The Kingdom of
VANORIA
~~~~~~~~ |
Traveling the skies of the Arcanist’s realm is hazardous by nature— the Starfall Isles are infamous for capturing both debris and dragons, happily making playthings out of the most unwilling of creatures. However, wayward elemental energy is not the sole danger to be found in the land of pink chalcedony— the northwestern skies are particularly dangerous, as that is where the Vanorians have made their home. The Kingdom of Vanoria is regarded as one of the most dangerous places in the Starfall Isles, and its queen seems intent on maintaining her kingdom’s terrifying reputation. The queen in question is Atalya, a ruthless, cunning Imperial, who is rumored to have been blessed by the Arcanist himself. She rules from her tower of pink, jagged chalcedony, which is flanked by the eleven smaller islands that hover on the outskirts of the capital city. These islands, which float roughly at the same level as the castle’s tallest point, are the homes of the Eleven Houses—the dukes and duchesses that make up the most elite of the Vanorian nobility. The leaders of each House were handpicked by Queen Atalya herself for their magical prowess, and each of them is nearly as dangerous as their monarch. Ranking in Vanorian society is almost entirely dictated by a dragon’s magical abilities. As a result, almost all of the Vanorian nobility are talented mages, save for the few that have gained titles through marriage or parentage. While these dragons fall short when compared to the Eleven Houses, they are still dangerous— many of the nobility continuously hone their skills through sparring or combat in hopes of being awarded the leadership of a House. However, for most of Vanoria’s citizens, the only way to advance is through the military. Although there are a handful of mages among the ranks, most of Vanoria’s soldiers have compensated for their lack of magical talent with sheer, raw brutality. The most successful soldiers are given titles, which has indirectly encouraged soldiers to prioritize victory above all else. While this system is morally questionable at best, it has certainly been effective at creating a terrifying, destructive army. In fact, the Vanorian military is held in such high regard that members of the nobility often accompany Vanorian military conquests, although they are almost never found at the front lines. It has been said that the sheer power to be found among Queen Atalya and her subjects could be enough to challenge the gods themselves. And, as Queen Atalya and her army push further eastward, a reckoning of that sort seems imminent. | ~~~~~~ |
Dragons without a familiar will most likely be exalted as fodder. If you would like a dragon returned to you, you must trade me for another fed, adult dragon.
