Biography

Fourth generation purebred Naomi descendant. Bloodline trail is:

Naomi > Willow > Mara > Marunae
Naomi > Willow > Fia > Ammutseba > Hastur > Cypir > Exodus > Marunae

About Naomi:
The original bug report chronicle.

Clan Role: Permanent resident. She engages in some therapy to help control her strange powers.

I stood in another forest. It was dim, as the sun was masked by thousands of leaves in the canopy above. Shadows crept. I was one of these shadows.

I couldn’t quite remember how I got here, or how to go back to where I had been. I didn’t want to be part of the shadows. I was one of the Lightweaver’s children, and I wanted to be in the sunshine. But the other part of my heritage would not be controlled. It would rip me from where I was to somewhere in my line of sight, often with barely a warning. It would do this to other dragons, too. Objects. Familiars. Anything I fixated on for just a little too long was a possible outlet for this… curse.

So here was just as good a place to be as any, I supposed. Nothing bad would happen if I teleported a jungle leaf from one spot of the forest to another. I could spend some time outside of my invisibility cloak if I wanted as well without being spotted. It was quiet here. No other dragons. If only I could be above the trees, if only I could fly. Well, I could – but the last time, and the time before that, I nearly teleported myself into the ground.

I was parched, and started looking for water. There was a gentle stream a little further into the jungle. I hastily scanned my surroundings – no one was there. Just more leaves, and more shadows. Leaving the cloak of invisibility heaped up on a mossy stone, I closed my eyes and bent my head down to meet the cool, fresh water. I lapped at it lazily for a few minutes to enjoy a bit of rest.

Snap.

What was that!? When I whipped my head around and opened my eyes to see what had made the noise, I realized that it had happened again, and I was now in the middle of some ferns on the opposite side of the stream. Near where I had been standing, there now stood an Imperial dragon. His bluish scales shone with a dull gleam under the dappled, thickly filtered light that trickled down through the trees. His eyes were opened wide, as if he had seen a ghost. There was a coughing sound as he struggled for words. I looked around me for my cloak, and realized that it was still on the other side of the stream, where I had been standing… I shut my eyes tight. Don’t look at him. If you look at him too long, you might send him up into the fragile tree branches or who knows where.

“Um… Can… Er… Are you okay?” the stranger managed.

“Yes. I’m fine. I was just getting some water. Enjoying the jungle. I should be on my way,” I replied in quick, nervous bursts.

“Um… Is this yours?” he asked. Reflexively, I opened my eyes to see what he was talking about. He was pointing down at my cloak. My eyes focused on his paw. I jerked my head away and squeezed my eyelids closed again. I must not teleport only his paw… that would rip it off his arm, like what happened in that town… “You sure you okay? Are you hurt? Migraine, maybe?” he continued.

“No – I mean yes – I have to get out of here. Sorry.” With that, I opened my eyes and launched into the air, hoping to make it above the canopy before he had time to see where I’d gone. Perhaps predictably, that plan failed. As I focused on the tangles of branches above me to try and steer clear, I teleported right into a mess of them, and they could not hold my weight. They snapped almost immediately, and I fell. The force of the landing knocked the air out of my lungs, and I lay there, gasping for breath as pain spread through my body. I squeezed my eyes so tightly shut that my eyelids burned.

For a minute, there was absolute stillness. The only sounds I could here were the lofty creaks and sways of the branches I had broken above me. Then I heard footsteps, big and heavy.

“Don’t come any closer!” I wanted to scream. But I was still regaining control of my lungs, and all that came out was another gasp for breath. The footsteps came right up alongside me, and I felt a paw delicately touch my shoulder. After flailing my wings and a couple more desperate gasps, I was able to yell: “Stay away! I can’t look at you! I’ll hurt you the same way I hurt myself! I can’t open my eyes with you here! Please, go!”

Flailing and screaming had intensified the pain. I let my wings fall limp around me. Then I heard rustling sounds, and after a couple minutes, I felt a paw against one of my horns.

“Easy, just keep still and don’t move. I have this mask here – I made some makeshift patches over the eye holes inside. I’m just going to put this on you, and you won’t be able to look at anything. We need to get you to a doctor. I’ll hoist you up onto my back and carry you. There’s a hidden clan near here I get tea from sometimes; it shouldn’t be long. I’ve got your cloak. Just take it easy,” the stranger said, trying to keep his tone soothing. There was a slight shake in it, but it mostly sounded heavy with concern.

A thick mask was fitted over my face. I tentatively let an eye open, slowly, but it was pitch black. Nothing to focus on. Just the illusion of infinite darkness.

“I don’t know what this is all about,” the Imperial continued as he lifted me onto his back. “But if you can’t look and you can’t open your eyes, you can just keep that mask on for now. It was just something I used to display on my wall. In the meantime, I’ll be your eyes. It’s okay. We’ll get you fixed up just fine. I got you.”

My whole body ached. I didn’t like feeling enveloped in darkness. I was a child of the Lightweaver. But in the center of the pain and the abyss, I blinked, and felt a core of calmness. I felt powerless. I felt relieved.
