Most of Neith’s earliest memories revolved around a very strict training regimen. He was son of Sickle, The Scion of the Sun, and Scythe, The Devil of the East, who controlled a large territory in the Wandering Contagion bordering Driftwood Drag. Brought up with great care, he was taught the ways of combat and hunting befitting his standing as an Effluvial Crow.

As Neith grew older he roamed the edges of The Wandering Contagion to lure out and infect stray or foreign dragons that were considered to be “worthy foes” in order to push them into what his parents called “a pure fight”. Even though the young dragon was unsure about the meaning of those phrases, he committed himself to the usual practice of the clan. To use his infection as a means to draw out the fullest of their opponent’s strengths and putting himself against that force did appeal to all of his senses and gave him a certain feeling of fulfillment and pride. Some say, that offspring with a penchant for a more patient brand of cunning inherited it from Scythe’s side and Neith had definitely inherited the cunning and clever side of his mother’s demeanor. While being a good fighter, Neith could always was a very loyal friend and ally. To the chagrin of others, he also has a quite sarcastic sense of humor, as he is quick to make witty or snarky remarks. Like most Crows, Neith possesses a certain sense of arrogance and tends to sometimes make tactless comparisons on ‘others’ and ‘him’, which tends to annoy his friends greatly.

But as he advanced towards the end of his training, Neith started to feel the world around him closing in on him, getting smaller every passing day. Despite his skills and eagerness to fulfill his role in the clan, the young dragon was just not able to settle down. Instead of just following his own nature as a Crow, he struggled with the restrictions and expectations he put on himself. Over time, he started locking in by the situation and emotions resulting in not being able to fully stretch his wings and not reaching his full potential.

“Sickle, have a word with your gumplefik son! Him being antsy, jittery, fidgety even with all the fights he’s getting himself into is driving me crazy! I think he’s finally ready; his sisters left the nest ages ago. Let’s consult the Feathers and see, what the future holds in store for him…” – Over the years, Neith had collected red wing feathers from his closest friends, loyal companions in arms as well as his family to form his very own compilation of Fortune Feathers, for he was one of the more sentimental dragons that prefer to keep his dearest ones close and ask for their guidance through his form of fortune telling. All he needed for his very first telling was the first taste of gold: the special token he had worked so hard for during his battles and the very symbol of him reaching maturity.

This occasion required a Complex Fortune Reading, one that would guide Neith through all the important questions he had regarding the upcoming life changing events. The moment the young one started to grow restless; Sickle had started gilding a gold token for his son. It had the characters for ‘Advantageous Start’ carved at its center, placed on a deep sanguine background that was pooled from a mixture of resin and red pigments.

Three flips for the past, three for the present and another three for the future. Nine feathers between him and the freedom he was longing for. Today, he would escape. After all his years training and molding himself to the perfect Crow, he had started to loose part of himself inside the strict regimen. Sometimes he couldn’t even see the goal, like he had awoken to a world painted in red and the bittersweet smell of smoke and rot. The last few years had been the worst. His very being, so accustomed to draw out the very best inside the opponent he was facing to create the purest of fights, so adept at evaluating every nuance of the encounter, had begun deceiving him in his own grow. He would gather the very heat from his own body, soaking his eyes in those reds and flung his very being at his opponent. His personal dungeon was shaped in the very battle he was fighting with every battle. And just nine feathers could set him free from all of it.

In the early morning chill, Neith and those closest to him gathered at the square right outside the clans housing area. Just thinking about the Reading had made him slowe down to make the road last longer. At the same time, he couldn’t wait to arrive and wished he’d already be over with it.

“Are you ready?” His best friend asked him, there was a mischievous little twist to his lips as he was eager to see, what the reading would reveal. Neith raised a brow at him, pretending to be mildly annoyed about the whole situation and came to a stand next to him.
“Let’s just say that I just want it to be over with and get out of here. I want to do more with my life than just roaming the Wandering Contagion ‘till the day I die.”
The Wildclaw looked askant at his friend, just shaking his head. “You are as blunt as ever, Neith. Don't jinx it! Get started with that Reading already ...”

Neith rolled his shoulders and stretched his neck to one side and then the other, each giving a satisfying little pop, then reached inside his parcel to get the special Token his father gilded for him as well as the nine feathers he himself had chosen the day before.
“Are you ready”, Sickle asked. One more, he had to deal with the same question.
“I’ll manage.”
He always does,” his mother added in on the discussion. Her eyes were clear and cold.
“I’d like to get started now, if you don’t mind…”

Three short feathers, colored in the deepest red, aligned in front of their eyes. Neith stared hard at them and he felt, like he’d been hit in the stomach. The feelings that had tormented him for so long were spelled out right in front of his eyes:

“Relent, Release. One was confined, a prisoner who’s about to be released and will be allowed to move away. I will be set free from obligations and commitments that constricted me in the past.”

The young Crow didn’t notice he had clamped his eyes shut until he heard the rustle of cloths as someone was moving right next to him. Opening his eyes the young dragon reached for the second batch of feathers while being unable to actually look anyone in the eye. Short, long, long--the drawing for the present revealed.

“Pleasure, Excitement. The state or feeling of being gratified, a source of enjoyment or delight opens up for one. The condition of being excited and being able to go in search of pleasure an enjoyment. The future about to open in front of one, ready to be taken and explored.”

Neith paused, and if anything, his best friend thought he looked rather pleased with the outcome so far even though he tried to hide it from everyone. He grinned knowingly as he saw the excited gleam in Neith’s eyes.

One more; the last reading was about the future and whatever the young one was hoping for, this time the feathers would reveal something even he would be unaware of. This meant, there was only one way of finding out… so he grabbed the last few feathers, tossed the token and put down three long, beautifully colored feathers on the floor.

“Persistence, Tenacity. One has to be extremely persistent in adhering to or doing something. There is a need of a stubborn and relentless heart. Whatever lies ahead, one purpose could only be reached by proceed without looking back, relentlessly and consistently.”

Something shifted. At first, Neith thought it was the world around him that turned upside down, but it wasn’t. Something had changed inside him. The young dragon leaned back, trying to calm his racing heart as his emotions were still a jumble. It wasn’t a loss, it was a new beginning. When feelings change and one is at their most insecure, it's a matter of personal survival to let go. It's not always meant to hurt, but it often does.

The silence stretched on for an awfully long time. Standing up, Neith felt that familiar tightness in his chest again, but he wasn’t able to put anymore thoughts into words. He just didn’t knew the ones that could convey this feelings. There was only one thing left to do. So, he turned and left. His family couldn’t help but watch him go, his figure svelte, powerful, and well known to all of them; but they kept their glance brief. Neith set off and disappeared into the distance, breaking out in a new direction toward a new chapter in his life.
