Leap Day

Once every four years Sornieth comes across a surge of magic. It is said that hatchlings born of that day are especially powerful when it comes to magic, and skydancers are amongst the most powerful.
Such hatchlings are prized by their clans, and they heightened sensitiveness to magic makes them fearsome and awe inspiring in whichever trade they may seek.

Often the dragons born of that day seek the path of the occult, becoming seers, oracles and priests for their clans, speaking for the gods and interpreting the future of those around them. Whatever their path, dragons with such strong magic are sure to bring strange and new facets to their new home’s life.[/size[

Sight

Born at the same time, the twins Castor and Sybil were linked at birth by strong magic. Dragons of such power were rare throughout Sornieth, and only once every four years did magic converge in such ways as to make the birth of as accomplishes seers possible.

While her twin brother Castor received the gift of speaking for the gods, Sybil instead found at an early age that she had been chosen to have the Sight.

She would suddenly be assaulted by flashing images of anything from distant places and strangers, to those she knows and places she has been. This power comes at a cost. Once in a trance, she would feel terrible pain. She would receive scratches, wounds and gashes she had no recollection of, and often must be seen to by the clan healers. Only when with her twin, is she safe from these mysterious wounds, and only with her brother can she fully decipher what her visions mean.

Fearing what may happen to her should they be separated, she has since started recording all her visions, carrying a tome, magically sealed so no others may happen upon them but herself. Seeking to learn more about her powers and to find a way to channel them safely, she has studied under Sinopa's, Clan CornixElecti's Sorceress, watchful eye, and now sets out to distant ruins to try and find out more about her powers.

She does not fear the future, but rather fears what her visions will to do her. The young seer has seen all, and she knows better than to question the visions that flash before her every time she closes her eyes.

Entree #1
Day One at the Hewn City

First day in the Hewn City with Phantasm and Latskaia, and no vision. Phantasm took the first look in the ruins while Latskaia kept me company, but Phantasm returned saying it was a bust. All she had found were skeletons and broken 'trinkets', but we couldn't leave in the dead of night. So we made camp, I created a makeshift fire while Phantasm dashed about to make sure no one would intrude upon us and Latskaia sorted her herbs and tonics. If anyone came near, we would know, thanks to the small measures Phantasm made. I'm feeling tired, but something makes my feathers tremble, I don't feel safe. Latskaia is telling me to sleep, to relax, but I can't. Latskaia handed me a small glass phial with a clear liquid. She told me to drink, I already feel sleep taking me...

Day Two at the Hewn City

Leaving doesn't sit with me right, but neither does staying. I convinced Phantasm and Latskaia to stay with me while I go through the ruins, needing to see for myself what was inside.
  • 1 Imperial skeleton -- Several years old, more than ten, the Imperial skeleton seemed to bother Latskaia
  • 2 Skydancer skeletons -- First was around the same age as the Imperial skeleton, the second much older, several bird skulls scattered about, must be from what the older skeleton wore
  • 1 Wildclaw -- Newer than all the skeletons, but still several years old
The markings are so strange, there are creatures and symbols. Here's what they kind of look like, I'll copy down more, maybe tomorrow.
egypt_hieroglyphics.jpg
My replication has them a bit too crowded and close together, but these are some of the more common symbols I've seen. Looks like I was right to keep looking around! I'm starting to get hungry, we should probably leave and come back in tomorrow, I still don't like the idea of staying in here close to dark.
NOTE TO SELF: Don't leave a ruins without looking around first!

We leave the cave and I gather some wood for a fire while Phantasm went to hunt for her and her mate. I ate some of the local plant life and caught some bugs while I did so, I feel rather full. I spend as much time as I can doing this, not wanting to be hungry in the middle of the night, I also didn't want to sit around too long without Phantasm or Latskaia. I still ended up returning before they did, but that's ok. Phantasm suggested we sleep elsewhere when they returned, somewhere more sheltered and less out in the open. I agreed with her. We left the ruins, thankfully, my feathers and fur were standing on end by nightfall. We slept in a nearby cave, only a few minutes away from the ruins. I think I'll sleep well tonight.

Entree #3
Day Three at the Hewn City

I still feel nothing, I thought for sure by now I would have had a vision, but all I have is a dull headache. Latskaia gave me another tonic, this one a different color, more green than the previous one she gave me. I thanked her and then she checked me out, making sure nothing was wrong. She couldn't find anything. I shrugged it off, so now we're on our way back to the ruins, I'm hoping to go further and see more. Maybe copy down some more symbols. We made great time back to the ruins, the sun isn't even at it's peak yet. We take little note of the parts we've already seen, but Latskaia was conscious enough to suggest making a map. None of us really have experience, making maps but I give it a shot. We travel in a straight line for quite a while

aggbbccdeeFFGhll I wEnt int0 the Ruins ana I t0ucheD s0mEthina I went into the ruins and at first I didn't touch anything, but then I couldn't help myself. There were claw marks etched into the stone, blood that looked like it was used to make twisted markings, as if someone was trying to warn who ever came in, trying to warn me. I ran my claws over it and it hit me like a tone of bricks. A vision came over me, it was painful, I couldn't seen anything, but I could feel claws all over my body and on my face, but it wasn't from another in the vision, it was myself. I started clawing as my face and my eyes, I wanted to desperately to not SEE this damn vision anymore, it hurt so much. When I came to, Ghost was holding me down best he could, he told me this after, in his diluted way. By the time he found me it was too late. I was screeching and crying out in a strange language. From my vision, all I remember is pain, claws and darkness and... Cackling, horrific cackling. I enchanted my feather the best I could, since I can't see, it's writing for me. Maybe later I will learn how to write without seeing, but for now this will do. I need to rest, I still feel the presence, what ever was being tortured in my vision.. It's still here, but I need rest...
