Vorchan

Vorchan turned from the dock as the Blaine took wind. Agamemnon stood smiling at him, “So, why didn’t you leave with them? I doubt Ludic will ever return.” He strummed his lute in a discord.
“I like it here. Lulungomeena has become home to me.”
“You going to apply for citizenship?”
“It’s been known to happen.” He grinned knowing that Aga had only been an official citizen for a few months.
Agamemnon nodded. “Very true, but are you going to ask back at Tareesh?”
Vorchan shuddered, “No, facing Diath? No thank you. I’ll ask Sonnet. If she turns me down?” He shrugged. “ Maybe I’ll head up to Zorast and ask Cimmeron. I’m sure they could more help up there.”
“Perhaps, but I’m certain Sonnet will agree.”
Vorchan had started walking to the government house, but stopped. “Why? what do you know?”
“Ah more than I can tell I’m afraid. Understand not only am I a gatekeeper, but also part time bard to Sonnet’s court. I hear things. But, if I were to repeat them, I would lose that privilege.”
“Everyone knows there was an argument between Captain Ludic and Sonnet over her
allowing the Bonnie Cross mooring here.”
Agamemnon agreed. “He said that they were pirates. Captain Nala said that *were* was correct and that they had retired as such and wished to start anew here on Lulungomeena.”
“I heard that Ludic demanded for Sonnet to choose between him and Nala.”
“And no one demands anything from Sonnet," Agamemnon finished. "Even Diath asks politely.” Another strum. “Come on, I’ll escort you.”
They began to walk again, “I remember when Ludic and Sonnet were an item.” Vorchan commented.
“True, but that was before my time here. Lately it has been very uncomfortable between the two of them.” He lowered to a hushed tone. “Just between you and me, it seemed as though Ludic was pushing for more control, closer to what Cimmeron and Dor have in Zorast.”
“Yeah, I can see that, once a captain always a captain.” He shook his head.
Agamemnon chuckled, “True, well, here we are good luck.”
“Thank you.”
He entered and Makani cheerfully greeted him, She helped Sonnet out as her assistant when there wasn’t any candidates for exaltation. “Vorchan! wasting no time I see. Go on in she’s expecting you.”
“What?”
“Oh wait.” She moved to him and closed her eyes.When she opened them, she adjusted his wing guards and took his helmet off and handed it to him. She switched it to his left hand. Nodded. “There your energy will flow even better now.” She smiled and returned to the desk.
He had to admit that he did feel more confident. But, it was probably just the suggestion.
He rapped on the door frame and entered when called.
“Vorchan, please come in, how may I help you?’
“Ma’am I wish to apply for citizenship.”
“Your base town being here, Zorast or Tareesh?”
“Here at Ampezist, if I may.”
“ I heard that you might have been staying with us when Blaine departed. I must admit I am pleased. Master level, first to be ranked as a Celestial Warrior. You would be a welcomed addition to any of the settlements. Now, we are not in need of anymore for the Defense Force here at Ampezist.”
“Oh well, maybe Zorast will..” He started dejectedly.
“However,” she interrupted, “I am in need of a personal guard.”
Shocked he answered, “I would be honored.”
She nodded. “You will begin tonight then, at dinner.”
“Yes ma’am.” He bowed as he turned to leave.
“Oh and Vorchan?" He turned back. "I am Sonnet when we are alone.”
He grinned. “Yes, Sonnet and thank you.” He left for his quarters,
pausing only to pass the news to the unsurprised Aga.
