STONEPICK MINE
The barren landscape stretched for miles. The dust-colored ground, rock piles, and mineral clusters dotted the plain in all directions, giving the vicinity a lonely, abandoned feeling. Once in a while a parched tree raised its thirsty branches up towards the sky as if begging for rain. There was absolutely no sign of civilization.
You continued plodding on, desperately looking to the horizon for a cave, a canyon, anything. But to no avail- the land remained as seemingly uninhabited as before.
"Ay!" A sharp voice cut through the silence like a knife. You whipped around swiftly, trying to locate the source of the sound. The source turned out to be an earthy-colored female Tundra decked out in mining gear, strolling calmly over to you. The sharp rocks beneath her feet seemed to have no effect on her- in fact, she didn't seem to notice them at all.
"The name's Skylark!" she said cheerfully. "Ya look lost. C'mon, I'll get ya to some folks who can help you."
Not even waiting for an answer, Skylark turned around and began plodding west. Hesitantly, you followed, knowing you had no choice but to trust her if you wanted to see something other than the Shattered Plain ever again.
HARRING'S HEARTH
Skylark finally reached a large cabin sitting at the foot of a cliff. She rapped on the door and it immediately swung open to reveal a grinning Guardian dragon. She wore pauldrons of pyrite as well as a handsome gorget on her neck.
"Morning, Skylark," the Guardian said cheerfully. "Oh, guests! Lovely! My name is Rhyo- short for Rhyolite, which I never go by. Come on in."
You gratefully followed Rhyo. The inside of the cabin was simple, but cozy. A fire roared in the corner, and there was a chocolate-colored sofa sitting on a gorgeous goat-skin carpet. A table in front of the sofa seemed to be made of-
"Yes dear, that's fine-quality quartz straight from the mine," Rhyo proclaimed proudly.
Portraits of earth-colored dragons were hanging on the walls and above the fireplace was a huge goat head.
"This isn't actually the mine, of course," Rhyo suddenly said. "This is Harring's Hearth. It's my cabin where miners come when their weekly shifts are over. Nice vacation for them, I bet. Now go along, Skylark is probably dying to show you the mine itself."
