Biography

Uh-oh, looks like this inquisitive Bogsneak wandered a little too far from his home lair (l#322053, TheDeathseer), and now he's off to see the world! If ever you feel the need to exalt, he'd really appreciate it if you could just return him to his home lair, or to the 'Dragons Off To See The World' thread, here. This is not necessary, but he would be very grateful!

Viridian Labyrinth
Wow, I got turned around! When I got on the airship, I thought it'd be a short trip to the Starfall Isles, but I guess I should have checked the itinerary, because they went south first, to the Ashfall Wastes, and then I fell asleep. When I woke up we were closer to the Behemoth than I'd ever seen before. So I got off at the next stop. Maybe if I'd stuck around longer we would have finished the circuit? But I kind of wanted to see what the stars look like so far from home.

The place I'm staying is right by the trunk of the Behemoth, which might cause some problems with visibility, but there's an inn, and the innkeeper told me they have some astronomers here. She also said they had another traveling astronomer who just left. I tried to explain about the difference between astronomy and astrology but I don't think she was really listening to me.

And sure enough, it turns out the astronomers here - a couple of fae and a skydancer - are snooty as heck, and they have their observatory up really high on the Behemoth's trunk, so getting up there was a nightmare. I tried a few times, but it's more trouble than it's worth. I'm out of here. Starfall Isles, here I come!

The Sunbeam Ruins
I headed south (I'd rather not go through the Tangled Woods, to be honest) and came across a Light clan that seemed nice enough. Though they don't seem to like Bogsneaks very much - I heard a Pearlcatcher say we're arrogant loners?! - I got shelter and some food.

Unfortunately, most dragons around here appear to be into moon magic and astrology rather than real science. Their single astronomer was friendly, but the things he told me about were nothing new. I'd rather talk to some real specialist. Seems like I need to continue my journey...

...Uh, there's something else I should probably mention. One of those moon mages took a... let's say, special interest in me. She and I grew quite close during my stay at the clan. But it's nothing serious. Certainly not enough to keep me from traveling further.

The Viridian Labyrinth
Taking this as a hint that I may be going the wrong direction, I decided to turn around. In hope that heading more west may give me more hope. Night grew faster than I had predicted, and thus, I've landed myself here. A quaint little area full of a healthy variety of other dragons.

Luckily, the lead over this lair allowed me to sleep in, telling me I can stay as long as I'd like. And honestly, a stay didn't sound so bad. As I found myself comfortable here, I begun to tell a few of their members my story and what has caused my wanderlust. Luckily, a couple of the dragons took strong interest in my tale. Cecil and his brother, Ragnarok. Cecil even wanted to offer to come with him, delighted to hear I pursued for the knowledge of the Arcane, and even told me about how he and his brother once originated from there. In his excitement, and the due to a friendship that sparked quickly, Cecil even offered me one of his belongings. An old, navy satchel to which he traveled here with. He told me to use it to collect and items I collect on my way, and I am ever thankful for this.

The long talk with the two brothers made it quite difficult to sleep, staying well into the midnight hour. Nevertheless, I was all the more eager to wake and continue my travels once I stocked back up.

The Ashfall Wastes
Desperate to make some progress on my journey, I opted for flying over the Tangled wood in hopes that I would be able to make it to the Scarred wasteland where I could find place to rest and then continue on my way towards the Observatory in the Starfall Isle. I was a sound idea in theory, but in practice... not so much. During my flight, I got caught in a jet stream which pulled me out over the Sea of a Thousand Currents. I was worried about getting caught in a storm, but I managed to avoid the worst of them. There was some rain and a few lightning strikes, but luckily I made it to land before anything substantial started.

I could tell by my surroundings that I had landed at the edge of the Ashfall Wastes. I hadn't planned on journeying through the Fire territory, but I needed to rest before flying again. My detour brought me across a small clan settled at the base of the Great Furnace. They were a clan of Tundras with the occasional Mirror, Gaoler, and a few of the recently rediscovered Banescales. They were probably the most welcoming clan I had come across so far. They were accommodating and treated me like one of their own, as if I was an old friend.

