Biography
Everything was dark and cold, frigidly cold. The air felt heavy and dry; I could not move a muscle. I couldn't remember where was I, what happened, or most importantly, who am I? Then in a blink of an eye a bright light shone, and blinded me. When I tried to shake it off, I saw her. A dark creature... no, I knew what she was; a Guardian dragon. She stood over me as she tried to converse with me yet all I heard is mumbling. I was surprised when I could move my arm, my wings, and my tail; to take in much air into my nostrils, to feel the area around me. I saw she was excited as she tried to introduce herself. Her name was Umbra, and she was a witch. She told me she found me, or what was left of me, in the Tundra, and that her experiment with something she brought back from the forest made me come back to life. I tried to speak but no words can come out, only rasps of air. And that's when I realized that my body was not like hers, no flesh nor bones, just twisted wood and vines. "What was left of me...", I recalled. I guess I was only a carcass when she found me. There's only dry branches with vines hanging of where my wings once were. It was like there was a tree that grew along where my body parts were. I did not have lungs, but I could breathe and smell the air, however with no throat, there was nothing I can use to speak. I tried to use gestures to communicate with her, to tell her that I could not recall who I was. Umbra just nodded and smiled, she told me that I should become her apprentice. To learn what was lost from me, and maybe to recall who I was before my unfortunate demise. She named me 'Sequoia', like the giant redwood tree she admires. She taught me the ways of the Grove, how to live in the dark forest, what is dangerous and what is not. She also taught me a bit of her alchemical studies, but I could not grasp the concept of it. One day, as we were walking in the forest, I found a piece of long stick with a string attached to it. It felt nostalgic to me. Umbra explained that a bow was used as a weapon, to kill something from a distance. She showed me how it works and when I tried it, i immediately shot a rabbit that was running away from us. It was then that we both realized, my memories might be gone, but my muscle remembers the training it went through before. After that day, Umbra gave me a job; to hunt for provisions and materials that she needs for her studies. A job I am proficient in, better than an apprentice who could not even learn to read or chant a spell. With a new crafted bow and arrows imbued with her magic, I prowl in the Wispwillow Grove where she and I now reside. |
