is of it, the longer things may take to load, and the less stable the experience can become. Dragons are an inexhaustible/exponential resource, so for the time being, the hard cap is in place to help us better manage that load. Our main focus for Flight Rising is improving its stability. It is why registration is currently closed, why achievements have been mostly disabled, and why we aren't able to provide a whole lot in the way of verbal updates. A lot of time and energy is being devoted to this goal so that everyone can have a great play experience. The dragon cap is included in that. As time goes on, this may change. If we are able to hit a breakthrough in how their data can be stored, we will absolutely be onboard for making some changes in that regard. It's just taking time. We really appreciate everyone's passion for Flight Rising, its creatures, and the desire to understand more about the game. Your constructive threads really help keep our brain gears turnin'!
Good morning,

I'll start off by saying I am an adult, and I have purchased actual gems from the site. So in a real sense, I'm helping to support the site.

So my Question and Petition is:
Admins:
Explain your reasoning behind the excessive lair expansion costs

I've played a lot of pet collection games, and in all of the successful ones, getting more space to keep pets has been fairly easy or even free.

Best Regards,
Cyradis4.

Simply put, and echoed by several people in this thread, these costs are meant as a treasure sink. It's a very common design choice for games to put soft caps in place as a means of progression and goal-making.

I'm at 45 lair spaces and simply cannot afford to spend my time farming 200k to expand for 5 measly slots.

Would like to know it too
since time have showed that exalting dragons is not really an force to balance out the lair space needs.

I see so many dragons on a day to day basis that I want and would snatch up but because I need to lair space to open up my eggs to make extra money for my next lair space, I can't buy them. So many pretty dragons probably going to be exalted :(

The cost is way too damn high, it's true. I just hope if they DO ever change the lair costs, they will refund all the people who have already spent inordinate amounts on their lairs (looking at you, maxed lair people...!)

Yeah, honestly I feel like we should get MORE slots the more we pay...not the same amount for a higher price; especially when the prices increase by so much each time on top of growing food we have to supply for the dragons. It's just impossible.

I'm so curious about this, as well. Especially since it increases so drastically with each new expansion. And this also kind of brings in the question as to why there is even an upward limit of how many lair spaces you can ever get total(and why is it 99? why can't it at least be 100? I mean really x_x )

This has been my long-standing issue with the game. FR has been advertised as breeding/collecting game, and while it is not the only aspect of the game, it is nevertheless a sizable portion of its mechanics and, to many players, also its primary draw.

The humongous costs of subsequent lair spaces coupled with the cap of mere 99 dragons (you can't even own a pair of each breed for each primary gene...) coupled with the very high food intake per dragon are all factors which I feel hinder both players who can on average only devout up to an hour or two a day for the game and avid collectors, and depriving those kinds of players the ability to play the game as they'd like is in return detrimental to the game's longevity.

In the end, we are running a scenario where the workers and schoolgoers are forced to quit the game because logging on for half an hour is not going to as much as get their dragons fed for the day, and the collectors will run out of their favorite past-time a mere month into the game. And workers and avid collectors tend to be the people most likely to support the site via gem-purchases...

I'd like to know as well!

I'm sitting at 50 slots right now, and whenever I think about expanding, the price just completely turns me away. I mean, not only that, but the fact that I know if I buy the next expansion, prices will only go up from there, and I just don't want to deal with it, haha.

It's a soft cap (combined with feeding costs) and a long-term goal. It's also a good treasure sink.

I dunno, I've never seen it as much of a problem.