Within the clan, there was a Tundra couple who were both Astronomers and I was able to have many great conversations with them. Anthony and Zira were just as passionate and intrigued by the cosmos as I was. They showed me multiple locations that they had discovered where the ash and smoke from the volcano was thin enough, allowing view of the sky. They told me that their shared interest in the stars was what brought them together. They're love for each other was something that I hadn't encountered before but it was certainly nice to see. As strange as it sounds, it made me happy and perhaps a little jealous.

Depending on the time of the year, the volcano will be dormant enough that the sky could be viewed in full clarity. I was lucky to be around during one of these times and I will say, seeing the stars from this region gives a whole new perspective on the sky. It was strange, but the star seemed brighter here, which didn't make any sense to me given the environment, but I wasn't going to question it. I was just happy to be able to gaze at the stars at all.

When it came time for me to continue on, the clan bid me a fond farewell and gave me some supplies to get me through my journey. Before I left, Anthony and Zira brought me a gift. Two beautiful starry scarves. I couldn't thank them enough for such a lovely present. With that, I set off on my path, planning to head west though the Windswept Plateau and hopefully make it to the Starfall Isle. Here's to hoping that everything goes well.

The Scarred Wasteland
I managed to get so close to the Observatory, but of all the things to stop me it was the flight in the Scarred Wasteland! Turns out I wasn't quite ready for the airborne diseases, despite the extensive preperation I made, knowing I'd inevitably fly through the area to get to my end goal. I'm not sure what I got, but it left me unable to fly and I could barely keep my food down. I ended up in one of the quarantine zones I've heard about, but it wasn't like anything described. The grasses had a heartbeat, were a sickly red, yet as the pulsed around me, I never felt their heartbeat.

I eventually ran into the clan that inhabited the grasses, the massive Imperial guarding them acting as a beacon for me. I asked for shelter and care from the massive Imperial in exchange for whatever treasure I had. He took me to the leaders of the clan, two gaolers who go by Goblin and Hobgoblin. I stayed in the clan to recover with their blessing, and surprisingly Goblin also serves as a healer! Not every day you see a clan where leaders are more than just big figures. She treated me well, and it wasn't long before I was back on my feet and able to fly and eat.

If any dragons left me in awe while in this strange place, it would be Fiesaro and Turpentine. Imagine how lucky you must be to be able to woo a first generation coatl, who, from what I've seen, tend to be reserved as to who they choose to call theirs. They were truly a happy couple, and telling them of my love of astrology and my most recent visit to the Ashfall Waste sparked conversation on the world of science that I loved. Turpentine was even kind enough to display one of the dances he does with his CIF3, genuinely a sight to behold. The way he manipulates the volatile spray with magic makes your stomach turn, yet leaves you in awe.

When it finally came time for me to depart, I had found myself resilient to the diseases the lands threw at me and a memory like no other. While no gifts were given, I feel the experiences I had within the clan are far superior to any physical item I could have received.

The Tangled Wood
I was flying over the shadowy darkness of the Tangled Wood when suddenly I was struck on the head. I blacked out. When I came to, I was inside some sort of room with soft beds, and walls made of thick, gnarled brambles for surprisingly good ventilation. Penelope, a Snapper healer, greeted me. She told me the whole story: I was in the infirmary of the Cloakscreen Company, a newspaper publisher in the Shadow territory. One of their newspaper distributors,
Dolasir
, was dropping parachuting chests full of newspapers near clans who were subscribed to the paper, and I had been caught in the crossfire. It clocked me right on the head. Thankfully, the oaf came down to rescue me before I could hit the ground.

The newspaper dragons were nice enough to let me stay in temporary housing. They even let me tour their offices and see how everything worked. I met some of the correspondents on their way out -- they were very charismatic. The writers were jokey and creative. There were even some Arcane dragons who copied the text onto hundreds of loose paper leaves. What an incredible power!

While I appreciate that I was allowed to stay, I regret passing over the Tangled Wood. I lost several weeks of travel time trying to recover from the blow to my head. I had the feeling something bad would befall me if I came near Shadow, and it did! So I left as soon as I could, thanking everyone for their hospitality.

