The Hidden Caverns of Shade
The False God and The Obscured Emblem

Hidden within the Wispwillow grove is a deep cave system, surrounded by a dense forest containing the remains of an ancient, forgotten civilization. A thick darkness engulfs everything, meaning entering the area is difficult, and life harsh, but a select few have managed to make a living here, though they avoid the caves themselves. Despite this, constant noises echo from within...
And on a rare occasion, glimmers of dragons can be seen going in and out, under the cloak of magic and darkness.

Darkness is unlike other elements. It is not a presence: rather, it is an absence. The absence of light. It is everywhere, unless it is chased out. And even then, it lurks, waiting for its chance to return. Perhaps it could be said that its existence relies on something to contrast it: how can you know darkness if there is no light to compare it to? But to say such a thing does it no justice. It was there before light existed. It will be there when the final light is snuffed out.

That is not to say that darkness is malevolent. The dark represents the unknown. The obscured. Things we cannot see, cannot understand, cannot know. But there is also safety in secrecy. After all, there's a reason those running from danger will travel in the night. Where the light of day reveals all, betrays the secret and the hidden, the blanket of darkness becomes their hope, their salvation.

The Gem-Lined Forest
The Shard's Home

The main stretch of the forest, small but densely-packed with trees. It is not uninhabited, however, being home to a small group of Veilspun dragons, who take it upon themselves to watch over their home with diligence.

Many dark-thriving and nocturnal creatures make the forest their home, along with more... Unusual variants of flora and fauna, not seen anywhere else. They range from harmless to deadly, and great caution should be taken if they are approached.

Throughout the area, ruins of an old city can be found, split apart by time and the growth of foliage. Murals and writings can be found without, telling a grim tale of collapse and destruction- and of a mysterious force, strength akin to a deity.

It is not recommended to stray too far off of the sparse beaten paths, lest you risk getting lost... Or worse.

The Dimly Lit Paths
The Wanderer's Haven

The few paths winding through the forest. Dragon homes line them in small clusters, forming miniature communities. Dragons here are often outcasts, forced by circumstance.

Dim magic lanterns line the dirt roads, preventing total darkness from setting in, but barely cutting into the shadows of the surrounding treeline. Great care must be taken to maintain these lights, lest they go out, and be lost.

Creatures tend to avoid the paths, though on occasion, a stronger beast will become brave, and must be fought off. These are often much stronger than individuals of their own species, and residents must be prepared to fight at any time.

Over the years, signs have been placed along the maze of paths, to avoid those walking along them getting lost and potentially ambushed. But decay is quick, and they must be repaired or replaced often.

Though it may serve as a temporary refuge, take care that you do not spend too long in this place. It changes you. Makes you its own. And once it has sunk its claws into you... It will not let go.

The Endless Lake
The Eternal Depths

Darkness can come in many forms. And sometimes that is the form of an infinitely deep body of water, its lightless depths stretching like tendrils into the earth. Once a sprawling cavern system, it was overtaken by flooding thousands of years ago.

Home to countless deep-water creatures, the lake is not a place to swim carelessly. What few dragons live there have adapted over the years- both to the darkness, and to living underwater. And deep down lurks an ancient dragon, one that seldom surfaces.

And one might think that that was it. An ancient dragon, living in the depths of an overgrown cavern-lake. But things in this place are not so simple. There is always just a little bit more. The rabbit hole always goes just a little further, again and again, until the exit is nowhere in sight.

Because if you go deep enough, you reach a void. An impossibly large space, filled with water of crushing pressures, where no light can hope to reach- and nothing foolish enough to enter can hope to exit. A cold end. A cruel inevitability.

There is nothing of value to be gained here. There is nothing that is worth the risk. Turn back, before it is too late, and you are consumed by the darkness of the depths.

The Glow-Whisper Caves

The Glow-Whisper clan, led by the enigmatic fae dragon Rose, claims its primary goal is to learn the truths of the world they live within. Once under the Arcane, they suddenly moved their alliegances to the Shadowbinder, seemingly without provocation.

Despite its smaller number, their den bustles with frequent activity- no matter where you look, something will be happening, be it from the dragons themselves, or the other creatures that live within.

Some secrets are best kept hidden.
