❧ CARINA Analytical | Bold | Daring | Charismatic Carina is a budding pirate who uses her extensive network of contacts among her extended family to find greedy merchant caravans and vessels. She has yet to put together a crew of her own, but is one day hoping to lead other dragons to participate in her heists. Many dragons express surprise that a dragon of her background has turned to piracy, but she is always ready with a quick rejoinder about rectifying the injustices of dragon capitalism. Pirates have a role to play, and after all, her own grandfather was a pirate so she's carrying on the family tradition no matter how you slice it. More of a strategist than an out-and-out combatant, Carina will hang back from a battle until she has determined the best plan of attack. She will then leap into the fray herself. She specializes in spells that weaken and disable enemies and strengthen her fellow fighters, but don't mistake her preference for a support role for cowardice! Like Aten and Redhand, Carina is a member of the Night Warrior family and is bent on sharpening her combat skills like others in her line. She is eager to achieve the level of prowess shared by her two half-sisters, Dante and Adamantine. Most important to her is growing her leadership skills so that she can prepare herself to lead her own pirate crew one day. If she can reconcile Aten's haughtiness with Redhand's sulky independence, she can lead anyone. |

When she and her teammates arrived at the tournament grounds, the first thing Carina wanted to do was lay down and rest her weary wings. Firmly, she resisted the urge. There was work to be done.
Other teams had already arrived - not the entire complement of the tournament's dragons, but enough to make things interesting. She would have to take an opportunity later this evening to scope out their fellow competitors. Some of them would undoubtedly be opposed to her presence; she was a rival to them for the time being, after all, and it would not be entirely remiss of them to interpret her behavior as spying.
She felt a prickle of awareness ruffle her feathers, and became suddenly aware of being watched.
Carina turned around slowly - it wouldn't do to seem nervous here - only to see that it was her teammate Redhand who was approaching. "Carina," said the Imperial in an undertone. "One of the fighting teams didn't bring any food with them. Is it okay if I give them some of ours?"
Carina considered the question for a second, doing some mental math in her head. They had brought sufficient resources to see them through the tournament, but barely. However, they would soon be hitting the field, and even though the battles would be long and grueling, there would be plenty of time to gather resources. "You certainly can," she said with a nod. "But make sure to take equal portions of meat, fish, and seafood. Aten may claim to need little, but none of us should go hungry during the tournament."
Redhand's eyes widened. "I hadn't thought of that. I'll make sure there's plenty of meat left over. Thanks!" he said before vanishing in the direction of their supplies.
Carina smiled a bit at Redhand's kindheartedness. In spite of the young Imperial's aloof attitude, he was a bleeding-heart at the core, always ready to help others in need. She hoped that he found what he was looking for during this tournament. Privately, she resolved to check up on the outcome of Redhand's interaction with the other team of dragons. It was unlikely that Redhand would agree to accompany her as part of her crew following this tournament; he was too naive, and too trusting of authority to readily take to a venture like piracy. But perhaps his sentimentality would help win her future allies even as Redhand won himself friends.
Breaking away from that train of thought, she looked down at the ground beneath her, where the third member of their party was busily constructing his shelter. She frowned to herself. Aten was going to be... difficult. Redhand had accepted her leadership without question, but the black Bogsneak was aloof and independent, and seemed determined to stay that way. He'd spoken little on the way to the campgrounds, and seemed unsettled by the calm atmosphere of camp. He was likely spoiling for action - untested and untried, Aten, she knew, had postponed the beginning of his training specifically in preparation for this day. He could have begun his training as a Night Warrior before Carina had even been born. Instead he'd chosen to delay, in hopes of winning glory for himself - and he'd been willing to follow even an untried leader like herself in order to do so, even if he didn't seem to have much faith in her judgment so far.
At the recollection, Carina found that she was feeling more determined than ever. She had come this far, and now that the tournament was about to begin, she was ready - to prove herself as a leader, to earn the trust and respect of her fellow Night Warriors, and to gain allies where she could.
This was, after all, her maiden voyage.