The Southern Icefield
This time I got really turned around! In my haste to make it to the Starfall Isles my course went too far south. One icy blast later and I'm stuck in this barren wasteland! All the snow and ice makes everything look the same and I'm loosing feeling in the tip of my tail and wings. I need to find somewhere to rest, and soon! Thankfully I came across an inn? In the middle of a cave system? It seems cozy enough and the dragons inside seem friendly.

I decided to ask for directions from a kindly looking imperial, Mitte. I explained my journey so far and my dreams of going to the Starfall isles to become an astronomer. She seemed to light up once I mentioned my love for astronomy and told me that her mate, Percival was an astronomer! Finally I might be able to learn something here!

Percival seemed nice enough. He explained his different tools and showed me some diagrams he'd drawn. He also introduced me to his pet, a living... telescope? He explained it was very good at spotting things he sometimes missed and told me it was an invaluable tool for any astronomer! He even had a spare which he gave me! Now all I needed was directions and I'd be all set. The innkeeper told me that I just needed to head north and I would be at the Starfall Isles. I may not have meant to end up here, but it seems to have turned out well! Now all I need to do is head north and I'll be at my destination!
SbzOqcA.png
Dragonhome
I think I got blown a bit past my destination. Looking over my maps, it should have been a simple fly northward in order to reach the Starfall Isles. However, a howling storm rose up and I was caught in its billows. When it finally dissipated, I was all the way in Dragonhome, a land that is somehow more barren than the Southern Icefield. Luckily, a young fae found me while searching for stars, and invited me to his clan in the Cairnstone Rest. There was an inn kept by a friendly snapper, and she welcomed me in. Her own son had become a traveler, so it seemed logical to open one.

Being stuck here for the time being, I decided to see what the stargazing was like here. Apparently, due to the small population and open terrain, the skies were full of stars, glittering in the blanket of night. While observing the sky, I noticed the young fae that I had encountered earlier watching me. He seemed curious, so I invited him over. Apparently, he wanted to become an astronomer, but most of the clan lacked the knowledge he pursued. I told him about some of the more basic aspects, and he keenly observed, writing in what looked to be a healer's reference that had had the original text bathed in white-out. His interest clear, I decided to stay for a bit, and I taught him what little I knew.

At some point, he came to a certain point at which I could not teach him anything more of use. He was sad to see me go, but I did need to continue on my way south, to the Starfall Isles. Perhaps one day, he will join me there.

Shifting Expanse

Just when I thought the Starfall Isles were in sight, I realized I was flying over desert and there were lots of wind storms and lightning. I almost got shot down by a bolt and landed in a territory of a Lightning Flight clan. A blue nocturne was there to greet me. The first thing he asked me was if I had a passport. When I showed him my passport, he saw I was a Dragon's off the see the World dragon, he was quick to show me to where I would be staying. "My name is Victor" said the nocturne. "Welcome to Alligator Clan" Unlike any of the clans I had visited on my journey, there was something familiar about this clan but I could not make it out. I followed Victor and we flew accross a huge castle which Victor explained to me that was the capitol of Alligator Clan and where most dragons of high rank lived. just to the north of the castle was an arch shape building with a huge lightning rod on top of it. "This is the Lightning Flight Embassy" explained Victor. "You will be staying in suite 17. We hope you enjoy your stay here." That was the last I saw of Victor.

In the Lightning Flight Embassy, I met many other travelers from other clans. Every dragon wore a standard of the flight of their home clan just like me. On the other side of the capitol, was a cave where a group of female mirrors lived. I heard that they supply the main food source of the clan. On the morning after my first night in Alligator Clan, I decided to check it out. Outside of the cave there were the symbols of every flight. On most of the symbols stood a female mirror, but there was not one on Nature, Arcane and light. "Hold your positions" cried Lightning "We have a visitor." The lightning mirror flew from her position and landed in front of me. She was a blue and gold mirror similar to the colors Victor was. "May I help you?" the mirror asked. I did not know what to say but I told her I was just touring the territory. "My name is Victoria and this is my pack, but I could give you the tour after I get off from work."

