Biography

Cinnabari
The Nightmare
A haunting spirit

Arrived in the Clarus Clan on Appeared on December 20th, 2016

She is the quiet in the shadows; a thief haunting the dreams of the Clan.

Ever since she came into existence - for no dragon can really say she was born - she has been a plague on others. She is not a Plague elemental herself, though. But this may be the reason for her appearance, for her blood-eyes, her dark colouring. She was not born under the watch of the Plaguebringer like an ordinary Plague dragon - but nevertheless, she took the shape of one, emerging in a form which she hoped that others would recognize, and perhaps even accept.

It did not work out as well as she hoped. Her form was defined by the thoughts and perceptions of others; the others, who only knew her through the nightmares she brought, decided she was to look like the enemy. She would have changed her appearance herself if she had any control over it, but unfortunately that was not possible. While others did recognize her, and even accept her - it was clear that they saw her as a threat.

She couldn’t tell if that was what she wanted, or if she only became so because that was what they told her.
Cinnabari is not sure how she came to live in the northern rain forest, or how she joined the spirits of the Clarus Clan; but to her, this is home. There is something about the Willow that feels right, proper.

She is not a loud presence in the Clan. In fact, most of the Clan doesn’t even know she’s there - they cannot see her. She tends to stay out of the way, focused mostly on her work, and sometimes, focused on avoiding her work. Some of those who are in similar alignment with her will accompany her throughout the day, although she never speaks with them, even if she does enjoy their company. She merely soaks up their presence, and they understand that she will not — cannot — speak to them directly without danger. There is no way for her to communicate without bringing destruction to those around her. Nightmares spew from her maw, the most intimate fears of her companions coming to fruition in her thoughts, spiraling to reach anyone in the vicinity without holding back, uncontrollable attacks on the subconscious of everyone - death and disease - falling and failure - broken hearts and the loss of loved ones - destruction of all that a dragon knows - never-ending nightmares…

There are few exceptions to her unbidden attack on the psyche. Over the course of her existence, Cinnabari has noticed that those from the spirit world only feel her dream plagues when she wishes to harm them; those of the Sidhe courts feel only a nagging itch in the back of their thoughts no matter how hard Cinnabari tries to reach their minds. Her closest friend, Shock, is neither of these beings and so Cinnabari needs to more careful with him. But he is not a dragon either, and so she is not nearly as dangerous to him as she is to others.

The dragons of the Clarus Clan do not notice her like the spirits and Sidhe do. But she prefers it that way. They have inadvertent allowed her to settle beside many other non-dragons; they have not pushed her away like many other Clans have. Cinnabari is protective of these kind, naive dragons, too welcoming for their own good. Some might call them stupid - and those are the ones Cinnabari attacks with her dream plagues.

While the Clarus dragons do not know she is there, and most of the spirits and Sidhe leave her be, Shock will follow Cinnabari around the lair. When Cinnabari is asleep, Shock watches over her nest, waiting for her corporeal form to reappear when she is finished in the dreamworld.

In return, she helps Shock with his task of controlling and spreading his mother’s disease, providing him with the Plague magic he requires in order to survive. Together, the two work to balance and protect one another. There is a strange, cooperative relationship between the two, and they have even hatched a few broods together. They cannot nest in the nursery under Carina's watchful eye, because the nursery caretaker despises the Clarus Clan non-dragons - whom she calls imposters. And so Cinnabari and Shock hide their eggs from the other dragons.

There is only one dragon in the Clarus Clan who is aware of Cinnabari’s precense, although he has only noticed her in the dream world. Jassu is the Clan’s dream-keeper, and so he has noticed a strange current in the Clan’s dreams, a reoccuring energy which has developed slowly over the course of seasons. Jassu has no name to put to it, but it is Cinnabari whom he feels. She knows that the Skydancer will soon find her, and she fears of what may happen when that time comes. She does not want to haunt him or the Clan - but she cannot always control how her dream plagues affect others.
