( Return to Raptorion if bored with! )

They call me a hero. I slew demons beyond count. I won battles and broke sieges, that avail me nothing. I know that this war can have no victor, only an eternity of revenge, pride, and hatred.

IMPERIUS
╰━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━╯
❝ His is the wrath of Valor;
tragedy wrought and raised,
he found comfort in war through strife.❞

Imperius had lost his parents at a young age, and even though he had been passed around between distant relatives, he considered himself an orphan. His family may have been massive, but none of them could replace the hole left in his heart. Of course, out of love for his parents, they tried, his aunts and uncles, cousins twice removed, anyone willing to take him in but Imperius continued to move from family to family. No one could thaw the ice around his heart, no one had the room or patience to deal with his emotional baggage.

Eventually, Imperius grew tired of the constant moving, and the promises of forever, and ran away.

he quickly endeared himself to a group of nomadic mercenaries.

He was raised by Inarius, who imparted all of his skills and training.

Auriel
- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - AURIEL
The winter season in the arctic was dangerous for the unprepared, and nature could be cruel and merciless, but Auriel was there to help. This was her territory, her domain and every little thing that grew and lived there was under her care, her protection. It set Auriel’s heart aflame, with anger and vengeance to witness suffering in an area where cooperation was better for long-term survival.

Predator and Prey animals would always stand at opposite ends, but in her opinion both deserve an equal chance to survive. Neither of them deserved to be driven out her territory, and it was not her place to cast judgement, but Auriel would keep the balance, would dole out assistance for the hungry and helpless. The success of that came at the price of companionship, of friends; what kind of prey animal would trust Auriel when they knew she would feed a starving predator, what kind of predator would stay their fangs and claws for friendship when they knew she would step in and stop them if she had decided they hunted enough already? It put her on a very high unapproachable pedestal, as her parents were, as it was destined to be.

Regardless of how lonely it made her feel.

So naturally, Auriel kept her distance from others, and in turn, after hearing her tales ( it was rare to find newcomers other than the newly born), would keep their polite distance, accepting her gifts with gratitude but offering no more.

These tales were from the long-term inhabitants, from them whispering among themselves of the silent guardian that would appear out of nowhere, giving aid and sharing food. The Grandfathers and Grandmothers who would recount meeting the guardian in their younger years, of meeting them repeatedly year after year, noticing how they never aged, never seemed any different from the year before. Of the gossip of them joining grand feasts from all inhabitants, even the unsavory ones. Of the stories of Auriel rescuing others from the jaws of dangerously hungry predators, of the lost being found and carried to safety, of the sick being healed and nursed back to health, and as the numerous years passed, the tales only grew more fanatical. The line between truth and fantasy blurring.

Of course, none of them ever breathed a word of these whisperings around their guardian. In fear of driving Auriel away; they could not afford to chance losing her blessing, her watchful eye.

But, there is always the outliers…
xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx▬▬▬▬⟨ ⟩▬▬▬▬

Auriel had just finished dropping off a few hares for a small family of foxes; the mother had been wounded escaping from a trap and had 3 hungry kits to look after. Normally, she would have left after the delivery, but the mother needed the extra sleep and she had volunteered to babysit. An unusual act for him, but the mother had always been respectful towards her and had raised her children to show Auriel the same curtsy.

It was rare for her to need Auriel’s help; a once in a blue moon happenstance. As she had established herself as fiercely independent by carving out her own territory without the help of a mate. A part of Auriel twinged at the thought of her leaving her kits to fend for themselves.

"Mr. Guardian--" One of the kits nipped at her tail, trying to catch Auriel’s attention,"--is the storm going to stop soon?"

The aforementioned storm had been raging all day, with the falling snow thick and fluffy as the wind howled around them. Dangerous weather to be caught in, if you weren't Auriel mind you, and curious kits were prone to getting bored and wandering off into trouble. It was best to nip that in the bud right now before she had to venture out on a surprise rescue.

"M'hmm," Auriel exhaled softly and closed her eyes to tune into the storm. "--It feels like a few more hours, but this is the worst of it. Cold and miserable, best not test nature's patience right now.... The rest of your siblings are still asleep huh--?”

"Uh-huh!" The kit chirps before they're nipping at Auriel's tail, playful wrestling with it, choosing a formidable foe indeed. "They usually sleep through everything, they're so boring!! Nobody wants to play with me."

Auriel let's out a soft hum in reply, knowing that the Kit wanted someone who listened. Besides, it was nice existing around someone who didn't need something material from her. Or rather she could fulfill a simple request for company without having to overdo the socializing aspect of it. Ah, the blessing of the young.

"Mama said we should be playing more, especially since she can't take us out to practice hunt and forage. I can tell she feels bad about that, when she's not sleeping all the time.." The kit ends with a pout and a guilty grumble, choosing to take out their frustration at their dam with another bite at Auriel's tail.

"Your Mama is smart. Lazy foxes miss the early birds-- or so it goes, but you must take care of yourself, like how your Mama is resting a lot. Sometimes you won't have the opportunity to have assistance, and your Mama needs to regain her strength. "

"--But you'll be here won't you? Mama and you can fight off all the bears and owls and and the wolves!! Because Mama is super tough and strong, and you're super tough and strong. No one can beat the ultimate team."

The question is innocent, and Auriel's heart aches at the depth of the answer to it. The complexity of it. Of the regret it brings out in her.

"I can't be around all the time, there are many families I need to go visit, among other.. things. As much as I love your family, I must love everyone equally. Favoritism is something I can't have, I can't love someone more than someone else, I can't spend more time with one singular family over everyone else." There is a moment where Auriel paused to let her words sink in and feels a well of worry rise up; had she said the wrong thing?

"...Mama already told us that we have to share you-- like dinner! Everyone gets a leg.. or an arm, even though you really really really really love the leg, sometimes you have to get an arm because your brother cried like a big baby and Mama made you share, but you still get to eat, and if you chew really really fast, it kinda' tastes the same, right? and, Mama said even though you 'don't make social visits', and that 'you only visit when bad stuff happens', doesn't mean you hate us, it's just because you're super busy helping someone else because they haveta' get a leg too! "

A loud purr erupts from Auriel, her heart swelling with love and adoration, and she fights the urge to groom the kit currently slobbering all over her tail."I wouldn't have put it like that, but yes, sometimes you need to let someone else have the good leg."

I commissioned a very nice graphic artist to make another set of project badges; I would appreciate if you credit the wonderful creator* if you use them.
