SeaMount Lore:

When the Earthshaker stomped down the lands and the Tidelord crashed in the seas, the Flamecaller pulled from deep within the core of the world to release the magma pits. But in doing so she interfered with her brothers creations. The Tidelord cared not for what happened above his waters but he would not allow his sister control over what remained beneath the surface. In an attempt at avoiding fighting both brothers, the Flamecaller relented and granted the Tidelord all volcanic activity that never broke through the waves above.

What the Flamecaller did not prepare for was the number of volcanos she would fail to raise completely or just forgot about, letting them rest and rumble on the ocean floor. As a result the seamounts became viable marine ecosystems; they intersected multiple currents due to their elevations, attracting plankton, corals, fish, marine mammals, and eventually dragons.

Prolonged exposure to the heated waters eventually started shaping the dragons; deep blues to blend in with the depths, splashes of gold and fire to camouflage into the lava cracks. Snappers and Guardians became the most prominent species to swim in the volcanic waters, though occasionally one could find a Skydancer flitting around like a fish. Often SeaMounts take on blacksmithing or working in a forge, though they’ve also been known to be excellent, if not hot headed, chefs. Though they have the vast ocean in which to nest, all SeaMount mated pairs return to the warm waters close to the Ashfall Wastes to wait for their broods to hatch.

Aso, please let your father & I know you and your family are safe. I pray to the Tidelord the hatchlings are okay.

How did your clan fair from the maelstrom? The guild hall is ruined, Guild Master Zand is frantically trying to keep order; there are still some dragons missing.

Your niece Kamakou is safe and while I wish she would stay close to camp, she is insistent that she help with the recovery efforts. Your father & I were by the seamounts when the storm began, something is wrong with the magma, Fire dragons are trying to push us out of our territory to mine deeper.

Mariana says the Tidelord has gone silent, that she cannot reach out to him or receive direction. We are nervous but we trust the council.

I'm sorry to keep this brief - but we must help rebuild, and to search for survivors.
