Biography
His personality is still the same, the cult part of his story just isn’t accurate anymore. This will update! (Also his bio needs an update anyway)
"In your darkest hour, in the blackest night... think of me... and I will be with you. Always.
For where else could I go? Who else could I love but you? --"

|| STORY ||
Cenotaph is a cult and, like all good cults, its purpose and rituals are obscured in rumour, mythology, and clever half-truths. Some of the rumours are frightening: Shade Corrupted cultists bent on spreading their infection. Some are repulsive: talk of cannibalism, and of blasphemy against the Eleven. Some of the rumours are intriguing: adherents obtain their member status by devouring remnants of Shade and purifying it.
Let’s get one thing straight. Cenotaph is not full of Shade-eaters. However, it is true that Cenotaph has a Shade-eater. Dismas, the leader who is as charismatic as he is enigmatic. For a godlike figurehead, Dismas doesn’t always carry himself the way one might expect. His smile is as bright as the sun and easily teased out; in repose, he is rarely seen without a goblet of wine in one hand (maybe both, if the night is young enough yet). It can be difficult to find him alone, for he is often surrounded by friends, allies, and followers -- and even when not engaged in active revelry there’s an ever-present sense of a party just on the horizon wherever Dismas goes. |
It may well be true that that sense of inevitability about him has been present his entire life. You see, he wasn’t always Dismas, but he would always become Dismas. Before he knew himself, he called himself Adam -- and Adam had a great longing to find himself. The waking moments of his youth were spent touching every facet of his own mind, trying to worry smooth the contours and cracks he could not account for. Back then, he believed he must choose a path, and it was almost too late when he realised he could create his own.
The longing is what started him on his journey, following a voice within that lured him far afield in search of himself. That voice, a minute seed of Shade carried over to him by his heritage, was on a quest to find itself, as well -- though it was much more certain of its destination than he was. It needed a larger vessel, a more powerful incarnation of itself to eat or be eaten by, and found it nestled deep in the heart of the cult named Providence, incarnate in the Corrupted God Altair. Their meeting came to a pitched battle, as both of them surely knew it would. As the Corrupted God bled ichor into his veins and tried to take him down with it, the seed of Shade within him spoke its final directive: Feed. And so he did. Consuming the Corrupted God’s flesh brought with it a wave of knowledge: of the hold the Shade had had on him for far longer than he ever knew, of the danger it presented not only to himself but to all living things, the world itself. With this knowledge came a great weight of responsibility: he would destroy the Shade, whatever the cost. |
One life against the lives of all. It was an easy choice; one he would make again and again, if necessary. Far from the battle, too far to save him the first time, one of his oldest and dearest friends, North, followed the echo of his spirit as he fought, and caught the tattered hem of his soul just in time to stop him from crossing over. It took all her strength, and the strength of his friends, to do it. In the end, she could only keep his soul from advancing, not return it completely.
To bring him back, she fulfilled a promise she made long ago, to the last true believer of a religion that had faded into obscurity well before any of them were born. She cradled the crystalline heart of Ignis, an artefact of incredible death and rebirth energy, and offered it to the still corpse of her friend. The heart of Ignis would revive him, she knew, but it would also demand a vessel in return for its service -- his vessel, his body. Would he ever even truly return, or would he come back someone -- something -- different entirely? It was worth the risk to bring him back. It was worth the risk to keep a promise. He awoke to the sound of weeping, tears both joyous and sorrowful, and to shouts of triumph. He had devoured the Shade; he had, as far as anyone could tell, devoured death itself. He wasn’t himself certain what he had done, but knew the doing of it had changed him. When North crouched beside him and whispered, “Adam?”, the name she’d long known him by, he answered. “No, but I’m still here.” |
Great destruction begets great regrowth and renewal. With Altair dead, Providence was shattered. Some had died in the initial battle. Many of his surviving adherents fled in the wake of his death; others retreated more carefully, to rethink and regroup.
Others came to him, the one who had devoured their god and returned to tell the tale. They were scared, in need of guidance, adrift without a spiritual rudder to steady their course. Some were Shadetouched and sought a cure. They had no place among the Eleven; they needed another path. He was reluctant, at first, afraid to retread Altair’s path and find himself the Corrupted monster at the heart of someone else’s story, until he saw that this, too, was a realisation of the destiny he had met in the darkness between life and death. He would not enslave and Corrupt, he would liberate. Just as the heart of Ignis had united Adam’s soul to his body and forged something new, so, too, did the seeking remnants of Providence unite with his inner circle to form something never before seen in the world: Cenotaph. Those early days were fraught with uncertainty, both among the newly-formed flock and in Dismas’ own heart. It was North who laid it plain, when the new converts asked her what would come next, what they should do next. “Go, and spread the word,” she said, “we’re shaking up the Badlands.” Bio written by Rifter |

About Dima's kids
Dima is currently retired. Because I don’t like making promises that he will never breed again, I will say that it isn’t a given he will never have kids again. However, it will be difficult and I will breed him only for a bribe now or a really good studding offer. I think at 95 kids I’ve done my job of putting G4s out there and the market is very saturated, so consider this me giving space to have others put their lineages out there.
