"The coldest part of the Wyrmwound is the deadliest.In the northern-most regions, ice forms deadly stalactites, blades that can fall with the slightest disturbance. The weather alternates between howling blizzards and eerie fog, and strange beasts with too many legs wander the wilderness.
But it is here that a close-knit clan has formed their home. Living in small, carved-stone huts beneath the lip of a giant mountain, Clan Open Maw nonetheless manages to thrive.
They owe much of their success to the expert leadership of their Matriarch, Elaygn. The sultry huntress helps all members of her clan take down prey. Though she leaves the youth-training to Maevorha, Elaygn is the one who leads the hunting raids, shouts out formations, and glories in the thrill of the kill.
Fearful travelers who pass through the clan liken their skill and determination to ravenous wolves.
Still, while strength is a necessity in this climate, and hunting forms the backbone of their companionship, not all is blood and ice for Clan Open Maw.
The clan is divided into bleak secularists and those who worship the goddess of war. Their lively debates can be heard nightly at the tavern — the only edifice with even a splash of color on it. The pelts of the greatest trophies line the walls, and young dragons dream of the day they add their own accomplishment. What’s more, any patrons present after the doors close are obligated to stay the night. The tavern-owner refuses to let them out after a certain hour, fearing that they land in the claws of some perilous monster. Sometimes the revelry even breaks into brawls.
In terms of government, all defer to the Matriarch. But each dragon is deeply individualistic. On some level, they all know that their allegiance to Clan Open Maw is subject to change as the wind might.
When the moon finally slips away and the tavern grows quiet, the dragons emerge from their stone dens, ready to tackle a fresh day — praying it won’t be deadly." Everyone around you is staring with an open gape as the imperial walks out of the tavern never to be seen again