That evening Victoria came to meet me at the Lightning Flight Embassy. "You know you do not have to spend the night here, I can get you a room in the Capitol" Suggested Victoria. For some reason, this clan was treating me different like I was of importance of something, but all I wanted was to tour the capitol. Then I realized this is the longest I had been in any clan without meeting the leader. Victoria escorted me to the castle which they called the capitol. As I walked down the main hall there was a picture on the wall of every dragon who had ever lived in this clan and under their name was the title they held if any. Suddenly, I saw a picture of a dragon which I recognized from somewhere. It was a skydancer. Wait! That's Chipper. Then it hit me. This must be the clan Chipper grew up in. Then I remembered this clan had their own University of Flight. I wonder what kind of programs they have. Never less, I was about to meet the Alligator Clan leader and if I am not mistaking this clan's leader is a female mirror named Taylor. As I made my way to the royal dinner, I saw a black scaled female guardian dressed in fine green silk and gold. "Greetings" said the guardian. "I am HeavenLee, Alpha leader of Alligator Clan" Okay, I was wrong. Taylor is not leader. "You are the first visitor I have had from Wind Flight Clan since I became leader and I know my mother became really good friends with Neptune when she was leader. But please make your self at home and if there is anything we can do we are here." Now I realized this was one of Wind Flight Clan's ally clans. The name Neptune for some reason did not ring a bell for me. My guess was he was one of the five leaders when Taylor was leader of Alligator Clan. "HeavenLee, your highness, I would like to enroll in the University of Flight" The leader gave me a smile. "Sure but do you plan to stay here long enough? Your passport might require a renewal before the end of your first semester." "I want to be an astronomer. Do they have any astronomer classes?" I asked " Of course. I will get you enrolled right away.

My passport lasted long enough for me to complete one semester. I took a class called Star gazing. At first I thought it was going to teach about other worlds where intelligent life lives, but unfortunately, there are none we know of . What I did learn was the names of many stars in the sky and how to find them. I knew that this class would come in handy when I leave because I could now navigate much better without getting lost like I did when I ended up on the other side of the world. However, Alligator Clan was so much into technology. There was one invention which they called the box which I was told I could go anywhere any time in a blink, but I did not have time to take that class. My passport was about to expire and my time to leave was coming. On my last day in Alligator Clan, I was lucky enough to meet Taylor, the former leader of Alligator Clan. I found out that Taylor was co leader along with her husband Steven, A blue guardian and most of all, HeavenLee was Steven and Taylor's daughter. As I took off for my final flight out Taylor's last words were "Tell Neptune hello for me"
The Tangled Wood

Well, it appears as though I got a bit turned around. Not sure how, but I did. I wound up straight back in the Tangled Wood again. I'm not saying I was suffering from fatigue and crash landed in a hidden clan's hibernation cave. But I probably was.

Regardless, the dragons - who refer to themselves as the Forgotten Clan - were very welcoming. Apparently they are no strangers to traveling dragons, and house two retired travelers of their own. One was named Gru (strange fellow, kept a frog on his head the whole time he was talking to me) and Kovu, who had experienced a rather tough time during his adventures. His mate had been lost in a storm, so I heard. I felt bad for him, but he appeared to be doing well.

I stayed for a while here. I mean, they had their own band! Treestar and the Fantastic Familiars. Wonderful entertainment, wonderful snacks too. It was nice getting to know everyone, although I noticed a distinct lack of astronomers within their crew. But who would have guessed, they too, had a dragon named Zira living with them! This Zira was a scientist though, but we had some great conversations about astronomy regardless. I think she might be interested in taking up astronomy full time!

But then I saw her - standing in the pale moonlight. Her wings shimmering against the stars, her sapphire tail feathers flowing in the wind... Alright, I could probably put a bit more effort into describing her beauty, but you get the gist. Coral. Even her name sounds elegant. We had a clutch of eggs together, with four beautiful offspring. I wanted so desperately to stay longer, but alas, none of these dragons are astronomers, and thusly cannot assist me with my dream. I'll keep moving onward!
