Bone Affinity

Unlike his twin brother Aeneas, Accolon has an affinity for bone magic. He is a Necromancer, a dragon who has the power to summon the spirits of the dead or breathe life into rotting corpses and bend them to his will. Yet he rarely uses his skills to actually raise the dead but rather to put those poor souls back to rest. Others, however, still treat him with suspicion, fear or even disgust. It seems the knowledge of what he might be able to do, outweighs the deeds he actually has done. The disdain of his fellow dragons for his innate powers has made Accolon bitter. Sometimes, he is tempted to actually do all those terrible things dragons think he is doing. But then, it would be him he would pay the price, not them. For no magic, especially not such sinsiter one, is without a price. A dragon must have self-discipline and strength to master such dark talents for failure will have dire consequences for those around him as well as for himself. And Accolon is a powerful Necromancer.

When his brother suggested to leave their birth clan, Accolon knew Aeneas was doing this out of fear for him. His brother could feel the growing darkness and contempt in him, and he was afraid what it might do to him. When they left, Accolon felt a strange sense of relieve although he feared that nobody except his brother would ever accept him. He was surprised when he realized that at least their travel companion Apollo felt genuine affection for him. It gave him hope that eventually he would be judged by his deeds and not his abilities. Their travels led them far away from the Shifting Expanse, to the sunlit domain of the light dragons where they studied old scrolls filled with ancient knowledge. But none of them felt at home there so they eventually went on and travelled through the dark and boggy Tangled Woods to the arid deserts of Dragonhome. Here, on these ancient battlefields, Accolon felt a strange sense of belonging, but neither his brother nor Apollo felt comfortable there. It was a dangerous, barren land and so they decided to visit the lush forests of the Viridian Labyrinth next. Though no less dangerous, these green woods full of life seemed much more appealing than a bleak wasteland.

It was Apollo who discovered the then rather small Clan residing in the Forgotten Sanctuary which lay still in ruins. They had just started to establish a settlement and suffered a terrible setback because of some vicious Serthis Clan that had nearly wiped them out. Accolon felt that this place was old, and full of dark secrets. But true to its name, it was also a safe haven for dragons who would have been considered misfits everywhere else. They could make a difference here, help shape the community and re-built the ancient settlement. This place was full of potential. Accolon could see that his brother had already fallen in love with the derelict charm of the overgrown ruins. And somehow, he could understand it. The longer he wandered through the mysterious forests, explored decaying ruins and dark caves the more he got attached to this place that was so different from his birthland. The other dragons were suspicious of him at first, but after he had pledged an oath of allegiance to their Clan leaders, their behavior changed. They believed that no lies could be spoken in the shadows of the circle of Standing Stones which were the heart and center of the Forgotten Sanctuary. Indeed, he had felt a strong magical power while standing beside the withered stones. But it didn’t matter, because the words he had spoken that night had been true. This was his home now, the place where his family lived. He would rather die than betray them and no magical bonds would be necessary to bind him to his oath.

lightningv2.png Information
Name // Accolon

Role // Sorcerer / Necromancer
Accolon is a skilled and powerful Necromancer though he rarely raises the dead but rather puts them back to rest. After the Surging of the Elements, the dead of long forgotten battles have become strangely restless. Evil and foul spirits now roam the ancient battlefields and deep beneath the earth, the corpses of dragons who died a violent death begin to stir. Accolon patrols these dangerous grounds, always keeping a watchful eye on the graveyards and forcing the dead to stay dead. Powerful bans and spells are necessary to keep them beneath the earth, to prevent them from walking the earth again. He is often joined by his brother Aeneas, and sometimes also by Night Warriors. Accolon is relieved that at least the current residents of the Sanctuary burn their dead. It would be unsettling to report to Antafes or Amber that their fallen comrades have risen again.

Personality //
Accolon is self-disciplined and reclusive, the complete opposite of his outgoing brother Aeneas. He does not have many friends, but he fiercely protects the dragons or creatures who are close to him and he has a deep sense of responsibility. He takes his grim task to patrol the old graveyards very seriously, and is rarely seen in daylight anymore. Loyal and protective of his friends and family, he is unforgiving and relentless to those who want to harm anyone who is close to him.

Friends //
Accolon loves his twin brother dearly and he is also very close to his cousin Apollo. To him, Apollo is more like a second brother than a distant relative. Due to his duties guarding the graveyards, he also spends a lot of time with the Clan’s Night Warriors. They share his sense of responsibility and understand his sense of duty. They also don’t judge him by his abilities, he is a Necromancer but they see him using his powers to do good not evil.
Accolon has become close friends with Polemus, a dead dragon who was brought back to life by some spell gone terribly wrong. At first, Accolon’s interest was purely scientific, he had heard of this event but never come face to face with someone who was raised from the dead and yet somehow fully alive. His flesh is warm to the touch, he breathes and nobody controls his mind but Polemos himself. He can even father children. A fascinating subject. But there is a sadness and sense of loss in the Pearlcatcher, some dark secrets he cannot remember. Maybe Accolon saw himself in the lonely and outcast dragon, or felt sympathy for his cruel fate or maybe both. What began as a purely businesslike relationship slowly turned into true friendship that gives solace to both dragons.

Blood Affinity //
"Bone magic draws on the strength of the body, and is geared toward spells and enchantments that affect a dragon’s physical form. Thaumaturgy, magical augmentations, and necromancy are all forms of Bone magic. Dragons with an Affinity for Bone magic are typically resilient and self-disciplined, and have a knack for motivating the actions of others. Bone magic is strengthened by conviction; the more certain a caster is in the necessity of a spell, the stronger the spell will become. The use of a dragon’s bones, teeth, or scales will strengthen the effect of a Bone-aligned spell performed on that individual."
